Root is SO GOOD. Such a well thought out system and universe. Sadly, Root was kind of a punch in the gut for my gaming hopes and dreams. There are limits to me and my group's time and brainpower and Root stretched those to the limits. 😢 Great topic and content! Always look forward to your stuff.

Appreciate that. I still have this delusion that some how I will make 3 friends that have the time and desire to dive deep into a game like that. Sadly digital is likely my only avenue.

There are a slew of great 2 player games out there, Skulk Hollow is a decent enough asymmetric game. Not to mention Star Wars Rebellion and there is a cool CMON Dune game coming. As for Root, the first time I played it I knew I had to get rid of it. I have never had a group that plays the same game again and again. Just too many games and not enough time and Root is sort of a lifestyle game for a group who will keep coming back to a game. If I had that group, Root would be in my collection.

I keep Root as if we’re a museum piece hoping to dust it off one day. ROOT digital is my only outlet. I will check out skulk hallow thanks for the suggestion. I just did coverage on kelp and that certainly has potential as a asymmetric 2 player game. I can see it getting a little tired with only having the 2 options in the octopus and shark but worth a look nonetheless.

Hello ! What minimum age do you recommend playing the game? :)

good question, tough to tell an age because I think it is more of how experienced they are with games. Anything with asymmetry has you needing to understand different roles and there is a certain level of patience and engagement needed. With that said I think any 12 year old could wrap their head around it and any younger would be case by case. One I universally like to recommend is robot quest arena. There is light asymmetry and not particularly punishing when you get knocked out because you just respawn and keep going. I have a review up if you are interested.
