Such a wonderful insight into Martin’s work and life. She was absolutely unique artist with her own voice, especially taking into account time. If you think about her ascetic life and straightforwardness towards "destruction" - this is a sign of her solely devotion to the art and the ways to express it. I would say that her art is "the pure art’’, if one can say it

Arne Glimcher, Agnes Martin's former art dealer, must have been one of her 11 friends she speaks about in "Agnes Martin: Between the Lines", a new very intimate documentary about her (trailer available here on KZread)

Men, do not hesitate for one moment to put a restraining order against your female partner if you feel your safety and health is in jeopardy. Placing a permanent restraining order on my female partner was absolutely the wisest protective move of my adult lifetime. My only regret is not doing it years earlier. Men, be safe!

Amazing that some interviewers have never learned the art of presenting a question, THEN SHUTTING UP. And, without interruption, permitting the guest to talk and FINISH the thought.

Do you think that Agnes Martin's refusal to have a catalog made of her work was a sin of pride as much as having a catalog made would have been a sin of pride? Is it not the pride of spiritual teachers that they can overcome their humanity? We are spiritual beings having a physical experience. The more we abandon our humanity, the more our ego flares up. Hence the speeding tickets....

I disagree with Arne in one point. I don't think Agnes wanted anything to do with Abstract Expressionism nor considered herself an abstract expressionist. 30:46 I enjoy and value what Arne has to say because, he was THERE and he sat with her on her old yellow tractor. 18: 33 He is a socialite with farm boy tendencies.
