In general most "Gamer" headsets are pretty terrible. This is why I prefer the Corsair Virtuoso XT's, they are much better in every single way, audio quality, build quality, and have more useful features. You also get a near broadcast quality microphone on the Virtuosos. And you can set the tiny amount of RGB to just be on when running on cable, so you get the best of both worlds.

This is one of the strangest short circuits I have watched, and I saw Linus dig in a a cake for a dbrand sponsorship money

I think he kind of just meant that if the sound is horrible for music then the overall experience isn't going to be great. In this case it was kind of tuned towards boosting the low bass, which isn't really what you want for music, in terms of tuning but it doesn't mean it's a bad set of headphones, it's mostly just the tuning causing the issue

The PC38X are a pretty damn good sounding "gaming Headset"

There is one very important test for a headphones that pretty much no one does, and LTT and Labs can be bit of trailblazer by including it in default rundown of features: how cups fits for a person with glasses. How cup shape and material interact with glasses' temples.

He should of fiddled with the EQ after that to give a baseline and what its potential is. I have senns that I maintain multiple different EQ profiles saved just to swap depending on the genre. Point being he should have toyed with the damn eq before filming cause they probably sound a lot better for music with a different v curve.

Disagree on the fake leather. Fake leather is terrible. Sure...at first it's fine...but then it turns into an uncomfortable flaky mess. It just doesn't hold up to day to day abuse like the real deal.

My Sennheiser headphones have similar ear cups. I found the best way to get them back on is to slip them into the groove at the top and bottom and then work the sides. It can be annoying.

That "Discord/Teamspeak certified" sounds a lot like marketing BS to me. I have a $10 generic microphone, works with discord no issues. If your PC recognizes your microphone, so should Discord and any other software. Whether it sounds good or not does not depend wholely on Discord either, but on the microphone itself.

I cant speak for this headset cause I dont know the features but usually „certified for“ means you will: - get support for that software and hardware playing along - have features like button-mapping and stuff (e.g. pick up calls in certain software pressing a key you choose on the headset) - any other stuff exclusive working on that software You can hook your Jabra Evolve to any software you need a mic but it will only pick up those incoming Team calls by pressing a button and no other software will work its not certified for…

Yet again, people with glasses are doomed to have their earcups being torn apart someday. I would have love to see a similar design as other headset which are designed to let the branches go throught on a tougher material. But hey, I might be the only one wearing glasses with a skinny all metal frame, which isn't helping to keep my earcups in a good shape

Having a recessed USB-C port isn't a "feature". I've had to buy and return many cables because of design choices like that. That said, the bit that plugs in seems to be relatively thick, so maybe it won't be too much of a hindrance.

Almost no one uses TS unless they're stupid, lol. Mumble is purely better, if you're looking for decentralized, and Discord's better otherwise

042 - I'd like to go back to TS, to be honest. Way better audio quality, device settings don't reset randomly, keyboard attenuation, and many more good things. Believe it or not, Discord doesn't work with every microphone or audio interface, or mixer (hardware or software - it has some issues with voicemeeter). On the other hand, TS works with a potato on a stick.

I would be a lot less annoyed by everyone using discord if they made some of their features work correctly and fixed the latency. Latency is more of a issue than i think many people realize, if two people start talking within the latency window, both of them think they started talking first (because from their point of view, they both DID start talking first) which leads to a lot of overlap. It's not as simple as saying don't talk over people, with enough latency you really can't tell. Audio ducking would be nice if it worked right (this automatically lowers the volume of everything else when someone starts talking, so you can have your game audio or music playing at the level you like, and get quiet when someone is talking. Last i tried priority speaker didn't work well either. these are all features vent, TS and mumble all had working years before discord came onto the scene. that's not to mention the huge amount of screen realestate discord takes up as well.

“We’ve gotten really good at making fake leather” As a leather worker I can tell you that’s certainly not true. All faux leathers will degrade much much faster than genuine leather. It starts to crack and split and anyone that has had a fake leather cover on their cars center console where you lean your arm or elbow knows how uncomfortable or even mildly painful that is.

Petition to compare wireless headsets with regular old wireless headphones from brands like Sony and Bose! I have to imagine you're getting worse sound for your money. The microphone and latency could be the tie-breaker though!

For $200 you should get simultaneous bt and 2.4, not either or. I’ve got a headset I spent an embarrassing amount of money on with simultaneous connection and it is fantastic because I still hear texts and calls, but I can hear my game at the same volume. At least these don’t auto switch when you get a call, which I used to have and I hated it. You couldn’t even turn it off. Mine are the Corsair virtuoso xt, and aside from the need to get bigger earcups, they are great

There isn’t really anything below 30 hertz, the boomy bass frequencies that are always tuned too loud on most headphones are between 50 and 30 hertz.

im using an ROG Delta Core and the overall build quality and sound quality is great, although the leather headband and leather earcups have deteriorated quite a lot after 1.5 years of usage, but it's normal for a gaming headset to be like that so im kinda fine with it, will consider upgrading to this

i doubt there's AI in your headphones. they probably just come with bloated software that you have to run on your pc that contains a crappy version of rtx voice. so, there's zero value to this feature, considering you can put AI software on any headset's mic

Discord is just not feature rich enough for communities that end up with large numbers of players at single events, milsim groups who need better channel controls, or some other communities that need to have channels for separate activities but still need a broadcast option to notify everyone with speech. I've used TS in ARMA, SQUAD, EVE, planetside (1 and 2), and several other games like those.

agreed, I've literally never had products with synthetic leather last more than a few years. my cloud alphas barely lasted a couple years before the leather deteriorated and started falling apart everywhere, including the headband. I also broke the original cable, so i was using a shorter temporary cable. It didnt seem worth it to try to fix the whole thing considering even the headband was ruined, so I ended up getting some dt 900 pro x, they have these velour earcups and the main concern seems to be that the foam might wear out, which is great compared to what I had to experience with those synthetic leather cups. I don't heavily use them so they should definitely last me a long time, way longer than how much they would usually last for people, so atleast 5+ years is my guess, before I'd need to replace the cups, but even then they should be "fine". edit: didn't notice that the headband seems to be leather on the 900 pro x, ill probably have to replace that before the earcups, oh well, hopefully it's better quality than the hyperx ones.

0:41 Teamspeak still is the best voip out there, it would have been weird if they would've printed on the box to be certified for Ventrilo.

No, it's not. It was already bad in the Ventrilo age, TS was only holding up because it was cheap compared to Vent. After Mumble was released and especially now when you have Discord or even Steam Voice channels for groups there is no reason to use TS.

I agree, TS sounds the best not to mention the encryption. Discord is great as a messaging app for communities but the vox is terrible (though their voice detection is better I think but who doesn't use push to talk?? I don't want to hear your dad noises lol) plus they own everything you do on there, like every other social media app. Not sure if it's still true but you used to have to pay for a decent bit rate with Discord so you're really only gaining a messenger (in comparison to paying for TS) which I already have plenty of anyways but TS5 is coming, eventually, probably.

YES, if you have a old PC teamspeak uses very little resures.

My question is, do you need the windows app running to get the AI noise canceling to work or is it processed in the headset? If it enables me to have AI noise canceling on Linux then I will buy the headphones immediately.

I got this headset 25% off with pre order 6 days ago and it’s great. The only downside is that it comes with short cable and it’s wireless only.

I have a RIG 600 Pro HX. It has similar ideas to the Delta S Wireless, since it has a USB-C 2.4Ghz receiver the same way the ROG Delta S Wireless has, but it's compatible with the Xbox. Planning to get one of these ROG Delta S Wireless headsets soon in May.

The Asus is still just a gaming headset, as most people say you'd be better going for better audio gear instead. Although with the SHP9500 a btr5 is not necessary as they are only 32 ohms so will run just fine plugged into anything, not to mention the btr5 is nearly as expensive as the headphones so you should just put that money towards better headphones as they are always the most important factor. I have not used SHP9500's before, but I've heard that AKG K612 Pro's are good for only slightly more, and hd6xx's are currently on offer at Massdrop which I personally own and definitely recommend, although you may want an amp for these so overall more expensive.

Picked up the BTR5 because….. iPhone does not have a headphone jack for my iem and the price difference between BTR3 and BTR5 was only $10. Great review though. I hope Linus tech tips will review audiofile level gear with the new labs because when I was young I thought you needed a gaming headset…. You know so I can blame something. Plus it will open everyone’s eyes to what is out there. IEMs included. Thank you

honestly for people on a budget I recommend getting clearance versions of last year's premium model. I got a $400 headphone for $200 this way. and with the chip shortage and inflation I expect newer models to cut corners to keep costs down. granted you won't get the latest AI tech or USBtC charging (the latter is still annoying), but you will still get quality sound at a reasonable price.

On paper seems very nice, but that would need to do better if Asus want people to change from a Logitech G Wireless Pro X to their headphones specially with that price im seeing the logitech one floating between 150-200 dollars new

Having a recessed USB-C port isn't a "feature". It's just proprietary bullcrap. You normally can't use other cables to charge this which is a hassle as you'd have to carry this or take good care of this particular cable, If ever the cable stops working for whatever reason, you'd have to buy this particular cable again. There is a reason why POTS phones and pilots headsets sound the way they do - clarity of voice. Because that is what is important in those environments.

Still nice to watch these reviews, but I stopped using gaming headsets about 18 months ago, and now use my HiFiMAN HE4xx or Beyerdynamic DT770 pro 250ohn through an ifi zenDAC and THX AAA780 amp with a modmic usb, mainly because I was too lazy to change over headphones one day and it just ruined my Logitech g935 after that

You can check the supported codecs in developer options in android devices.

Honestly, I prefer the MPOW-059, but this looks good quality.

When will headset manufacturers spend more than 20 cents on a microphone? This sounds bad even compared to some cheap electret mics you can get in a 10 pack for a few dollars on aliexpress.

I bought some no named condensor mic on Amazon for $70 with a scissor arm and it has a mute button on the mic. It's USB but it sounds great and doesn't pick up background noise. It's like these companies put thr worst mics into their headsets and then try and say it's great. They're all bad

​@@cooleyzz Condenser mics are always going to be better just because they are bigger. I'm on a similar setup with a standalone USB mic, though in the past my friend and I replaced our headset mics with $1 or $2 electret mics ordered online and it was definitely worth it.

Below 30Hz? Gunshots are way up higher in the frequencies.

(i.e.: will it butcher music?) 2) What Bluetooth audio codecs does it support? 3) What does the mic sound like over bluetooth? 4) What does music sound like in them while you're using the mic in bluetooth? 5) Does it support BT multipoint? 6) While charging - does it still work? (depressingly often this is something that needs to be asked) (Also, please forward these questions to the Labs-people for when they're building their test suite)

I don't think these support 3.5 mm but for 🎧 that do, I need to know it will still work when the battery is exhausted. really disappointed by a premium brand overlooking basic functions like that.

I'm going to get one forearm tatooed with a Ruler like Adam Savage, and the other tatooed with a banana for scale.

PS5 don't allow Bluetooth speakers, I've tried to connect BT speakers to my PS5 in the past and it gives me a message that it can't connect, which is dumb seeing as Sony invented BT technology in the first place, or have they updated the PS5 to know allow BT speakers cos i got a BT sound bar that i had to connect to my Screen via 3.1 jack as it also came with that option, which is the only way for me to get any sound out of my screen( as the screen has no speakers) It's also connected to my desktop and works fine as a gaming speaker.

Completely unrelated, but I still don't like the resolution that LMG renders their videos (3840x1920, 2:1). Yes, I am aware many KZreadrs do this, but LMG should know better. I understand wanting to render a wider FOV to better suit mobile devices that are mostly wider than 16:9, hence a 4k 2:1 letterbox render. However, in practice, 4k displays on phones are practically nonexistent, so phones end up maxing out the resolution to the 1440p setting at 2560x1280, causing phones with 1440p displays to need to upscale the image; 1440p monitors/laptop displays also end up with the same issue. Ultimately, the only display that can view the videos at a native 1:1 pixel output are 4k displays, the vast majority of which would be TVs; of that, the letterbox would not negatively affect only OLED TVs. That is an extremely niche group to be catering your videos for. Strangely, pretty much the only display that is close to a 1280 vertical resolution is... the *iPhone.* Explain yourself, LIENUS.

probably the default setting of the camera they use. I notice letterboxing a lot more on streaming services/tv and I hate it

Teamspeak is still more easily integrated into games for things like modded proximity or radio communication systems compared to discord, thats the main reason i see it used myself. Also, i hate those replaceable ear cups. That stupid thin plastic interface is the most finniky and unsatisfying thing. Magnets or clips next time please

Last Asus Rog hedset I bought, I had to send them back do to being so bad. They had no bass, sound was really flat. I need to see a actual real review instead of a sponsored video. Its a shame I havent seen a good ROG headset, since its my favorite brand.

Is it possible to have a range test on the wireless headphones and earbuds? I use mine with bluetooth during outside yard work while playing music off my ipad in the house as I do not own a cell phone, and my ipods don't have wireless. Keep damaging the wired ones. Thanks.

About time the best cost to performance headset goes wireless. If you haven’t tried the word variant def give them a go if you’re on the market. Next best option is neutral profiled hifi cans for studio monitoring ( excellent imaging).

Can you start doing glasses tests? I've bought many headsets only to find after 30 minutes of use I'll start to get really bad headaches from the clamp pressure on the glasses. Exactly the reason I'm still using my 5 year old Razer Krakens, only "cheaper" (within my budget) headset that I can wear for hours with no problems

he does mention clamping pressure is low, but I'm sure the glasses 🤓 wearing community would prefer something more definitive.

@@sim2er clamping pressure is all well and good but I don't think anyone with glasses has ever done the testing (correct me if wrong)? With these new heads they've got, I'm hoping they can adapt testing to include glasses somehow
