Airfix new 1/48 Gannet (with a few mod's)
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Hope you like the overall view of the build. With a few mods to the Airfix kit, it opens up a few more colourful Gannets.
I want to thank all of my subscribers and people who support this channel; hope you all have a nice break wherever you live in the world.

I may be slightly sad but it makes my day whenever you post a new build. You have a unique style, which is a joy to watch/listen to and the builds are always brilliant. Happy Christmas Greg😉

"It's only a plastic kit"! 🤣 I am going to remember that Greg every time I get stuck! Have a good break and, as usual, thanks for sharing another great build

Some build for speed (accuracy be damned) some build for accuracy (see scale model) and most try to stray somewhere in-between, reserving the right to chicken out if it's all starting to look a bit ugly. It seems like all are accepted schools of thought...

One cant possibly hear the terms "sleek" or "aerodynamic"without immediately thinking of the Gannet 😁❤
The Gannet is an absolute beast. They have one at Duxford. It looks as if you fired anything at it, it would just bounce off.
For me, the best build I’ve seen of the Gannet so far. Absolutely fantastic Greg.
Simply amazing! Surviving nearly 5 decades…still have my “unassembled” Frog Gannet, big THANKS to Airfix! And to You! Blessings & enjoy the holidays!

As usual - fabulous build! Love the old Gannets. I was serving in the RAN when we changed from Gannets to Grumman Trackers, & Sea Venoms to Skyhawks. Was always amazed by how big the Gannets were. Love your videos - always lots of food for thought, excellent commentary, & great results!
Amazing-hardly any plastic surgery, save the therapeutic minimum in building up that fairing, hollowing out a bulkhead, and cutting some styrene boxes for the interior. Guess even you need a break from the major mods now and again. Great work as usual, with your usual quirky, entertaining approach, always a delight to behold. Wonder how Airfix got those details so wrong, especially since they've been conscientious to lift their game recently.

They are human beings with a schedule to meet I guess. I still get a little cross with the Mosquito B. XVI kit where they could have admitted a whoopsie and issued a free 'put it right' sprue, or again the Vulcan Blackbuck whoopsie. Maybe not a case of 'so wrong' as these are details, but they can go from silver to gold with very little effort I hope. All I'm asking is £25K a year and working from home ;-)
Une fois de plus, vous avez réalisé une merveille. Vous êtes définitivement le meilleur !

Most enjoyable as ever. I have an article from Aeroplane magazine, which has a pretty good cutaway of the fuselage, showing that the main fuel tank was immediatelybehind the second seat. i waited for your take on the beast, as everyone else goes box standard. Thanks ag
I'm always amazed at your scratchbuilding skills.
Another amazing build Greg. If you were ever in charge of a wooden spoon no doubt you would convert it into a wooden spoon mk IV and much improve it.

They have one of these birds at the Pima Museum in Arizona I looked at. One strange looking aircraft, I like it. Your model is super nice, and great video performance too.
Trust you to take an already excellent kit and raise it to another level. You're an inspiration even if I don't have the skills to reach that level.

For your information and maybe the benefit of more model makers I spent most of my Navy career working on 849 squadron and flights the "red" paint was known as dayglo red great build by the way
Enjoy your break Greg. As a child of the 60s I shudder to think of the disasters (and fingers) I glued together in a mad rush just to see the finished article. Your work is an art form. Have you stopped doing your trademark introductory hippy wave permanently? Hope not. Merry Christmas old son, and I look forward to a resumption of play in the New Year.

Excellent. Excellent. Excellent. Personally, I find this Aircraft to be the ugly sister of the Air Services era. And yet, somehow, she makes for a beautiful display model. Maybe the real thing transforms into a charming curio when miniaturized? Who knows, it's probably just me. Waffle over. Well done Greg, she looks grand. Always a pleasure taking the time out to sit, relax and take in your vids. Bliss.

Last year I went to the Yorkshire Aircraft Museum where they have ASW version with the radar bulge under the front fuselage. If an ugly aircraft could be made any uglier then that version is it. Great build Greg as usual. I always look forward to your builds so enjoy your break and have wonderful new year.

Very good collection of aircraft including a Dassault Mirage IV which I've not seen in the flesh before. Up close it's a bit of an elegant beast. Well worth a visit.
Its a bloody ugly thing and not for me but as always you've smashed it! Enjoy your Christmas break and thanks for the builds, looking forward to more in 2024.

Hi Greg, I agree with the other comments, I too get excited when you put a build up. Only you could have turned the new kit into a trainer and pulled it off so well, loved it and your sense of humour. It’s easy to get obsessed over trivial things and then you have to remind yourself it’s just a hobby, yeh, who am I kidding 😀😀 Merry Christmas and Happy New year Greg. Jason 🇬🇧

Hi Greg, great build, love the tip about mixing a little white into satin varnish to dull the silver down, good rendition of high speed silver, ill have to try it. Compliments of the season to you.
Fantastic build. And a massive thank you for not ruining the commentary with the obligatory shitty music other modellers seem to think is necessary.
really awesome new model with some great engineering behind it
Absolutely beautiful build of a plane that - lets face it - fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.
I echo Stevesmart’s sentiment above! Fantastic build, not that familiar with the Gannet but after watching this it’s prompted me to do some research. Hope you have a Merry Christmas and relaxing break Greg. Can’t wait to see what 2024 holds for your channel, all the best sir!

Lovely looking aircraft to build. Great job.
I picked up my new Gannet a few days ago and thought wow. Airfix has arrived. I loved your build and it inspired me to pick up one myself
I enjoy your laid back nature in your video builds. Zen like calm.
FANTASTIC work 😃👍 As usual! Thank you for another video 🙂
Love your style and commentary, Greg, I for one wish you would divide your builds into multiple videos with deeper dives into your techniques., that was over much too quickly. The yellow wash on the gear and bomb bays was brilliant, they look amazing. Thanks for the Shackleton reference, watching that next! Merry Christmas!

What a gorgeous Gannet. Love the folded wings.
Great job, looks fantastic.
A great build. Airfix has done a fantastic job with the detail and fit of the parts. One of my other subscription channels is doing a double build of this kit one with wings straight, canopy's closed and crew added the other like your build with the wings folded. I was also happy to see you got enough weight into the model so it wouldn't be a tail sitter. Have a merry Christmas and a safe and happy New year.

Great job Greg , I really enjoy your builds and commentary. So unique, have great Xmas and hope to see you next year .
Dental alginate impression material is unstable. It has a water content that dries out if not kept sealed in say, a plastic bag. When we take an impression out of the mouth it needs to be kept sealed in a plastic bag (after disinfection) and the plaster impression cast from it ASAP. Failure to do so results in distortions. Alginate also may struggle to flow over plastic parts; the mouth is wet; helps the material flow over detail. Silicone impression materials much better for this application. Once again; superb display of your talents at creating a museum-grade model. The paint work is just gorgeous. Very enjoyable as usual! Looking forwards to further Greg’s models in 2024!

Thank you! I knew is was a waste a time in the back of my head. But I was going for a quick fix, never take short cuts 😂
@sullivanrachael

@@GregsModels- I guess a better quick fix would have been a silicone impression with a fast setting material poured in. I have duplicated kit and model parts before using dental impression silicone and our temporary crown and bridge material, which is a hard, tooth coloured fast setting 2 part mix acrylic. It’s not cheaply available in the modellers world but if you have access to the dental world it’s there. I lost a wheel from a 1/24th scale kit and made another plus other small bits with this technique.
Wow, this came out beautiful, Greg. Thoroughly enjoyed your video presentation, as always.
You are amazing master modeller... stunning build my friend! Have a nice holidays... and a happy New Year too...Will see you back on january!

Another masterclass Greg! I can imagine that if it had been one of those American kits from the 50s/60s there would have been gears to make the props counter rotate when you turned them.

That's a lovely looking build. I would have to make it with folded wings but they do cover up a lot of the model. I am either going to have to buy two kits or get really creative and see if I can make the wings actually fold with some metal hinges and sliding bits. Ok it won't be scale hinges but as long as they function and don't look too ridiculous I would be happy.
One of your finest builds! Hope we get an AEW.3 at some point.
Another excellent build Greg, not that I'm jealous, he says through gritted teeth. Balance was just right, well done. Have a good Christmas, and look forward to your next build in the New Year.

Seventy grams is a lot of weight. Airfix should have done what Tamiya did with their P-38 kit and provide a cast white metal cockpit and nose wheel bay. There are going to be a lot of tail sitters otherwise. Great work, Greg.

It's sat in the corner looking at me; I've got major house renoavtions and working away due starting Jan 2024 so guess it might be this time next year before it gets built. Bookmarked this for reference as your videos are always worth a watch. Nb - skipped to your use of making your own washes, I do the same, and no I don't do it everywhere and anywhere either, and yes using darker shaed of the right colour instead of a generic dark wash does make a noticeable difference to me. Cheers and enjoy that break sir!
Great work! I think those trainers schemes are the way to go.
