This brought back memories of the game I use to play called stronghold Legends. I use to stay up and just build up massive castles and control both sides building each kingdoms armies up for massive fights. Those where the days. Then came the total war games I found and a new era of warfare began for me. Thank you for this video you had me reminiscing my child hood🙂

Just for future reference you will want a lot more economy. Usually in AOE games you build almost exclusively villagers for the first while (with a few troops to defend or raid the enemy). 100-150+ villagers is not uncommon and you can always delete villagers later for military population room. AOE is about having a better economy than the other guy as 9 times out of 10 a better economy means better/more troops and then you win the game.

Apollo just gave me an itch by spamming melee infantry in the midgame, and also sending the cav into enemy melee infantry. Hahaha. The battle would have been shorter had the cav been sent to go after the archers after the infantry of both sides clash. Age of Empires 1/2/3/4 = rock

But Norman French was apart from the "Langues d'Oïl", which included as many other types of Old French from differents regions of the North of France (Picards, Angevins, Poitevins, Bourguignons, Champenois, Franciens, Wallon, Lorrain, Franc-Comtois, Gallo, Mainiot... and including Normands etc ...)

Im a northerner smack bang where the rebellion happened. William was a monster in his retaliation and it bothered him for the rest of his life. He decimated the area in what became known as the harrying of the North in what was basically genocide. The after effect was recorded in the Doomsday book with once vibrant highly populated Manors being described as 'waste' each with only a handful of residents left. My own village was also waste with only 2 residents left. It took a decade for the area to recover and on his deathbed William was supposed to of repented with thes words " Ive persecuted the natives of England beyond all reason , wether gentle or simple. I have cruelly oppressed them and unjustly disinherited them. Ive killed innumerable multitudes by famine or the sword and become the barbarous murderer of many thousands of both young and old of that fine race of people " This confession is up for debate if William really said it or it was propaganda of the years after his death. Either way i believe it tells the truth of the horrific events that happened either from his own lips or the memory of the locals who invented the propaganda.

Well the game obviously doesn’t know it’s history it’s in actual fact the normans we’re losing and their morale was broken which caused them to retreat since they also thought they had lost William in the battle which he had to remove his helmet to show to his troops he was alive whilst this happened the saxons broke ranks and sallied forth to attack only to be cut down by the Norman cavalry and the regrouping infantry in the end King Harold the Saxon was killed being shot in the eye by an arrow and having his elite bodyguard the housecarls fight to the death surrounding his body until they two succumbed to death the retreat was not intentional but was a mass route which turned into a regrouping as they figured their leader was alive sadly
