Mr. Dan, You always have the best reviews with the Clearest Representation of what an amp, bass, or pedal sounds like.... This was not One of them. Maybe It was the signal chain Or something but everything sounded muffled. The sonic total opposite of your Gensler Magellan or Euphonic Audio reviews ( V euphonic audio Review was the best sounding review of any kind of equipment for any kind of instrument I've ever heard!! Every Button, lever, switch, or dial that was engaged

This amp sounds excellent. I have it paired with a 4 ohm Ampeg 610HLF and the lows are excellent and the highs are crisp and clear. No need for the deep switch to even be engaged, and I'm someone that typically loves to go to the extremes.

I'm going on 4 months or so of gigs with the AG700 and am so in love with this thing. I never have a problem dialing the right sound for a room.

Hi, I'm thinking about getting one of these. Heres what might be a dumb question for you; does the "700" in AG700 stand for how many watts it has. Any reply would be appreciated thanks pal.

I have this setup with two cabinets. The amp sounds quite neutral and clean with tons of headroom. I do think that a sweepable mid control like the TH 500 would be a better choice that the two midrange presets. The AG 700 is a good match for the two SL 112 cabinets. I would say that the amp is quite transparent and does not impart a character to the instrument unless using the EQ. I must say that I also like the Tone Hammer also as it has a warm midrange (tube like) baked in. In general, I think that class D bass amps have come a long way over the past decade. All the Aguilar amps are very good and can easily be recommended.

i was in that quandary, in the end i bought TH500, closer IMO to tube tone that the 7oo. Nothing will replace all tube but for me it was a hauling issue. I use a sansamp bass fly rig to get more tube like growl/gain...I swear that thing makes every amp I own sound like an svt. Probably just need that and a cple powered cabs actually.

I went into my local guitar shop recently and played the AG 700 through Aguilar cabs (light cabs), it is a BEAUTIFUL sounding amp, much better in my opinion than the Tone Hammer and THE best sounding bass amp I ever heard. However, I was using a Fender Jazz bass (4-string, passive) with no pedals plugged into the AG 700 and I noticed it cut-out frequently. All the videos I had seen on KZread didn’t seem to do that. Any idea why it was cutting out when the gain knob was at 11:00 and every demonstration video I have watched on it is at or higher than 11 but I didn’t notice it cutting out. This is the only thing keeping me from purchasing it. If you know why and how it can be prevented let me know. The only thing I wasn’t aware of was whether I had the active or passive switch on, but I was playing through a passive bass. Thanks!

The mids sounds muddy to me; when you took the bass out it sounded much more up front, but when the bass is at 12oclock everything above 200hz sounds veiled. Really surprised everyone in the comments is swooning over it so bad - I know the amp sounds better than this. (2021 iPad Pro, apple dongle, Shure SE846)

It's a Fender Power Jazz Special, kind of an early Aerodyne. They were MIJ from 84-88ish if I recall correctly. Those are definitely aftermarket pickups in it

I don't get why there wouldn't be a risk of blowing up that cabinet. The cab is 250W, the amp runs at 350W into 8 ohms (or with 2 cabs it would be total speaker handling of 500W but max amp output of 700W at 4ohms).

  • @EdilbertoOrdonez

Clem Lysergy Surely if he should try to go full power with that amp, could get damage on cabinet, because of exceeding power handling capability. As you say, the amp can develop up to 350W to 8ohm. I think the main power knobs on amp need to be limited (up to midrange for example), so the amp just develop a piece of his full power to 8ohm. Said this, you could use with this amp a smaller cab, but you will need to keep an eye on your knobs to avoid damage.

Aguilar always state the max continuous load. Because you can only generate the maximum output when you are playing the amp as loud as it can go, the power rating of a cabinet does not necessarily need to match the power output rating of your amplifier. The amount of power output is dependent on the volume of the amp but the reality is most of the time, you will not be playing that loud. I personally use this set up for smaller gigs and for the AG700 I prefer the way the extra wattage provides headroom and dynamics.

Can someone please explain how is it possible a 700W head with a 250w cab ? I’m still lost in the impedance stuff 😅

Keep volume low, dont push the full power. I hate those wattage mismatch on aguilars. But, you can mix and match any head and cab in the mesa subway series, no matter what.

The amp puts out 350w @ 8 ohms at full volume. The cab is 250w at 8 ohms. I run my Darkglass AO900v2 into the same cab with no issues. At rehearsal I rarely go above 11/12 o clock in the master.

Assuming 5 "knobs" on the amp and 3 "knobs" on the bass and considering 3 positions - min, mid and max - each, that would offer 6,561 unique control settings combinations. Of course anywhere in between would provide an almost infinite number of choices for the most choosiest of bass players. One might even stretch the argument that it's the "apparent number" of tonal choices rather than what if any discernible differences that exits between them that captures the imagination (rather than the ear) of today's gadgeteer "musician". How then could any recording session let alone live performance not be patient enough to wait for the bass player to get just that "special" sound as he dials up infinity?! I would submit that Aguilar offer a pencil and note pad with their amps to provide a means for the bass player to record her/his most preferred amp settings.
