Cool but the first example, with the castle, doesn't exist in game It is a fanmade video

You know there is age of empire 3 between them, and it's strange but it came after the 2 and before the 4 (You made a mistake in the description, you wrote 2 time "age of empire II)

None, it's a physic simulation posted on reddit by a fan named Shankwanger.

It's Age of empires 2 Definitive Edition. I have it. IT's real.

@@TheScooted I do not think the first is from the aoe2 “remake”. Unless it’s from a scripted scene. The synchronisation between the shots and the castle would be very expensive to have in a pre rendered engine

Yeah. I actually do not understand why some rts just remained 2d… I mean, some rts use the 3d in interesting ways, like the total war series, but others? They are better as 2d, like C&C, StarCraft and aoe of course.

Reason: one was made with passion and effort from microsoft estudios y el otro fue hecho mediocremente por relic.

age 2 is isometric 2d game. all the units and buildings are actually 2d image not a 3d model. so the destruction is a pre rendered video. if you try to simulate that destruction with that much of polygons in real time even rtx 4090 will struggle

Age of Empires II looks better than Age of Empires IV - Age of Empires II is over 20 years old as well - shocking.

I'm an Age 2 player, not Age 4, but I feel a need to point out the fact that while the in-game castle destruction is good, it's not THAT good, and while ruins stay (at least for some buildings) in Age 4, they disappear very quickly in Age 2.

The destruction in aoe 2 is added in the “remake” of the game. It’s also “simpler” to implement because the destruction is more akin to a gif or a small pre rendered video playing when the buildings is destroyed. Doing something similar in a full 3d game would be more complex and expensive in terms of user hardware. But is also true that aoe 4 destruction is kinda simplistic and not amazing it kinda looks slightly better that late 2000 rts like C&C 3
