Daddy Agboola Shadere is truly a legend. God Bless you real good
I had almost the same experience that Mr Multi had. I visited somebody in Fajuyi Hostel in Ife. And someone was playing this wonderfully mesmerizing jazz from his corner of the room. I was instantly struck and to find out he was Nigerian. I was so awestruck. The man is the legend of legends. Thank you so much Agbaletu for this great interview.

This Uncle Shadare speaking here played one old-time song I knew. Anyway, it was the song I listened to as a very young guitar player then, the song goes like this "Jiji mo ji o baba, mo was fope fun O, mo sun layo, mo ji layo o, mo was yin O logo". I never knew much about jazz music, egbon yi kan dabaru orin yen, I couldn't find the head or the tail of the song, he played the song in a jazz pattern which I have never heard of in my life. It was too superb, wow, how could someone play the guitar like this, with many 16notes and all that, syncopated notes. Then I knew that there was trouble with the guitar I carried. I looked at myself, I looked at the guitar, I asked my brother who gave me the cassette the name of the person who played the leading guitar, he said Agboola Shadare, it was recorded in the cassette then, I think that was 1992 or 1993 (The year I listened to the song, not the year the song was recorded). The name did not ring any bell, but I knew this Agboola Shadare should be a genius, fear entered me because I felt where should I restart from again? What kind of songs should I start listening to? Who is going to train me in other to play like this? The guitarist in my church whom I was looking up to then as the best guitarist became "konde" lol. He made me understand and see myself that I have not learned anything, shin-shin, lol. I give glory to God that I heard about him, and his works at the earliest time of my life.
