Some of these dogs are faster than those times, the problem is the person guiding them; at times they hesitate.. If these dogs were to guide themselves, they will smatch those times~

The dogs can't read course numbers, though, and part of scoring is the dog going over the obstacles in the proper order. I've seen young dogs just go wild in the ring, and they tend to gravitate toward the obstacles they like best. For collie types they seem to default to zipping through the weave poles over and over again. Shorter dogs seem to like the dog walk and having a good look around from a meter up.
@mariagriffin1518

That's the best part about agility - it's a team effort. The handler has to teach the dog, listen to the dog, bond with the dog, and guide the dog. On its own, the dog would take a few tunnels and not know any better. Only the handler knows the course, and they serve as a sort of GPS for the dog.
It was awesome to watch the competition. Thank you so much 🤩

Some of these handlers either were so stressed that they were sloppy or just needed more time to train.
The miniature American shepherd was so fast! I was surprised it didn’t win. But that cocker spaniel was clearly a seasoned competitor. It wasn’t as fast as the mini American, but it ran the course so efficiently.

@katiegeorge9875

Most handlers work for many years to get to this point and when you dream about it for so long you get the ideal picture in your head. Different people react differently. Crufts is a huge competition with a huge atmosphere that puts pressure on the handler. When it doesn't go their way some are upset others just get over it quicker. In the end the handler gets over it and continues but most dogs couldn't care less if they get a fuss or not agility is enough of a treat for them and afterwards most just want their ball not their handler smothering them. My collie ignores me after and agility run and darts off to instead get her ball which is the real reward meanwhile I hang back seething because I know I could have done it better which is likely what goes through some of the handlers heads.
@jen7662
6 жыл бұрын
I agree with the comment that some may care less about their dog. I don't know any person personally whom has abused their agility dog but I can see how serious people take this and I can also understand human nature about how we may project our frustration/anger (or other feelings) onto others (including animals). Although I believe the animals may like the agility courses (specially those with high energy levels) I would speculate the dogs do it for fun vs. the human business of it.
@nocturne2029
6 жыл бұрын
Remember, a lot of those handlers aren't actually the owners of the dogs. And also remember, they need to get out of the ring ASAP so they probably congratulate the dog backstage. In any case, the dog has the time of its life on the course, for them that's the highlight and they don't always want a ton of attention after. Plus, some handlers have more of a working relationship with the dogs instead of a pet relationship when they're in the spotlight, which isn't bad, just comes off differently.
I feel like stopping and giving your dog some love at the end should be required. Some of the people just walked off without even acknowledging their dogs. You wouldn't even be there without your dog, and they're only doing this for fun and to please you.

Kinda late comment but just wanted to say that as someone who competes in agility, I can tell you that with a lot of these high energy dogs the first priority as soon as they're done running the course is to get them out of the ring. Praise can come as soon as they're OUT of the ring. Not sure if Crufts is like this, but in a lot of shows ANY bad behavior while they're INSIDE the ring is grounds for disqualification - so if the dog got overexcited as soon as the course was done and maybe tried to run around and do another jump or two you would be automatically disqualified. Any experienced handler would agree that it's pretty frustrating if you do a perfect run only to be disqualified because your dog got too excited and tried to run the course again. Yes, I'm sure some of these handlers are just "in it for the win" but please don't think that just because they don't praise them AS SOON AS they finish the last jump that the dogs don't get praised :-)

I and my partner were at Crufts yesterday, it is a shame they now seem to refer to the dogs by numbers and not give their names
@katiegeorge9875
6 жыл бұрын
Christine Rayner-Jones well think how many dogs are called Bella...ect. I'm not sure if your talking showing because the names are often given in agility. The number helps define which dog it is because the kc name tends to be ,ongoing and the let name is common. Imagine shouting out the winner is poppy, with thousands of dogs competing there'd be a bit of an issue. Pretty sure the dogs aren't too insulted 😂 the owners are given numbers too

Amazing bebis! All good boys and girls 😍
Is it possible to have a grouping for Advanced dogs, i.e. when any dog has garnered more than, say 3, first place wins, they compete with other similar proven dogs? This would give more dogs a chance, maybe.

Well, first, I think most people doing agility are doing it mainly to have fun with their dogs, and secondly, if you mistreat a dog it won’t enjoy it, and if the dog isn’t have fun it won’t do well, so if you really want to win at agility you’re better off beating your own head against the wall if you’re frustrated, rather than taking it out on your dog. People who are prone to losing their temper are not likely to succeed at the sport.
I loved how they did it🦮
Nice video!
Cocker are the best dogs!!!
This is impressive, love it :)
Hilarious and really strikes a chord with me 'cos this could be a doppelganger for our dog Reuben who is a Jack Russell/ Fox terrier cross. Same colour scheme, same long hair.
