Nice tip ( pun intended) about letting the pressure out of the line when switching from spray to prime and prime to spray . As a X5 user when I first got started and could only afford the x5 i went through 2 of them before I purchased a 595 . But the day I did not let the pressure out of the line first and just flipped it was the day it messed up and would no longer stop priming when I’d flip back to spray . Seen it happen to 2 other guys who used x5’s the same day they flipped it without relieving the pressure . You should do it to that one and see if it survives . I’d bet the farm it does not

It is a rule of spraying for ANY rig to take the pressure off the line before switching. Every rig will blow out the prime spray valve when you dont remove the pressure. None of them will last.

@@Mikefngarage agreed …. It’s crazy though I see guys flip that thing back and forth all the time though, with 2,000 + psi in the line . I seen one guy who was pretty experienced squeeze the trigger first and while holding it down flips in and out of prime without turning it off . Wonder if that’s still bad

@@New-Breed-Drywall-And-Paint yea all that is bad. always no pressure rig off then flip. prime spray valve will last almost forever. Most people never read the manual. I did it too. but my buddy told me never do that. then I stopped and never changed another valve.

My first rig I bought for myself was the Krause and Becker from Harbor freight and it was like $240 plus I had a 20% off coupon, that thing made me thousands of dollars before it stopped working. I did throw the gun and hose away and upgraded it to Graco hose and gun though. I have a Titan Xi 345 now I picked up for $50 because the guy couldn't figure out was wrong with it. Shit I fixed it up in a day and now she's my money maker .

should be pretty easy. I painted cars before I ever pained a house. It is different as you dont blow off of stuff like you do on a car. Your more worried about where the overspray is going than the finish. On a car your worried about finish more than anything else. On a house finish is usually not an issue but where the paint goes is.

Flat tip is only way to go IMO. I’ve been spraying industrial for 6 years. Reverse tip is garbage and tried to tell lots of older guys I paint with that. Flat tip leaves a better finish and no plug up unless you don’t know how to mix a thin paint. I spray with conventional pot spray and airless but when spraying airless. Flat tip all the way

Mike, what size tip would you recommend fot this unit for applying stain? After watching your videos on this vevor spryer, I'm going to give it a shot on my deck and fence. Going to use oil base stain. Any tips or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks for you videos, they are very educational.

yea this rig would be great for that. If your using water based alkyd emulsion stain you can use any rig. But straight oil you dont want to use your expensive water based rig for that. Most of the stuff at home depot is water based as far as I know. or water cleanup. great for fences. But oil stain is Better IMO. be sure to clean up with the recommended cleaner for that stuff you are using. Might be Mineral spirits. if your not in CA.in ca that is non existent.

I work for a HO in lieu of rent otherwise i would be in another state. Texas maybe. Idk. This state is falling apart. It is not friendly at all to business owners and costs a fortune to buy a home. Not to mention property taxes, if you are thinking about buying a house here forget about it. The HO i stay with paid $35k for this house in the late 60s today with the additions he's done its easily over 2mil my old house across the street sold for 500k just ten years ago. Now it's worth 1.3 rent is out of the question a one bedroom hovel a walk in closet basically would fetch $1500 and up. Not exaggerating. And the economy sucks sure there are lots of "jobs" to apply for you have to apply to over 100 easily to get one or maybe two responses. I decided to take up painting seems like painters are hard to come by but what sucks is people only paint when they want to sell. Lot of homes in my area are sitting on 15+ year old paint. Our roads are fked up potholes you would not believe. If this is the best Gavin Newsom can do he would be a terrible president but I'll reserve judgement as he may not be to blame. This state is 20 years away from falling behind Mexico no joke. All the nice shiny stuff that made the state look great all the tech money js gone. I live in what was silicon Valley. Sad sight to see.

@@Mike-qo4kp texas isn't far behind, it's a race to the bottom here with all the illegal immigrants driving labor into the ground for the past 30 years. Housing used to be decently priced here now its far beyond what anyone can afford. I thank God every day my dad was smart and built his house in the 80s literally by himself. He passed away, I had to fight the state for it and luckily came out on top. Its a scary world we live in. Hang in there.

I know exactly who you're referencing with the 4' extension wands on everything, he lives in Idaho maybe its to make up for his lack of height, i dont know. He is literally a walking talking salesman on steroids. Great to have a sponsor but damn son are you here to teach how to paint and make a little cash or sell me everything on Amazon. Your videos deserve way more attention, maybe if you start selling every reversa tip on Amazon the YT algorithm gods will reward you with the views you deserve. 😂 Question for you, what sheens do you prefer for wood facia and garage doors and trims. I don't hear painters talk much about sheens Besides flat paint for stucco. Im in Vegas and its becoming a trend for satin on stucco repaints. And literally everything here is stucco. Thanks for the videos Mike 👍

  • @mikethepainter

flat and satin last just the same amount of time. Satin will do some sealing to the surface so if the wood cracks (like it does in the desert.) those heavy ocassional rains will get water behind the painted surface. Which causes peeling. so I would use flat. because it does breath a little. and allow the water to get released. I usually use flat on rough sawn wood and stucco. satin or semi on smooth wood.....or interior doors. Rarely ever put sheens on wood exteriors anymore. Not many houses with smooth wood.
