In 2017 I quit my job, bought a one way ticket on AirAsia from Auckland to Kuala Lumpur, and travelled for months on end with no major goal - I had seen almost every country and island south of China, and east of Iran and was standing in KLIA2 with no plan at all. I went to the sales desk and asked what the next flight out of KUL was that I could make - I paid for a ticket to Kaohsiung (luckily NZ residents have 90 day visa waiver!) and had the best three weeks discovering the treasures of Taiwan - strangely I'd never really considered Taiwan as a travel option but WOW there is so much to do, see and eat in Taiwan... Highly recommend to anyone who is considering it!
