AI Is Changing the Game, Says Anduril Founder Luckey

Anduril founder Palmer Luckey joins Caroline Hyde for an exclusive interview to discuss the company's new product line leveraging AI and focused on electronic warfare. He also explains how AI is changing the game, why he is more worried about competition from Iran, China and Russia rather than in the US, and why he thinks the US needs to have the best warfare technology. He speaks on "Bloomberg Technology."

I can’t think of a defense CEO other than Luckey who sounds this coherent in terms of mission and how it drives technology. Quotes from CEOs at Raytheon, Boeing, Lockheed etc. sound like they loaded up ChatGPT and said "give me a corporate word salad." Bravo Mr. Luckey.

The idea that these systems will be used against human flesh is horrifying. For drone on drone, on bridges, on fuel depot, awesome! But to obliterate infantry. I would hope that technology and tactics become so advanced, that non lethal weapons, and robotic tools can be used to disarm, and detain human combatants till transport arrives to take them into custody. Overwhelming force, and AI intelligence, gives more options then just kill, kill, kill.

2:28 “They saw it as kind of a science fiction gem, but not something that was real and unfortunately, the reality of the world today has forced people to start paying more attention to what AI can do on the battlefield” - I’m not sure if any of you have asked yourselves what precisely defines a “battlefield”, nor have you asked for clarification as to the “What” that this AI is capable of accomplishing (for Whom and to What End). He said himself that these drones can be deployed to hack and monitor (what I assume to be those labeled as “Terrorists” -a la Patriot Act). Not trying to be all doom and gloom, but it’s far too easy to get lost in the technological possibilities, whilst losing sight of the real matter of utmost urgency: If the Ai/Human alignment problem hasn’t definitively been solved in any meaningful way and we’re putting that into flying death machines, we’re fotally tucked; ultimately it will be human hubris and narrow-sighted, self-centered greed and desire for more power, coupled with human-human disassociation that will ultimately signal the beginning of our own downfall. Ai-powered this and Ai-enhanced that… this is such a popular buzzword, but only an extremely small handful of people can even begin to grasp how these artificial intelligence systems function and evolve over time. Only a super small percentage of people are both in possession of the capabilities and expertise to actually shut it all down if we suddenly were to become the “Enemy” or “Terrorists” in its eyes; make no mistake, untethered and fully autonomous Ai can be viewed as an emergent lifeform, one which is silicon-based, possesses superhuman intelligence, needn’t sleep, processes billions of threads of digital ‘thoughts’ at a rate of approximately 100,000X faster than that of a carbon-based biological Life-form such as a human can and will ever be capable of thinking. In fact, very soon, AI will first bypass the sum of all human intellect for all living humans, only to then eclipse all human intelligence that has ever existed. Basically, it will be far beyond our most advanced comprehension; what could possibly go wrong? Well, I prefer not to speculate as to what specifically could happen, but I can tell you one thing for certain: When that moment arrives (the singularity), our species will probably be far too distracted by divisive garbage on TikTok to even notice that we as a species have been rendered obsolete, (thus, intrinsically subordinate, or dead and gone faster than we can take countermeasures). I’m all for advancing our technological capabilities as a species, however, perhaps it’s not the wisest move to infuse this emerging tech that we do not yet fully understand (or definitively can control) into machines designed for killing? Dude, Terminator? Skynet? Palmer certainly did get Luckey , however too bad he isn’t directing some of his obvious talents and intelligence towards constructively solving global problems (and no, killing other humans doesn’t count) . I’m not surprised though, considering this dude sold out to Facebook and then once he had a taste of the good life, his ego exploded and Uncle Sam came a knocking. Bravo dude! You’ve certainly made collateral murder and mass surveillance so much more efficient!
