In this video i'll be showing you how to use an arduino to control an old analog air core gauge motor. These things are cool when you get them working!

Thank you, I’ve been looking ages for this

You are only providing half wave. Also, since you are not reversing polarity, according to your diagram at 4:17 you are alway above 0 (ground), so you don't even need an h-bridge. I suggest reading the wikipedia page on air core gauges.

I have these motors in a gauge cluster. Would you be interested in taking a stab at solving a mystery about what is wrong with the speedometer? It registers say 60 when the actual speed is 30 and 100 at 60 etc. I have more info if your up to the challenge. Others are stumped. Thanks

Check if increasing the PWM frequency helps (that is, if you are dealing with a sim-rig :P ). The default is around 490 Hz on some pins, and 392 on others. I am using a Kienzle 1318-27 speedometer and it uses the tone(); function so it is different, but some of the smaller gauges in my sim-rig respond much more accurate with higher PWM frequencies than with low ones (along with not "singing" as loudly as well :P ).
