Sid's skating was off the charts in his prime. He was just on another level in terms of not only edgework, but also sheer speed, agility and power. He was so hard to physically knock off the puck even if you could catch him. He may have been the most complete skater the NHL has ever had.

That's literally what the legend Wayne Gretzky said himself about Crosby.
Sid might not be as flashy as he once was but defensively and fundamentally he’s still the best

he was flashy in his early years, before people started head hunting him.
His puck protection video is even better. Seeing how he dominates along the wall and creates plays while being significantly smaller than most the players he is against is a beauty to watch and cements him as probably the best grinder (a term usually reserved for depth players) in the history of the game.

Some of the most impressive things to watch on Crosby aren’t his hands. They’re his feet. He’ll pivot, twist or angle them in the perfect way to get the right push off of the ice or impossible maneuver.
Crosby's mohawks (the technique when he skates with his feet in a straight line and heels pointing towards each other) are so iconic that some people these days legit just call them "crosbys"
@jeffhooper4677

its funny bc when I was younger it wasnt til I started watching the same videos that matt is reacting to, and I brought the mohawk to my team bc it was so unheard of lol

2006-2013 "Sid the Kid" was untouchable. The highlights from his first 2 or 3 seasons were God-Like. When I see the Goal he scored, assisted from Mark Recchi, where he slide on his side AND deflected it out of the air, my jaw still drops. Don't get me started on the "Welcome to the Crosby show, Canada" goal where he disrespected Cristobal Huet in the shootout in his first game in Montreal
Sidney Crosby is truly just like Lebron James. Doesn’t matter how old he is, still dominant. Not to mention they were both the most anticipated prospects in a very long time. Guys that were on national tv at 12 years old
At this point in his career Crosby is like the old man on the block. He won't wow you with some highlight reel athleticism anymore but his fundamentals are unmatched. He'll outwork you, defend you perfectly, and his footwork/control is pristine.
I've always felt that if you've never played hockey, it's hard appreciate how good Crosby is. Also, highly recommend you add Jaromir Jagr to your list. Hes got some great highlights... and a great mullet lol
Sid is one of those players that pop up once every 10-15 years. But to stay healthy all these years (not counting the head injury) and still remain top of the food chain... insane. This is a tough game.

You should watch the video "Sidney Crosby puck protection". It's truly ridiculous his ability to hold onto the puck.
Crosby vs ovi is a killer video! Wait till you see what they both did in one playoff game !
this guy will go as the best in history. His skating, his IQ, his hands just amazing to watch every game. This guy is still showing it even at 35 which is insane. Sucks he will retire soon. But man we are very lucky that we still have him playing
just an fyi, edgework is knowing how to use the edges of your skate blade. In hockey, you have to edges which you can use to turn, stop, and start on. The inside edge, which is the edge that is closest to your other foot. (So if we’re talking about your left foot, the inside edge will be on your right) and the outside edge, which is on the other side. The way Sid uses it requires tons of skill, and most players aren’t able to do it the way he does
@yojustmatt

Got you, preciate the explanation
The channel that this video comes from has a bunch of different Crosby videos that highlight a specific part of his game. Crosby is not one of the flashiest guys in the league anymore, but when it comes to the finer details of hockey, hes basically perfected every single aspect.
Love watching you react to Sid's nonsense. Man's getting old now but he's still doing stuff that drops jaws.
Power and elegance. His legs are massive.
Another incredible skater to look into is Karill Kaprisov. I don't know his skating backround, but he is one of the most fluid, elegant and strong skaters I have ever seen. His skating angle can be so close to the ice like a figure skater and he builds speed and has incredible control of the puck. Definitely someone you should learn about. He's also a really damn good hockey player, but his skating is unbelievable. Kaprisov is a franchise player for the Minnesota Wild and is one of the best players in the NHL these days.
this is the vid i watched when i was younger when i was trying to get better,i always tried to play like crosby even tho i’m a philly fan and have never rly liked him he’s the complete player that every center should try and play like
Imo the Sidney crosby puck protection video is the best. He's basically fending off 2 to 3 players using strength, determination, skating and stick handling.
You should watch crosby puck protection next by xxlaflamexx. He is one of the hardest players to take the puck from ever

@@yojustmatt Let’s go!
crosby is a fundamental player he does all the little things right that separates him from everyone else
Sids tip ins/deflection are outta this world His IQ is amazing
Shout out to whoever has the responsibility to sharpen his skates.
Sid is amazing. His legs are super strong. I once saw a defenseman hit him to knock him over or get him off balance and the defenseman bounced off him and fell.
You should check out the video of his best passes. They are truly incredible. He’s still the best all around player in the world. Truly an honor to watch him play
Video does not refer to his "agility", it refers to how well he is using the edges of his skates. Look up the shape of a hockey skate's blade and you will see that it has an outside edge and an inside edge. The mastery of using these edges is what separates skaters from each other. Crosby is just a maestro when it comes to maneuvering on the ice via his skates. This is because of how he is using his inside and outside edges, his "edgework"... not his agility per se.
When you throw the headset off and start saying 'Wait a minute!' over and over, I eat that sh*t up!
My man im a penguins fan and i love SIDNEY crosby never heard of sydney tho...

😂😂my bad my bad, that was a mistake
Crosby's legendary for his lower body strength and for his edgework and hand-eye coordination. Dozens of players over the years have talked about how hard he is to knock off the puck once he has it. Defenders hate playing against him for that reason. And he's still just about as good as he was in his prime.

Each skate blade is actually concave. So there are 2 edges on each blade, an inside edge and an outside edge. The forces generated on the legs, hips, and spine while performing sharp turns and maneuvers at speed are enormous and would simply buckle a normal person's body. These guys average around the 200 lb mark and travel an average speed of around 25km per hour, over 30km per hour at top speeds. It's incredible what they can do.
Best skater in the game

🙏🏾🙏🏾Thank you man, glad you mess with them fr
his iq and edgework is the best in nhl nistory not that flashy as alot of players but he always does the right pass or play
So to transfer edgework to ball world, prolly the closest to crosby would be hakeem olajuwon (sry if spelled incorrectly). Hakeems footwork gave him a huge advantage in his post up game, which he was dominating for so long. Crosby dominates the puck protection game (correct me if translated badly, not native), its basically when you are near the boards with your head facing the board, with a defender on your back. I cant really reacall the last time i saw him lose this 1v1. Yes, he is overall one of the goats, but i think this skill really pushes him on a different level. But if youd like to see a true master of puck protection, you should react to Jaromír Jágr. He is the best hockey player my Country ever produced and i can calmly say he is the king of the 90's. PS: keep pushing man, love your content, big support from Czech Republic
