About Rick and Morty:
Rick and Morty is Adult Swim's most scientifically accurate animated comedy. Created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, it catalogues the bizarre misadventures of a bored scientific genius/drunkard and his socially awkward grandson, Morty. Their exploits tend to have unintended consequences for Morty's dysfunctional family, especially his unfailingly mediocre father, Jerry. Watch Rick and Morty battle everything from interdimensional customs agents to Cronenberg monsters now, only at AdultSwim.com.

+Jason Long They dont compare people from the same jobs. They compare a woman's average salary (across every career/job) with a man's average salary (again across every career/job); and only look at yearly income. In today's society, it's still expected for the men to be the primary earners. As such, they put in far more hours (sacrificing friends and sometimes family) so they can make more money, and ensure their wife and children have food/housing/savings for college.

+TheDarthJesus fun fact did you know that thing 'society' you talk about and how it expects more from men than women? that is true and it's literally because of the patriarchy ideology, which is subtlety widely accepted by most of the population thus this feeling that men should sustain the family, putting pressure on them. this is why men also need feminism and please, please understand that this word doesn't mean man hate, if any woman made you feel that way she's not a real feminist.

The percentage seems to fluctuate largely due to racial demographics which varies study to study.

If you want research on this, the Department of Labor did a study on 50 or so research papers: goo.gl/JgrYxZ Although I'd recommend checking "The gender wage gap uses bogus statistics | FACTUAL FEMINIST" for context. On a more pragmatic level, why don't businesses only hire women if they can legally pay them 77% of what they would pay men?
