Rauf Lala was the boss of Mumbai and the gang technically belongs to him. So, killing the boss in front of everyone also makes Vijay the traitor within the gang and rises the danger of him facing retribution from the gang. Vijay knew that and wanted to avoid that at first. Till Rauf Lala kept talking about the sister and Vijay lost it and killed him.

Sonu Nigam mentioned in one of his interviews that he literally cried while singing Abhi Mujh me kahi. And boy does this song makes most listeners tear up even today.

Vijay's relationship with Rauf Lala is very realistic. As much as he is disgusted by his activities, the man practically raised him. Also, Vijay has a bigger goal, killing Kancha. He needed Rauf Lala's backing to make it happen. Until Rauf Lala forced his hand that is. There is no black and white.

He left Rauf Lala always because he considered him to be a father figure. He definitely used him to grab power for his larger objective for which getting Mumbai first was important. Now u have this situation where u want Mumbai but also as a matter of respect, since he was treated as a kid by Lala, not kill Lala if possible. Vijay was always trying to find a balance there though a bit tilted. U can see this as an India thing. It is believe u me

9:37 - They kept that execution scene ambiguous, so anyone can have any interpretation of it. Mine is that during the early parts of the movie, when the time jumps to "15 years later", the character of Gaitonde says that Kancha runs Mandwa like Hitler's concentration camps. Therefore, I believe that this is something he does on regular intervals just to show and maintain his power over the Mandwa people, just like Hitler used to do with the gas chambers. This is the closest reason I can think of why Kancha does that.

Anyday bro.. yes amitabh bachchans agneepath was also very good, Mithuns character, Danny's kancha version all were great but this movie just blew my mind i get goosebumps and emotional every time I watch this one.. Hrithik, Sanjay dutt and even rishi Kapoor were just outstanding and gave a performance of a lifetime.. for me it's one of those rarest of rarest cases where a remake in bollywood has been done way better then the original (again only my personal opinion)

If both of you were Indian, you would have come to tears while watching this segment!

Rawan is the demon king of Lanka island in Ramayana. That was the regerence by kancha because he was as a king of Mandwa island.

So that reference "Asked Ravan for his Lanka" comes from Ramayan which is one the most famous and spiritually monumental hindu epic around Lord Ram. Ravaan is the main antagonist in the story and his kingdom was called Lanka. This kingdom is speculated to be present day Sri Lanka, which is also where it gets the name from and the kingdom was made of gold, the whole city gleamed in pure gold brilliance. That is what Kancha here means, refering himself as Ravaan (self aware of his demonic traits because Ravaan was born to a Rakshashi [female demon]) and Mandwa as Lanka
