I had a very gracious call from JayBird to chat through my negative points. They took all the feedback very well and made the following points: 1. The audio quality issue I had when running is not something they have really had reported by other reviewers, so maybe watch a couple of other VISTA reviews before making up your mind. 2. On safety: "Our guidance for runners would be to always be aware of their surroundings when running with music / audio playing, and the Jaybird Vista earbuds can be used independently if people chose when running in a busy or built up area." As I said in the review, the audio quality from the Jaybirds is the best of the bunch, in general great headphones. But I personally just had a deal breaker experience when it came to running. Lets see what the next version is like!

I agree with you on the thudding. I'm surprised that they say they've not had this reported by other users, as it seems to be caused by the tight seal. If actually makes me feel quite nauseous, as it feels like a thick heavy heartbeat in my head everyone my feet hit the pavement, even when just walking. The only way around this is to use one ear, as mentioned above, this also helps with safety. The sound quality even in one ear is good enough for running, though I wish I could run with both and have some sort of hearthrough.

This is probably the best tech review video i've ever seen. I almost didn't watch it from the 18 minute runtime, but I gave it a chance I watched the whole thing. I loved the vlogging/running/reviewing combination. A 3.5 hour, 20 mile run is also pretty intense. And I have to ask, was it possible to sync all 3 earphones at once, and if so what was that like? I now also want to move to Northern Ireland.

This is a great review. I was very surprised by the outcome but completely agree. I bought some Aftershokz (Air I think it was) last year for exactly the reasons you mentioned. I did find them quite surreal the first time because it's a bit like someone holding a small speaker close to your ear as you run. On a side note, that sweet shop/truck looked so tempting! Nothing better than getting a big bag of sugar after a long run (although you run a lot further than me).

Brilliant bit of commentary on the headphones. I have similar experience with any noise isolating headphones with the sound of the internal organs bobbing around with each footstep and a can never understand why and other review has ever stated that a set of buds like the Jaybirds would be at the top of any list for runners. I have been running with AirPods for years and have had good success no matter the conditions although I have always liked the idea of the AfterShokz but have never pulled the trigger on buying a set because the apples work well enough for me. I did buy a pair of AirPod Pros for cycling though in hopes that the pass through feature to let in sound from the external environment might work out for me. I have slight tinnitus and have been protecting my hearing for quite a number of years. Cycling is inherently noisy once you get about about 18mph and I can hear nothing but wind noise at those speeds. I have found that I can hear better with noise isolating earbuds or even earplugs when cycling. When I purchased the AirPod pros, I was anticipating that the sound pass through would be adjustable, but unfortunately it is not. Meaning, that you either get full noise cancelling, noise isolating, or full pass through. At full pass through, you end up with the headphones recreating the wind noise I was trying to get rid of in the first place, so they offer no effect. At full noise cancelling, they actually work fairly well and I can still have cars, or tractors, coming from behind much earlier that if I wasn’t wearing anything in my ears. Due to the state of relations between bicycles and cars these days, I find myself out on gravel roads much more often where hearing cars is easier and the room we can give one another is much better. Speeds on the bike are still high enough to warrant the use of hearing protection and the AirPods Pro’s work well in full noise cancelling mode.

Really good comparison - keep up the great work 👍 I recently tried running with the Airpods Pro (I know it’s a slightly different price category) but so far those have been the best for me. They are secure, very comfortable and you can put them into “transparent mode” - where you can both hear your surroundings as well as your music. The "cut-out" you mentioned is a real problem for in-ears but not so on the Airpods Pro when ANC is enabled (first I've ever tried that) Also you don’t have anything dangling in your neck which is a plus in my book :)

Nice video and review! I have tested all 3 headphones also and agree with your conclusions for outdoor running. The only thing that I would add is that the AirPods can more easily fall out while running. Also, for indoor running on the treadmill, the Jaybirds are the only option as with the others, the background noise (from the treadmill) will drown out whatever you are listening to.

I know this isn’t running related but for sound editing you should have a look at the KRK 8400 Studio headphones. They’re over the head closed headphones & probably the most loved by sound engineers. As a Studio monitor headphone the give exact sound. Nothing is enhanced so what you hear is 100% true sound. Best headphone for sound editing I have ever owned. I’ll buy again but I don’t know when that will be because mine are 6/7 years old & still in perfect condition even with a lot of use as a touring DJ & sound engineer.

I’m a runner and I have owned Jaybirds Tarah Pro, Vista, Beats PowerBeats Pro, Apple Airpods and AirPods Pro and recently brought the Aftershokz Aeropex as I wanted to see what they are like for cycling. Out of all of them the AirPods Pro are the best in terms of sound quality, comfort and ease of use. I can’t get over how terrible the Aftershokz sound compare to the AirPods Pro. I think they are for the health and safety conscious people who don’t care much about sound quality. Never really see the point of them for running if you just stick to pavements. But they are good for cycling.
