Using Words to define images works up to a point- but try to generate a self portrait by describing your face to an AI in words and you will immediately see the problem- words cannot really express images very precisely. That's why the visual arts exist- if it really were possible to use words to describe visual things precisely then words alone would be enough- you would not need the pictures. So using words to make visual art is inherently problematic. Where I do agree with you is that having an artisitc eye would allow you to make better choices between different AI outputs- but this curation, not creation. The real reason that AI will not replace artists is because artists do not talk to their tools, they manipulate them directly to interact in a non verbal way that allows them to directly express their visual ideas without the need to reduce those ideas to crude textual approximations in which much of the original vision is lost or compromised by the limits of written language.

You bring up a very valid point... have you seen real time AI tools such as Krea.ai? I think this bridges the gap you're speaking towards where the artist can still have some visual control beyond just prompting. correct, AI wont replace talented artists that creates original art. but it will replace 100% of mediocre graphical designers

@@rpals5412 unfortunately I think you are right. Professionals / those at the top of their game will be safe.. it’s those in the bottom or middle that will be cut. To people who fall into that category, this should be inspiration to continue improving your craft.

When my line of work, pre-press, moved from the light table to the desktop, I adapted. I embraced the new tools and you’re right. My artistic skills come into play in photoshop. There was a time when I would spend hours retouching an image. With generative fill, it’s so much easier. But it still takes my artistic eye to recognize and choose the best option from the choices it gives me

Yes, it’s a complicated topic, but this little video, as far as succinct dialogues go, is by far the best I’ve yet seen. I haven’t spent any time yet looking into AI art but it is on my mind now and again, for one reason. The wonderful artist Dave McKean once said in an interview many years ago that the most frustrating thing for him when painting was that he often had visions in his minds eye that he just knew he wasn’t capable of ever creating in actual painting - he just didn’t know how to ‘get there’. And this is something I’ve always experienced and still do to this day when doing my own digital paintings. So the advent of AI art does have me wondering if this is just one possible reason for having an initial look into it, not because I think I can magically create these visions that are beyond my ability to replicate in real life, but just to start using a new tool that may be a bridge to different modes of creation. I’m sure there are people who actually think it’s a potential magic bullet to suddenly create ‘great’ art, but even a modicum of awareness shows I think that it’s way, way more complex than that. As you touch upon in this video. But I do think that a video(s) delving into for example Midjourney usage in a more in depth way would be really interesting. Not so much a how-to guide so that one could effectively copy steps, but a more nuanced guide to the subtleties of prompts and different ways it can be used . Your example of spending hours gradually finessing its results would I think be a path to take as one example of dipping one’s toe into its workings. Digital artists sell resources online(brush sets etc), I wonder if perhaps you might consider at some point creating training videos on different facets of AI learning, in this instance Midjourney, that your interested subscribers might be interested in purchasing? That might have zero appeal for you; just suddenly occurred to me that I would certainly be interested in something like that. If not, would you think simply diving in and investigating oneself is a good way to go? Many thanks for another excellent video. I don’t know how KZread works but I would hope you will inevitably gain many more subscribers given just the few videos you’ve put out so far.

Thanks for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed and you bring up some really interesting points. I too have experienced having something “in my head” and the end result turning out completely different than what I originally intended (for better or worse). AI can certainly serve as a powerful visualization tool and perhaps close that gap better than we as humans could ourselves. I haven’t considered any paid tutorials yet, but I’d recommend just searching for midjourney tutorials on KZread tons of great free resources :)

Great video! You brought up a lot of thoughts I hadn't thought about while reinforcing others I had. In secondary education, I'd like to see a shift towards encouraging the use of AI as a tool, instead of trying to reject it as a whole. (At least from what I've seen) I think if we can support AI as a tool through the high school level, by college hopefully graduates would be educated in the 'language of AI' to use it to further their careers. Unfortunately, I don't know how realistic it is to expect that from teachers, especially with how difficult education is as a field is right now.

Thanks for watching! Yeah, unfortunately with how the education system is setup, I also see it being difficult for this to be implemented unfortunately. Though I will say, there is something to be said about learning foundations first and not letting AI get in the way of that. I am a bit scared for up and coming designers for example, that may lean too heavily on AI and never properly learn the foundations/basics themselves. Same with coders, writers, any other industry.

AI enables a small film producer to create pieces that would have taken a lot more money and people to do a year ago. We should be more concerned with how the tools are being censored

Promoting is too unenjoyable. It is too much like coding rather than visual art.

Yep, agree with you there. I enjoy when used as apart of a broader process, but prompting alone definitely lacks a bit of process.

Although I agree with most of this, artists definitely should not just 'adapt' and take no action to protect the real artists, especially since many, many artists are having their work fed into machine learning without their permission and having much of it rehashed. AI "art" literally couldn't exist without the artist's work.

Prompt-engineering won't last long, not under this capitalist system. The sooner corporations can feed regular people a constant feed of personally tailored media, the better in their opinion. This will allow for the most effective advertising and social programming yet seen.

Yeah i agree with you there, though I do think knowing how to “speak” and work with these tools will continue to be a skill, regardless if prompting/machines become better at understanding us. Someone still needs to direct it

@@caseyrickeyart When you have a particular vision, especially one you want to share, you will want the ability to articulate yourself in a variety of ways. Mastery of languages will take your vision far. Being able to sketch out what you're trying to describe will also come in handy, in the same way that singing a few bars will be a boon. Yes, the highly creative will have these tools at their disposal. The question is whether or not other people will break free from their personalized feeds long enough to look, listen, feel

tangible physical art and digital art, they are indeed a talent. writing a sentence into a program so the computer can spit out tons of paintings, is not being an artist. this is ai tech bro just with a title that people that see the truth of AI would mistake for "good news."

Been playing with Ai for a few weeks and having so much fun creating new videos with the Ai art. Honestly it’s until you go and try it yourself you will not have a full understanding of how it works and what its uses could be used for. People will always use things for bad and unjust things that’s just human nature but if used correctly the possibilities are wide open.

@@caseyrickeyart for sure and just because you use it doesn’t mean you have to make what was generated public unless the site/designer makes it public witch some sites do. Thinking about it as even a potential writers block tool as an artist a total possibility to help you get creative. Just one of the things that it could be used to benefit a true artist

Yes, professional artists should have their personal AI that they train on THEIR OWN art (as a real TOOL), and not generate art from 16,000 + artists without permission. The theft from 16,000 real artists would still be a good thing if you couldn't profit from it, but... Bad actors are using this to undermine new struggling artists and get commissioned and also post more frequently on social media (using a.i. art trained on great artists/stolen) to grow faster. So yes it's a tool, but stealing from others, its the same as tracing, but harder to detect. Tech bros / bad actors are the ones that ruin these things always.

If i train myself on photography and to do so I study other photographers works am I stealing? If I do a cover of nirvana on my guitar for my own enjoyment, am i stealing?

I agree and disagree to some degree. But AI isn't going away, so artists and designers do need to decide whether to ride the wave or not.

And yes...AI will be replacing artists...it is already happening.
