My company recently did a test of various substances for rust prevention and they found that while gun oil is the best for rust-prevention, the difference between various "anti-rust" oils is really minor compared to the difference that coating them at all makes.

@@wranglerstar don't worry, i'll keep your secret safe! but on a more serious note, i do love this set of videos. its a nice little mix of things and its interesting to watch though i would like to see a before and after of those rusty tools because i know that the evaporust or whatever its called is some pretty fantastic stuff. Hand tool rescue uses gallons of it and the things that come out of it vs the things that go in it? he might as well just go down to the shops and buy new parts as you can't tell the difference! For long term storage of tools, it's a bit expensive and i might be going a bit over the top but i use Renaissance wax. It's super gentle and was actually invented by the British museum and you can use it on furniture, leather, metals, ivory, you name it. it just leaves a very nice coat of protection on the tools which isnt all greasy, might be a good idea for jacks future tools that you are putting together.

I as many others have also commented - LOVE the side humor with the USPS Tote - all the way to the end with the stamps of all people who just simple can not resist to getting into someone else's business! Take care in throwing the first stone until your without sin yourself first! And, thank you for not just throwing out those tubs - worked for the post office and remember my supervisor tossing out bins when they were starting to wear out, but they are corrugated plastic and had many-many more years of life! Repurposing them as you have saves them (at least for a longer time) from the land fill - which you should do a video on the alarming rate at which land fills are filling up in America - even in rural areas, such as yourself, repurposing, and eliminating waste to the land fill should be a high priority. "Waste not want not!"

I've never realized this phenomenon, but you're onto something. I'd make my guess that convective heat transfer also plays a role in that observation. I hope I don't sound like a keyboard-warrior-troll lol. I like your idea, and I think its the primary condition for what's happening. I like spewing my thoughts for practicing my "off-the-cuff" ideas, so feel free to let me know if you agree or disagree; or don't feel any need to at all. The high pressure and low temperature air in the tank passes through an open ball valve, which the valve is respectively much smaller of an area to the tank; and with a much lower pressure at its outlet (tank pressure >> atmospheric pressure @ the valve outlet). This means high velocity! But low flow rate (cross-section of ball valve port vs. the area/volume of the tank). There is a large difference in the tank's pressurized air temperature vs. the brass material's temperature of the ball valve, due the ball valve having sat at an ambient temperature and having to likely equalize itself with the ambient temp of the room. Another good note is, brass is a decent conductor. With a large temperature difference (differential), and a high-speed flow, the convective heat transfer coefficient will be a proper variable for this situation. A fluid in motion will cool (or heat, depending on the magnitude of dT) a valve faster, the higher the convective coeff.

We use Evapo-rust at our university gym. all the friction surfaces have to be treated periodically. It converts it another oxide,(blackish) works well and leaves no primer or any thing. very clean and safe. At your local ACE there is whats called surface prep rust converter, it does not dissolve the rust but leaves a durable oxide behind, it is often used when prepping pipe fences and such. It holds up well exposed out doors. We still wipe you tools off with a grease rag any way(leaves a very light motor oil or axle grease rub, and is not slick)

Reminds me of the good old days, Drilling holes through the floor and knocking off chunks of concrete from the downstairs ceiling. What a pain. Some of those offices had such crappy concrete. Many of them were converted buildings like old libraries. Thin floors were the bane of our job of anchoring the racks and earthquake bracing. :)

Ha! Cody gets bonus points for trolling the usps container haters, well done. When I saw the bucket at the beginning, I thought you were going the Mathias Wandel route with a diving board for the mice. I've never seen that method, pretty cool. One of my fondest family memories was driving up into the mountains (of Utah) to cut down our own tree. We'd go way up into the snow, find and cut down a tree, having lots of hot chocolate along the way, it was so much fun.

I mounted my compressor in a similar fashion but used 1/2 inch quick bolts and 4x4x1 isolator pads. These are rubber type pads so I put a 4x4 electrical conduit box cover over this so the compressor feet would not sink in over time.

Don't forget about that careless aerosol spraying of the WD40 into the air that contributes to global warming and the contamination to groundwater from the spay that falls. Not to mention the oil soaked rag that will be thoughtlessly thrown away and will only lead to filling up the local landfill with toxic materials. It's just shameful... Sláinte

I'll bet all those so called do gooders are the biggest violators of the law themselves! They should try and practice what GOD commands us to do and they wouldn't be such busy bodies; To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

BIG Mistake! Those feet will snap off in no time. Always mount a compressor on 4x4 then bolt the 4x4 to concrete if you wish. Honesty once on 4x4 they never move. Power steering fluid is not ATF. Putting ATF in power steering will cause hoses to fail and ruin seals especially on rack and pinon. Go ahead put ATF in your hydraluc tractor system. I wanna see you get warranty.

  • @andrewbatson9710

Agree that power steering fluid is not exactly the Same as ATF. But some steering systems use ATF instead of power steering Fluid - Both my Ford trucks use ATF in the steering system. Given that Cody has owned Fords, this may be where he is getting that from.

@@andrewbatson9710 while ill admit i haven't read a manual for a newer ford truck, mostly because they are just not popular, usually because the engine self destructs after a few years and people scrap the trucks. My brother has one, three radiators, one transmission, and two engines later the 9 year old truck is still going. The car manuals state power steering fluid NOT Atf. Warrenty is void if atf is used. Especially on replacement hoses.
