    a tip for the air puff test is to plug your ears with your fingers to reduce the sound of the machine so you don't anticipate the puff

    Ophthalmologist said to me "Don't blink". Air blasted in my eye and, of course, I blinked. It is physiological reflex after all. He was getting mad because I couldn't keep my eye lids open. After several attempts that he decided to measure pressure using tono-pen. I wonder what is the problem? Equipment, me, ophthalmologist?

    how does an optometrist measure an eye's prescription? is it the eye measuring tool that the person use before they see the OD?

    You must be referring to the autorefractor! Am I right?

  • @edwardtrickett6064

    @edwardtrickett6064

    3 жыл бұрын

    An autorefractor measures refractive errors by measuring how light enters our eyes and being able to adjust accordingly so that an image is displayed correctly This gives a good baseline for optometrists to work from The optometrist also looks at: The retina itself, to check for overall condition and for potential issues such diabetes, high blood pressure, glaucoma and macular degeneration (plus many more) The optometrist then puts on the really fashionable glasses (called a phoropter or refractor) this can also be a machine with the necessary lenses in it, we wear or see through the phropter so that corrective lenses can be used to correct for near and far sightedness as necessary as our eyesight is tested An optometrist also uses tests for astigmatism, this is where the shape of cornea and/or lens is not ideal for light to focus correctly in the eye, this results in blurred and distorted vision and this is corrected as needed by adjusting on an axis between 0 to 180 which indicates how a lens needs to be shaped to correct any astigmatism On a prescription you will see numbers and words that mean nothing to us, but to an optometrist it gives them all the information they need about the corrective lenses needed for your eyesight On a prescription you will see the following information Spherical indicates whether you are nearsighted or farsighted. A plus sign indicates you are farsighted, a minus sign indicates you are nearsighted. The higher the number, the stronger your prescription. Cylinder measures what degree of astigmatism you have, or how flat or irregular the shape of your cornea is. The more your eye looks like an American football (instead of a basketball), the more astigmatism you have. Axis is measured in degrees, and refers to where on the cornea the astigmatism is located. Axis numbers go from 0 to 180. If you think of the eye as a map hanging on a wall, the 90 degree axis or line, runs up and down (or north to south) on the eye. The 180 degree line runs across the eye, east to west. Regular eye examination is recommended, typically once a year It is not about being coerced into buy a new pair of glasses, you may not even require a new prescription Your glasses can be assessed for fit and repaired if needed Your eyes also tell a lot about overall health and could well be a means of saving your life, an optometrist may diagnose or point towards issues well before any symptoms actually occur They are very highly trained and skilled individuals If you haven't been to see an optometrist in the last few years.... PLEASE go and see one without delay It could save your eyesight or even your life

    My optometrist told me today that the front part of my I watch I’m gathering must be the cornea, is narrow? He wanted to do an eye pressure test by hand and not with the”puff machine” I was scared and opted out 😑 but I wanna know how else it would be done

    Thinner corneas can make the pressure measurements fluctuate, it’s best to have it measured using a probe which is what I assume the optometrist was referring to

    Hi, I have had this puffer test over a week ago and my vision is now blurred and reading is difficult, I went back to my ophthalmologist who said nothing to do with her or the test,or gave me a reason for this, can you tell me is the air pressure of the puffer adjustable ? The full eyesight test was good, and no changes were needed but the day after I started to have the problem.

    There is no connection to air puff and vision, it's a initial test to rule out glaucoma disorder,,, if u face blurred vision for near then it's because after age 40 95% peoples eye becomes presbyopic that's all

    Now when I go to the eye doctor they test me by putting eyedrops in and shining some kinda light in my eye ( I’m not sure how that compares to the puff test ) but I remember going to they eye doctor as a kid and I HATED that eye puff test. They had me look at picture usually at a balloon and I would just be staring at it and no warning puff of hair . I think I just hated having a surprise air in my eye

    I really dislike the puff test, my last couple optometrists have used the icare and the other pokey in the eye with anesthetic one and it was wayyyy more pleasant. And I’ve had the icare one without anesthetic and it feels like nothing worse than an eyelash.

    Why are the eye test done in low light? I cannot see well in low light, or at night. I asked why they do this and was told that it is more comfortable in low light. Yet if the light was normal then I could read the eye charts.
