Bro... this is one of the BEST explanations I've seen on using side spin since I started playing 4 years ago. My Boss is an absolute shark & I asked him how I can learn side spin shots & he said "You just learn it." That never made any semse to me (twice over) until about a year ago & watching videos like this have improved my game exponentially, so thank you & Merry Christmas! If you could put a pin on for Queensland, Australia please, I would be honoured! Cheers! 🤟😆🤟

Hi from Clacton, Essex. I watched this video about a year ago (for 15 years I've been playing, and could never quite get how to play with side), I had watch videos trying to explain it before, but none quite demonstrated and explained it like this one. A year on and I can play with side to an impressive standard. All the videos I had watch before either talked a lot with no real demonstration, or provided lots of demonstrations with no explanation. Just wanted to give you the thumbs up, honestly could never have got there without you.

Just subscribed, been shooting pool for 60yrs plus playing games across the world & remember a lesson learned shooting 9ball in downtown Seoul, never gamble with a snooker player! Now I'm a student in search of a snooker table... My old 8ft Brunswick will have to do until I find a place to play... Thanks for the lesson on sidespin I already do everything you explain but it is nice hearing my old habits aren't so bad meaning to change stances for side spin shots but I did learn from you to calculate before going down and it's made a big difference... I used to change my mind while stroking the shot and that never seems to work out.. very informative taught this old pool dog some new information definitely a lesson in all the things I needed confirmation in! Thanks again looking forward to more snooker tips!

Hey...wishing for your good health.. A question, can we change the side after getting down into the shot, by moving the bridge hand. One more thing, when we line a shot up our dominant eye is on that line ie behind the center of the cue ball, but if we are putting a side on the ball, where should our eye be, over the cue or behind the center of the cue ball, as there is a touch distance between the both. Thanks a ton :)

So, with the black shot demonstrating left hand side, have i got this right?… when playing it faster you are aiming thicker to allow for the more deflection to the right, but when playing the same shot at a slow pace you need to be aiming slightly thinner as the deflection in the cue ball has time to level back in line and a bit more? Is that correct only you said in another video when applying left side you miss to left of pocket and right hand side you miss to right of pocket which i get. But when playing slowly the opposite takes place as the cue ball has time to grip the cloth and goes back the other way? Is this correct ? Thanks.

So... which kind of side spin do you advocate using??? Parallel shift of the cue, or rotate the cue using back hand english? How do each of these methods cause changes in aiming? Side spin is a vixen that can cause great things to happen, or utter frustration in trying to pot balls.

hey at 5:14 you mentioned not to move your cue over but to come up with the exact spin? is this 99% correct? don't get me wrong i'm not that great of a player i'm also learning this but I cannot imagine this being correct all the time there are some scenarios that you have to adjust i.e. the cue ball is very near with the target ball but you need the cue ball to go on that specific direction i doubt it if adjusting the spin can cover or handle that but again i'm only a beginner player and i might be wrong if yes then please guide me, thanks!

Good video 👍 It's important to know the effects of sidespin and for me it's not fully clear how it works at different speeds and when playing with or against the nap. And is the object ball deflected more with slow or high speed? I am a beginner playing for 4 months and having 20+ breaks (if the reds are nicely open 😬) and I am using only center ball striking to learn the angles. Sidespin is too complicated for me right now, I use it only to escape from snookers.

SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWER- sometimes I get snoomered and miss the ball altogether and snooker myself again, but before the ball stops I'll push the cue ball further deliberately either with my hand or with my cue to prevent another snooker, is that just 4 points or do they get another 4 making it a total of 8?

  • @belowmars

much better explained than barry stark, he had a video explaining spins, he also used the baulk line as reference however he explained the side spin shot should've been exercised when the cue is moved parallel along with bridge hand(so the cue is parallel to the baulk line), however his method is just not possible to execute and doesn't make sense, the cue is always at a line that intersects the baulk line, or the bridge hand doesn't move nearly as much as the back hand, that's the only way the cueball can travel along the baulk line. I've never gotten an clarification back from Barry for that question.

When you were demonstrating the left and right side spin, across the width of the table, I noticed you weren't cueing parallel with the baulk line, left or right. Should you have been, or is that how your meant to apply the side spin, cutting across it slightly. In other words should you move your stance slightly left or right, depending on the spin being applied, or stand where you would if hitting a straight stun shot, but hitting slightly left or right of centre to apply the spin? I would have thought you would set up slightly left or right of the shot myself, but now not sure. Love the channel, by the way, great content 👍

  • @Breakfromlife

    @Breakfromlife

    4 жыл бұрын

With that if I was cueing parallel to the baulk line at that speed the CueBall would have gone away from the baulk line. In that way the line isn’t helping to demonstrate this but what is more important is that I’m setting up in the right place instead of moving ther.

  • @BorderlineBenny

You say you don't aim differently? Do you aim the object ball to miss the pocket but hit at that angle with the side to correct it . Or . Are you aiming the object ball at the pocket, sticking your ghost cue ball where it needs to hit to pot.. and then imagine the route line of the white in order to hit the object ball at the right place? I know if I hit with left then you could aim the object ball to the right of the pocket and the amount you miss it by depends on the power and amount of side. That seems easier than trying to imagine the route of the white to hit the object ball in the right place to pot. Although this seems more difficult, it is the route my mind takes .

BFL, please clear something up for me. At 7:00 min, you say to keep your cue straight with the shot, yet, looking closely, nearly every one of your side-shots shows the follow through of the CUE TIP curving in the direction of the side spin. Follow is not straight. Is this an sub-concious effect, it seems your stroking arm is not staying with a straight stroke. Please reply. I have seen these tendencies in other forms, example: someone shoots and curves their body in the direction they want the ball to go, not knowing they have done it.

This is also why the pros generally try to play every shot without side spin. But they can do it pretty well if they have to. Then there’s Ronnie who plays every shot with side lolol

why do i find this so hard to understand! Can you just do one example of you potting a ball (the black at 3:30 seems a good example) with no spin and put some guidelines over it, then another example of you putting side on the cue ball with guidelines and compare the two so I can see your angle adjustment. Because I'm still slightly confused here. So am I right in thinking, if you put left hand side on it then aim slightly left, and if you put right hand side on it then aim slightly right? Is that correct?

The object ball should not be affected by the spin on the cue ball. At 4.56 you move the red away from where it was touching the cue ball, this is because the cue ball will deflect to the left with the right hand side you apply to it so the red would stop that happening and the shot couldn't be played. The shot played is really a very slight swerve shot, you move the red to allow for the deflection so that the cue ball played at the right pace can then swerve back onto the proper contact point on the black to make the pot, and as the cue ball has approached the black from where it was deflected it can make the correct contact from there without touching the red first, but not from where it started as the red was very slightly in the way from there. This shot cannot be played any softer or harder, it needs the right pace for the exact swerve to miss the red next to the black, any softer and the cue ball will swerve too much and contact the red first, any harder and the spin on the cue ball won't be able to grip the cloth in time to make the swerve and the black will be contacted too thin to make the pot. There should be no transfer of side onto the object ball except when there is a bad contact or kick when the friction between the balls is increased through dirt or chalk on the contact point or simply because the surface of the balls aren't smooth enough, which is a fault with the Aramith phenolic resin balls and which is why the pro game uses very finely napped cloths, table heaters, ball polish and chalk at £15 a block to limit these bad contacts. The old super crystalate balls didn't have this problem, they were a harder material and could be more finely polished for a smoother surface, less bad contacts and an all round better game, but Aramith bought the company that made them and stopped their production in favour of their own inferior material. Balls were the same weight so this was purely a business decision to create a monopoly, they now supply balls to all cue sports around the globe.

Kindly help me maybe it helps other subscribers also. When we hit cue ball with right hand side where will object ball go? Left or right? . And when we hit cue ball on left hand side where object ball will go? On right 0r left?

Practice practice practice. Also, always play these shots at a pace that's natural for you. The harder you hit the shot, the less side you need generally as well. On a decent table, you can pay with less side and therefore suffer less deflection, but the real cure for this is practice.

I don't quite understand how you say you are not changing your aiming to allow for the cue ball coming off at an angle (3:30 approx.). You are of course aiming differently than you usually would, you are aiming the cue more to the right. Do you really mean you are not changing the contact point on the object ball? @breakfromlife
