Relly reminds of NES DPCM but... square and not as coarse if that makes sense...

Often looks like DPCM, but it might be a max-freq square wave being ring-modulated with an output stream if the PC speaker is like the 8580 where using the volume register on silence doesn't do anything

@@stgigamovement I mean the volume control having a higher bit depth than that. It's a PIT instead of software-generated sound like with the speccy and Apple 2

@smaybius funnily enough on ZX Spectrum you can play Arkos Tracker (PCM over AY) modules over the beeper if using 48k ZX Spectrums.

@smaybius The PC speaker having volume control partially explains the quality. That being said, PCM over the beeper is best done with stuff like a 486 or Pentium. Also I feel sorry for the poor timer being asked to time pulses very many times per second, something that it wasn't designed to do.
