I am a biological safety officer and I've been looking for a comprehensive, quality video that showcases the effectiveness of BSCs. This video is beautiful. Thank you, and well done.

I don't understand 1 thing.... If there's a risk of any kind of contamination and safety is involved why the cabinet is not fully closed? Wouldn't be more logical, safe and easy to have 2 separate rooms? One operative fully closed and uncontaminated and one to introduce objects in totally safe without incurring in similar risks we saw in the video? Thanks.

Hello. I want to ask something. Our BSC keeps alarming. The airflow is not steady. What should we do?

@@JohnDoe-ml1ui4 years later lol but, the thing is that there are different types of these enclosures depending on the type of substances you're working with, like chemical or biological and if what you need is mostly protecting the substances from contamination or crosscontamination, or if you need to protect the substance and the personal manipulating it. The type of enclosure you're talking about is the type you would be using for handling a dangerous virus that can be transmitted easily, the enclosure will have HEPA filters on the intake and outage of the air which will go to the air outside, not where the personal is and they will have very strict protocols, but to handle, drugs, chemicals and most of the bacteria, cells, enzymes, etc that you work with in most labs you don't need that kind of protection these types of enclosures are more convenient since they allow for an easier way of working keeping a safe environment for the samples and the personal.

@@JohnDoe-ml1ui Those are called pharmaceutical isolators and the basic ones cost 50x the price of a good BSC. (Very basic isolator is about 0.5mil €/$)

It looks like the air is flowing down but if you imagine it getting sucked up, that also works 🤔 how do you scientifically tell the difference ? I wondered about this because dust particles always seem to flow up. Also it’s crazy how much the air flows look like streams of water 😯 Thanks for this video.
