One issue with Jobscan is that if your keywords aren’t exact it ignores them for example the job description may call for problem solving skills, and the word processing program autocorrects to “problem-solving” those are the same thing to a human, but not the machine. It does the same thing with plural vs singular, past vs current vs future tense of a word. Makes me wonder how much “intelligence” is there vs just straight A=A formulas.

A resume never helped me get a job. I was searching for like ten years just doing odds and ends until I found someone that was offering a job. It was just pure luck. It is not the job I really want, but it is a job. Something is better than nothing. I hate places are doing this. This should be illegal or frown upon.

It's nice to see some tools to compete against the ATS, it could potentially give nurodivergency a foot in the door. Though at the cost of authenticity

I found the keyword matching tool in most platforms to be pretty useless. The first problem is, if you do regurgitate back to the company 70 to 80% of the keywords you get, it looks like you're doing just that, regurgitating their own words back to them. The second problem is many times the AI lists incredibly insipid words as keywords, such as always or trust. A lot of words you get back as keywords are just ridiculous. Third problem is you have no idea if the key words the ATS system is programmed to look for are the same as the words that were utilized in the job description in the job ad itself. In fact since I've been getting an 80% keyword matching the platform I've been using I haven't even seen a hint of an increase in responses. The resume tends to do better when it's aligned in general with what they're actually looking for in the job rather than mechanically just regurgitating back to them the same words they used in the job description.
