I don't get what is so funny about not having parents. It's more embarrassing when a person has parents but still acts like a brat.

My Ah Ma used to say a lot that she wanted to buy me Crepes if she could afford it. One day she actually made them herself, not the best Crepes I had ever eaten but she tried her best and I really loved it. Wish I could thank her enough for everything she did to me out of her limits, and maybe have a nice chat I could never have with her. R.I.P 婆婆

This short film, though it has been out for 3 years, still makes me feel very touched. It’s impressive how emotionally attached one can become over the span of 8 minutes, something some films can’t achieve after 90. Great stuff coming from TreePotatoes.

  • @vyintl

I'll be very honest, and I'll start by saying that the acting was top-notch. You see in this video many qualities that seem to be lost amongst the younger actors lately, especially how natural the act seems. Lately, in many of the shows/movies produced in Singapore, you see a lot of acts that just feels like the actor doesn't have any passion, and reads off a script. A good example would be "Ah Boys to Men" and its sequel, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's third installment would be the same. Up till today, i do not understand why many younger actors feel a compulsive need to force an accent when they speak English in the movies. If you're trying to entice the Singaporean Demographic, honestly why even bother putting on an accent? When you see the actors speak in Chinese/Hokkien, they become very natural, but when it comes to English... I understand the government's need for maintaining a good standard of English, but the way Joshua Tan portrayed Ken Chow just felt extremely robotic. But this is where TreePotatoes succeeds. Their acting is extremely fluid and natural, and you can quickly get immersed in their world. This is how Singapore's shows and movies should be done. Le En and Janice didn't bother putting up accents, they just went with their regular way of speech during the bully scenes, and that's honestly what many younger actors are missing. Kudos as well to the filming and editing teams, they pulled of very wonderful angles and lighting. The video felt professionally made, and could very well be. However, if I have to give a single piece of constructive criticism, it would be the story line. To be brutally honest, the story was bland and predictable. Then again, the video was only 8 minutes, so adding too many twists could have been an issue. However, i honestly felt that the story could have been done up a little better. Bottom line, TreePotatoes, keep doing what you're doing, and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

I've never ever taken my grandparents for granted. Almost any asian can attest to that too, because we grew up being ingrained the value of family and the gratitude of life nd thankfulness.

Usually I dont listen to my grandma+she speaks chinese and im not at good at it. My grandpa passed away when I was young. My parents were alwaya busy so my grandma would took care of me untill my parents fetched me back home. My grandma was always so noisy and I would shout at her.😢 My grandma doesent collect cardboard but she would give the old aunties the cardbords or just old stuff what she doesent need. When my grandma starts coughing and snezzing I get really paronoid. Im just glad that when my grandma gave cardboard to the old aunties she never ends up like that... Great work on the acting though!!! 😢😜

Its different when there's a language barrier, but before moving to America I remember the difference between native Asian family structures and American family structures. In Asia, families often end up living together with multiple different generations (usually 3; grandparents, parents, and child before he/she marries and moves out), but in America its not always so common for grandparents to live in same household, at least so far as I've observed. None of my friends' live with their parents and grandparents in the same house. And granted I was a child, so I dont know as much, but I know I was always taught to revere elders.

:'( That made me legitimately cry and I don't even cry to videos like these! Thank you treepotatoes, for teaching me that I now should cherish everything I have - no matter if I am poor or rich. This made me think of my great grandma who passed away about 4 years ago; even though I wasn't that close to her (like my uncle) I did get to cherish the fact that without her, I would not be alive!

This made me tear up, but I know even so, death is inevitable, and it will all happen to us one day. I have a grandmother who is over 90, and although she is still going strong, I'm constantly worrying everyday about losing her, and this video made me realize that I should spend more time with my grandmother and when her days are up, I will have happy memories with her to recall. Thank you Janice and crew, you have certainly enlightened me.
