100% true and correct. but that kind of culture is not being cultivated, even at Uni level. even just asking questions is frowned upon at Uni where i attended. the attitude to 'fighting back' is frowned upon in Irish society, which is odd given Irish history

I drove to the bank and arrived 10 minutes before the advertised closing time. A brylcreemed Lynx Africa slip-on-shoe wearin' kid in a suit that advertised his still young but sizeable gut told myself and an old woman they were locked and to go home. It was clear the elderly lady needed to get money out to do her shopping. When it was put to him that the bank didn't close for another 10 minutes, he shrugged and said he was told to stand there. Lovely people. This news does not surprise.

Indeed -all those who waited weeks to move from Ulster Bank- including my elderly relative- now to be told AIB is going cashless. Closing your account in protest - those who can use the internet and do pay banking fees - closing their accounts en masse would be the only way to force the banks to listen.

To take away physical banking and cash format, when cash is still very much legal, is not a right more, you can't just take away something so pivitol in society, small businesses, elderly people etc.. Rely on these banks, when cash is not legal tender any longer, then have your cashless banks. AIB has overturned their decision after massive, rightly so backlash. Don't go to post offices open a credit union account or revolt. In my own experience I have twice gone into my local one to open an account and both times been fobbed off and basically told to f off with no valid reason as I tried to explain they would not entertain me. I am not a violent person or anything but I told them were to go The staff that are employed by the civil service now are very inept and couldn't give a toss I got the impression they didn't want me to open an account. I feel for OAP and even people who are not Internet savy this is just the beginning of what is to come. Hope you have an better experience then I have.

@@breenirwin2356 there are caps on how much you can deposit in a credit union account. Which is roughly 10,000 to 30,000 euros. Considering the money you need to save for retirement you need a bank account. Saving money under a mattress only makes your vulnerability greater.

@@p3u3g3poultree7 Yes that is true For safety reasons under the mattress or floor boards I understand isn't safe. We have got to keep cash about as there is a genuine push to get rid of it in Ireland like I have said this is just the beginning of what's is to come.

I find this discussion unfair. There is nobody representing the bank instead with have lots of people with personal problems talking about their day to day life. I dont have an independent opinion where I could thinking about and come up with my own view, in another words, this discussion is sided and influencial.

On line banking makes it more hazardous for customers because of hacking by the Chinese and Russians. How do they protect against Chinese and Russian militaries removing monies from their accounts? Banks have insufficient software to protect from hackers. Banks do not care if their customers are the losers. Your problem is the same in the USA.
