We need a villain who has the power of Friendship with their underlings. This would challenge the worldview of our heroes.

comme ntor I agree. Someone who isn't manipulating others, but instead draws them in through being a good friend, and genuinely is (which is why the map doesn't ever pick up on them). Their world view should be related to revenge- the ponies hurt them in the past, maybe even banishing them and taking their lands, so there is a communal racism and hatred to ponies, similar to the Palestinian conflict or a redo of Over a Barrel. The conflict and solution wouldn't be 'friendship solves everything', but instead you can't always make things right and compromise is key. They won't get along in the end, yet agree to disagree and all will make amends. There needs to be serious conflict in this show now. We have enough fell good friend moments. Show us what happens when friendship was, has been, and is no more. When pain and consequences are real, and solutions aren't at the end of the book.

Better yet: what do all the past villains have in common? Nightmare Moon, Discord, Sombra, Chrysalis, Tirek, Starlight. They all worked alone. Chrysalis and Tirek being the only suggestions, one had minions while the other had Discord's help and then back stabbed him. I'm suggesting having a *team* of threats, not just one or two. The good guys have a Justice League, and the villains need a Legion of Doom

That's what I suggested. But instead of having the usual reluctant partnership or mindless swarms we have a genuine group of friends who believe in and support one another, providing a new way of looking at the morals and values of the Protagonists. They could even be a group of 6 individuals who act as foils to the Mane 6. Someone who uses knowledge for evil, Someone who gives away for their own benefit (PR or manipulation), someone who is simply loyal to the other side, someone who loves the more predatory side of nature (basilisk, manticore or hydra) someone who doesn't lie just words the truth in a different way and someone who uses dark humor. This way we could humanized (ponyize?) them through eachover, giving them character and personality without compromising on the evil.

So basically, if Starlight Glimmer hadn't lost her temper with her "friends" so easily when her view on things was challenged by outsiders, and wasn't such a nazi about CMs only to have been hiding hers, to again lash out instead of being willing to ask for or accept help from others? ^- *it wasn't brainwashing or her magic but she herself as herself that did the trick to start with, kinda like how pictures of Sunset suggest about her. Had she not tried to run, but stood her ground literally & figuratively alike she could perhaps have kept them won to her side with a touch of honesty.

Sort of. But probably with a smaller group so we could develop them more. The "Twilight" of the group would probably have a more "first among equals" kind of deal instead of a full blown leader.

“How do you make an iredeemable, but still interesting character?” I’d like to introduce you to my good friend, Dimentio.

Sort of interesting looking at this episode after the show finale and seeing what they got right and what they got wrong. Cosy Glow might not have been killing ponies to eliminate threats, but the comarison between her and Bellweather can be made. Both of them wanted power through popularity. Both of them manipulated social elements to achieve that. In fact, Cosy Glow and the other villains were so successful at destabilizing Equestria that the wendigos ended up returning. The final two-parter wasn't perfect (I have issues with the whole Tirek couldn't handle Discord's magic bit), but it got a lot right, and Cosy Glow was part of that...even if her motivations still are a little confusing.

Sombra's appearance here is a lie. We all know that Silver had him conquer the local 7-Eleven. XD

The people of 7-11 revolted. It was a dark and brutal battle. Sombra expended his resources and pushed his men to the brink on fruitless battles. He expected a fight, but never had he considered that the commoners would be willing to let themselves burn before surrendering their homeland to him. Few survived. His men couldn't take the constant battle, and mutinied. When Sombra fell, he was torn to shreds by the soldiers who once stood by him. Only his horn remains.

While this is mearly something one would find in a Fanfic, given how OP'd the Heroes are now, is that I feel like it's becoming more and more inevitable that we're likely going see a Dark Alicorn, i.e. a Princess who has fallen from grace and was stripped of her wings or horn and regained them through artificial means.

UPDATE (since I know the video was made before Season 7) We have 6 Pillars of Equestria 1 friend who brought them together 1 Chaos Spirit 5 ALICORN Princesses 5 National Heroes 6 Elements of Harmony 1 Crystal Heart 1 Magicial Unicorn (and her friend) [Plus all the allies the yaks griffons dragons] I would say the changelings and hippogriffs BUT Thorax said, “The changeling empire can’t survive a war if anyone blames the changelings.” In School Daze Part 2. The Hippogriffs decided to hide underwater from the Storm King instead of fighting. :Side note: Maybe they fought and failed and the underwater plan was backup BUT WE WEREN’T TOLD THAT!!!

Honestly, I'd be open for a possible villain team-up, that's always an interesting concept. There's a reason why the old saying goes "The enemy of my enemy is my friend.", it would be really cool to see former baddies unite in the belief that they share a common enemy.

I really like your concept of and antagonist, Silver. Majesty sounds like a fun character to face. though i would also like to see her look less obviously like a villain. Yes, Starlight is just a pony, as is Sunset. But what if Majesty was introduced not as someone suspicious, or an outright villain, but as someone good? Maybe she's there to help face that larger threat you mentioned, and does some good for Equestria, suppressing it to a degree, and then lets her true colors show as she turns n the reformed villians?

I know it’s literally been years since you commented this, but while watching I thought the exact same thing, a character shown as hood only then to slowly become bad while having everyone still believe they’re good would’ve been really cool, it’s a shame they didn’t do something like that

The next villain would need to be one who has Antimagic or something, so no amount of Magic can take them out. Then have the heroes defeat them through some other means.

Well... my sisters and I have a sort of theory that revolves around how the ponies seem to be making a lot of allies really quickly. Maybe there is a war coming, or at least a threat big enough to where the ponies will need what's basically an army to take it down.

Know this is late, but wouldn't it be Angband? To that as well, don't know if he would march forth with an army, he is a corruptor, and he would taint the land as well as the world, twist people into his desire, and in such a magical world as we see in the show, with dragons and many other great beasts, he would have way too easy a time in gathering powerful forces and smite anything that stands against him. The Dark Enemy may be too much of a foe, because he does not work only with his own strength and that of any underling he may have, but by corruption. We should leave mighty gods out of these matters unless it is for a grand final.

What I think could be cool is a threat that CANT be solved by friendship or harmony, imagine if the demons from Dark Souls or the Beast Blood from Bloodborne was in Equestria, it’d force EVERYONE to do things they’d never want to, something I think any good villain should

On the Up and Up, you have to count the Dragon Ember and the Changeling Thorax, with their legions following suit. Wonder what Flurry could do at this particular point in time, considering age and past acomplishments?

Quill's idea for an extremist trying to act as the "Big Good" is also very good. Too much Chaos is bad, but too much Order is just choking.

I really like the idea of bringing Majesty back as a reflection of 'doing the wrong thing for the right reasons'. The other villains were either victims of the waahhhmbulance (Starlight, who went evil because a friend moved away and evidently she never heard of writing letters or visiting), evil for evil's sake or greed (Sombra, Tirek, the Flim Flam brothers and arguably Chrysalis), or out of hurt (Luna). The idea of having a villain who is trying to do the right thing and improve life for all around her, who is trying to be 'good' and make the world a better place by taking things to extremes, is a good one, and one that I think a lot of people can relate to. A lot of people, myself included, have fallen into the line of thought that the world would be better if bad people were just GONE. Which, isn't entirely wrong, but in some cases that is going too far, and in the world of Equestria would probably be seen as unnecessarily violent when most conflicts can be solved by a speech or banishment, though Majesty would have a genuine argument for her view. For example, pretty sure when Sombra got zapped, he wasn't just made a good guy or sent to a corner to think about what he did...preeeetty sure that guy's dead. Also, if Tirek was destroyed rather than banished, he would not have come back and done so much destruction, including destroying Twilight's beloved home. Majesty would have very valid points for her view, and that would make her so much a better villain than 'bad because bad'.

i am extremely late, like uber late, but what if someone did used this, now then to both explore and possibly let fanfic writers go crazy here, (bonus points if said villain is a male and a competent one at that) have a villain be the one having to save everyone oh sure it's most defiantly because of selfish means but still, he has to save each heroine and they might at first try to reform him and he just rebukes saying "listen as amusing as reforming could be, more important things are happening" and kinda afterwards have him be somewhere in the world, still evil but they at least know he's not gonna go on a rampage he just might cause a few places to succeed from the equestrian ruler ship or whatever

I saw the grogar in the background!! he'd be my go-to in terms of villains to have return with a G4 upgrade in necromancy. That said, Majesty would be an excellent season long villain/anti-hero. I'd watch the heck outta that! Thought Catrina would also make an interesting choice, after all the things the vain will do for beauty should not be underestimated.

There were plenty of good G1 villains that could get a G4 makeover! The evil cloud that ate shadows to gain power. (major anti-Pegasus villain) The Flories to trick the Earth ponies. (I see an Apple Bloom story there) The Pig witch that was obsessed with the ultimate magic cloak. (She made it from Unicorns' manes. Rarity's worst nightmare) Sonmulus, could bring her carnival, hook up with Flim and Flam. (Luna shines as a hero and finally gets the recognition she deserves.)

What about Catrina from the second My Little Pony movie? She enslaved people to make a potion to give her power. She even held one of the younger ponies hostage and nearly killed her when the other ponies refused to become her new slaves. I'd like to see her get a G4 remake.

I'd say the Flories would be great villains to bring back, as they were weeds who absorbed the life from the earth itself (hell you could even tie them to the 'featureless wastleland' alternate future) also Lavan, a magic draining lava man obsessed with the idea of power for power's sake, he surfed on lava and fucked up EVERYONE

I don't remember her name, but I remember there was this villain who trapped the ponies in some "perfect" world or something where they got anything they wanted in a dream come true way. However, the longer they stayed there, the ponies life force slowly drained away and they started becoming old or something because I think that villainess was using it to power herself up or something. I only remember in was in that special with the big brother ponies

"How do you make a character beyond redemption and still make them entertaining" Oh hey JoJo Main Villains i didn't see you there - especially you Yoshikage Kira your still the best. In all seriousness you can still make a relate-able villain who we understand why they are doing what they are still and still make them into a fun villain (Kira being a shining example of this). Personally i would like to see a MLP Villain that we relate/understand why they are doing what they are doing as well as making them interesting but at the same time we see that there is no redemption for them because they understand/accept who they are and don't want to change. I like the whole hero challenges the heroes beliefs thing (and why Johnny vs Valentine remains my favorite fight in that series because we see Valentine test Johnny's intelligence as well as his morale or lack of them. It asks the questions - what is the better outcome - a man who desires to make his country better but will do anything to achieve that means or a person who simply wanted to enter the race due to selfish means and was main goal was finding a purpose - Who is the true good guy). As much i don't like Alternate Universe charcters are villains storyline - I would like to see an Alternate Twilight Sparkle who believes that Celestia's reign allowed for too many problems/bad guys to arise and that eventually it will all come crumbing down and thus created a world where there is less freedom but the population is safer. We could have a seen of Alternate TS's challenging TS's faith in Celestia and the fact that villains will keep arriving and that peace doesn't last forever.

Malcolm Neill I've thought about something like this, but in an EqG setting(because alternate worlds are more established there). Although my TS is rule 63'd(male version).

I would like a villain that is the one behind it all, A creature of bone and a heartless spirit that dosnt care if a puppet is reformed. Soon he would go after the make six, one by one, leading them away and eliminating them. A villain who doesn't rely on magic but on Cunning thinking, a strategic puppeteer who thinks before he acts, he may even eliminate discord first

Personally, I always love villain's switching sides or at least, making truces. There's no greater satisfaction. Plus it's one of the only few ways for a villain's story continue. They're either killed(the worst option), become ineffectual(the Team Rocket effect), become the main threat that pretty much encompasses the series(the Dio effect), or they join the protagonists. And with MLP, it's something that really fits the show. Friendship is Magic after all.

Sombra's revival is possible, especially since the comics aren't canon. However, I would expect him to come back either during the series finale or an arc revolving around Flurry Heart, assuming that they do a time skip of sorts and make her and new cast the next gen mane 6

@Matt Eckert Oh please. The show oversteps on the comic's toes all the time. Twilight's mom was the original Daring Do creator in the comics, but the show retconned that saying Daring Do is real. In the comics, I've been told that Celestia has a dragon army which is NEVER mentioned in the show at all, so trust me. The show has no problem stepping on the toes of the comic books.

Steven Escareno i'm not saying it couldn't happen it's just very unlikely. The show has final say on what is cannon but it's unlikely that they would just make it so that a 4 part story arc never happened. The only reason the comics were allowed to do it in the first place was because the show had no intention of using him again.

What I always wanted, was to see a villain who wasn't some ancient evil or magical powerhouse, but a seemingly normal pony. No talent for magic or anything. Just pure strength and cunning. Someone who would play mane 6 into his game like Discord, just without the comedy bit, and test them from shadows as a distraction while quietly working towards a different goal. I also think it would be nice to see someone who can't be taken down by shooting him with OFCOD (Orbital Friendship Canon Of Doom) and would just shrug it off like it was nothing.

A villain that has no magic would not be a big threat. Its not like the main characters lack other stills so the villain would not have any adeventages. Maybe if there was a team of villains who would be lead by this character.

Omega6047 Any pony villain of substance has been a unicorn. We've had some antagonists like Lightning Dust and Caballeron but they don't really count as full on villains given their relatively low threat level. Having magic is just an easy plot device for the writers to demonstrate a villain's power and streamline the conflict into a more visually stimulating confrontation. Just look at the newest villain 'Shadow Lock' in the IDW comics. As you've already alluded to, a non-unicorn pony, particularly an Earth pony, would have to rely on personal strength, strength of numbers or highly intricate planning(hence intelligence) and resources. Either that or some sort of friendship magic-neutralizing McGuffin to give them an edge. Some sort of pony Lex Luthor or V from V for Vendetta. Obviously more kid friendly though. Given the targeted audience of the show, it's nature and lengthy history at this point I don't see it happening. But I'd love to be proven wrong.

That's kind of like Starlight. Granted, she had really powerful magic as well, but her real power was in her manipulation and planning. She separated Twilight from the rest of her friends. She rigged the playing field in her favour so that she didn't HAVE to beat Twilight in battle, just stall her long enough to stop the Rainboom.

So, you'd turn Majesty into Light Yagami? OK, that does sound pretty interesting.

I fucking love Shen as a villain, easily my favourite of the kung fu panda villains(of course his amazing character design and animations make me biased)

What we need is for pony versions of the witches from the Volcano of Gloom to appear. True, they'll behave more as comedic villains. But Hidea was always rather intimidating, in her own way, toward her daughters

7:20 I like where you're going with this idea for a revamp of G1's Majesty and all, but having her simply be just another Powerful Unicorn gone bad at this point would be too Cliche, and if she were an Alicorn, then Hasbro would probably try the whole Alicorn Princess approach with her, and right now the Fandom's got plenty of Those to last us for quite a while, so why no try having her be something a little more Unique to the franchise...... Like have her be a Kilin(Kirin, Qilin or how ever you want to spell/pronounce it) a.k.a. a Dragon-Deer, a.a.k.a. the Chinese Unicorn, like she could be a Deer with the Scaly Skin & Mane of a Dragon, and have a single Antler on her forehead, and she could wield Magic with it like a Unicorn, but because she's part Dragon she could also breath Fire, but unlike regular Dragon Fire, her Fire Breath would Also possess Magical Properties, like restore life to dead plants & other stuff, and in MLP Lore the Kilins could be beings of Honor, Virtue & Purity, and Majesty could have come to believe that "Purity" would mean to rid the world of trouble makers, so she began attacking still-baddies & reformed-baddies in an attempt to "purify" Equestria, and even turned against the good guys for trying to stop her Purifying Mission. Or for a Simpler design, she could be a Twonicorn(Two-Horned Unicorn, pronounced 2-Nicorn), in MLP Lore the Twonicorns could be the Pony Equivalents of Hindu and/or Buddhist Monks who have obtained a Zen-like Nirvana & have opened their "Third Eye", or in the Twonicorns' case unlocked their "Second Horn", as in they obtained a Magical Nirvana & literally grew an additional horn on their fore-heads, this allowed then to gain a greater awareness of all things Magic, and granting them a Link to the essential source of All Magics, enabling them to summon & absorb Magic from the very Space around them, allowing them to wield Magic that goes beyond the Power Levels of Alicorns & even Draconequui, but Twonicorns' Physical Bodies would be more frail than either of the aforementioned, so if they Overdue it with wielding Magic of such Intensely High Magnitudes, they could experience a Magical Backlash that could knock them out cold, so because of their immense power, they live in solitude far away from society, and are under a vow of "non-interference", where like the "S-Class Heroes" of the Manga/Anime "One-Punch Man", Twonicorns only intervene whenever there's an "Impossible Situation" to deal with, like Apocalyptic Threats that threaten the extinction of any/all live on (Pony)Earth, or threaten the very Planet itself, and Majesty could have lost her way and came to believe that Pony-kind was setting itself on a path of Self-Destruction, and thought that the only way to save Pony-kind from Itself was to break her vow of Non-Interference, and begin remaking Equestria into her own vision of "Perfection", convinced that it's all for "the Good of Pony-kind", even if it meant having to detain the good guys in certain ways. Either Way, it would add a bit more Spice to the Recipe if Majesty became more than Merely a Powerful Unicorn, otherwise then it would just end up feeling like that ideas for MLP Villains is all Stuck in a Rut.

I've always had this idea of bringing back Grogar from G1, in a similar vein to Tirek. In this case, it would play up the fact that Grogar is a Necromancer, and have him rule an army of ghosts or wights or wraiths or something (since I dunno if the show could get away with genuine zombies of the non-cookie variety). Starting as just an urban legend of a mysterious castle that can be seen in the mist on dark nights, and should one hear the toll of the castle's bell, it means that you are about to be snatched away by his ghost army, never to be seen again. Only have it turn out that Grogar and the castle do indeed exist, and occasionally breach through from a pocket dimension or something, which is why the castle appears in different places all the time, and have the conflict being that Grogar is snatching away ponies by the dozen as his castle is appearing more and more (due to some cosmic phenomenon or rather that causes the barrier between worlds to thin), so the Mane 6 are tasked with solving the mystery of the disappearing ponies before all the ponies in Equestria vanish, and before all of them are vanished away, one by one...

Silver, your video predicted season 9's villain roster. Sombra Chrysallis, Tirek, and KP represents cozy glow a pegasus. Amazing!

I applaud your recognition of Majesty and how utterly messed up G1 MLP could get (both in the comics and the show).

I think you guys would like the fan fiction "The Rise of Darth Vulcan." Even though the villain of the fanfic is also the narrator, I really like how he challenges and even manages to overtake our heroes: with logic. I won't delve into spoilers, but notice how most of the more powerful villains in MLP are usually brought down with a single massive burst of energy, usually from the Elements or Harmony: That's how Nightmare Moon was brought down, and Chrysalis was defeated by the combined power of Cadence and Shining, while Tirek was brought down by the discount Super Saiyan forms of the Mane Six and Sombra was brought down by the power of the Crystal Heart. Each of these villains was taken down rather quickly and before they could cause damage to the ecosystem or present a new style of thinking. The villain in this fanfiction manages to avoid being destroyed by said brute force, and actually manages to use strategy and tactics to leave the main cast of heroes reeling every time he comes into the picture. Combined with the fact that a single climactic battle doesn't destroy him or revert him, and the fact that with him as the narrator, we understand what he's doing and some even get convinced he's right, as a villain should do in order to gain minions. Your own opinions can vary, but I highly recommend the Rise of Darth Vulcan as a fanfiction read. It's pretty well-thought out, well-written, and above all, has a spectacular villain.

I'd go along the lines of "Three Evil Rulers, Three Cold Hearts". A group of evil from the past that has skills beyond the norm and tactics long since lost.

Darth Vulcan. Please tell me that it is a MLP/Star Wars crossover. I cannot seem to find any.

What we need is a Cerberus Villain (look it up). Someone like Locus and (Spoiler) from seasons 11-13 of Red vs. Blue. Someone who could challenge the heroes not on a power level, but one who outsmarts them and plays to their psychological weaknesses.

One of my favorite malicious villains is Malefor from the Legend of Spyro. Even though his time under the spotlight was short, he made it clear that he was complete devoid of any potential for redemption, and he enjoyed that. He legitimately disturbed me with dark sarcasm and demonic voice. Every time I decided I felt like battling him, I felt like I was going up against the devil himself. That's the mark of a truly evil force.

My all time favorite villain has to be The Makuta Teridax from the first generation of Bionicle. When he was first introduced he appeared to be the Primal Evil like Sauron from The Lord of the Rings, at the time we knew very little about him, we didn't even know his name was Teridax or that the Makuta were a race and not one being because the characters always referred to him as just "The Makuta" like how we call Satan/Lucifer "The Devil" and they describe him being present where there is darkness and death. Legends told that he was the brother of the great god Mata Nui who betrayed him, but it's later revealed that Mata Nui created the Makuta race, and Teridax was just the second in command. He had once been seen as a hero for his deeds protecting Mata Nui from a group of warlords who attempted to usurp Mata Nui, but Teridax did it all for himself so that he could be praised by the people and it was just never enough for him unless everyone treated him as the god he saw himself as so he started to call himself the brother of Mata Nui, overthrew the former leader of the Makuta and put Mata Nui into comatose state. He may seem like someone who's petty for seeking validation from the praise he recieves and getting jealous if someone else is more beloved than him, but I see him as someone who's also incredibly determined and won't settle for being below the best, people tell you that you can be anything you want, so he decided to be God, and with his sheer will, resources, patience, and intelligence he succeeded! Through the whole series he was constantly several steps ahead of everyone, outsmarting the heroes and other villains, and when the hero's finally thought they won and revived Mata Nui, they fell for Teridax's final trick and placed the last puzzle piece in his plan for him. Mata Nui's body was revived but it was taken over by Teridax's mind! He became god! The third thing I love about Teridax is that he's so evil that you can't help but love whenever he's in a scene because he has some of the greatest lines and you know he can let all hell break loose! He can't be negotiated with because he's the grand manipulator, you can't appeal to his moral side because he has none, he's a sociopath who has no emotional connection to any living thing but himself.

Now of course like anything "good", likewise one must train to overcome limitations as "only those who are broken to begin with can break free from all" but so too being limited to start with can be, limiting. (for example, one who has to Learn how to Learn, gets very good at learning.) Check your facts next time as you seem to have otherwise done here, and use better spacing as I have. ^-

My idea for a villain isn't someone who is particularly powerful themselves, but have a million ways to ruin your day. Instead of powerful magic or brute force, he would use potions, ancient artifacts, and deceit for his evil schemes. However, his personality would be a chaos spreader, not a world destroyer or kingdom conquer. He knows what he's doing is wrong, but finds everyday peaceful Equestria as boring and thus love chaos so much more. And to make things interesting, he is blatantly honest and would even set up points for the heroines to succeed. And when it comes time to face said heroines, he just leg it to the hills and use a million different tricks to evade his pursuers.

With all that magical power from the main cast, an interesting villain might be a creature that could subvert that power somehow. Perhaps adsorb it or not be affected by it? Or even mutate it like the Poison Joke does. I think that'd be really cool.

Personally I would like a force of nature villain, like the Smooze was in G1 or the Nothing in "The Never Ending Story". There's no reasoning no motive, it is simply the embodiment of something like fear or hatred and it force the protagonists to reflect on themselves who they are a people in order to beat it.

Considering the fact that the mare you just described sounds eerily similar to Cozy Glow, you weren't far off. Especially when remembering how she wanted to rule over all friendships, reflecting how she views the concept not as an ideal, but rather as a means to an end. I'm glad she didn't go the route of reformation, cause then it would have just added to the already overwhelming amount of heroes in the main cast. Still, I feel like there's a possible return of not only her, but Chysalis and Tirek in G5. After all, the stone inprisoned don't exactly age while in their encased state, so perhaps the mane 5 , or possibly a rouge pony (or creature) like Majesty, will one day find the lost statue of the old villain and somehow manage to revive them. With a foe like the literally power hungry Tirek potentially able to reek havoc on the still broken Equestria, along with Chysalis and Cozy Glow, they could prove to be a real challenge for the heroes of now, who are still getting used to having their magic back. (Eh, but who knows? In any case, I'm just happy to see more ponies 😊)

What about a return of Tirek only this time instead of going straight for the magic of the ponies he releases the darkness of limbo that Stygian used and binds with it? The darkness was more powerful than the pillars and most likely was above the main six. Those two merged with Tirek's ability to steal the magic of others would by far be the most dangerous antagonist any of the main six and other supporting characters had ever faced.

I love your Majesty idea (pun not intended). I love seeing extremist villains who want to do good, but go too far in the process. One of my OCs (not from MLP) is like that and has a sympathetic (albeit complicated) backstory.

I think the next big villain needs to be a team of them, like the main 6 (7?) they need to be unified in there main goal but have there own concerns, and most of all there friends. Imagine if twilight has to consider needing to break there freidships up as the only way to stop them and the hardships and turmoils of haveing to use everything she learned on freindship in a evil way. There is also the possibility of an alternate worlds Midnight sparkle, I've had a head cannon seance the end of season 5 that midnight sparkle's portals effected the time loops starlight made, the end result being that the alternate worlds became stable, meaning they didn't go away with each trip.

Good video, Silver Quill! This gave me chills. I've heard that Majesty defeated villains by simply turning them to stone, trees, or bubbled them away into nothing without mercy, so Majesty are, without doubt, a VILLAIN HERSELF.

This is gonna sound like really stupid fanfiction but this is a villain from my headcanon: Clinch (Former Frisco T54 4-8-2 Mountain #1513) Voiced by Ron Perlman (who also played The Lich from Adventure Time) Clinch was a villain driven by a sense that no one respected him as much as he believed he deserved, because after his crew died in a wreck, his body was broken up for scrap. As a revenge scheme, he rebuilt himself from the rails up and went on a rampage smashing into CSX trains. Then (a year later) he tried to "one up Sombra and the Storm King" by taking the now dead dark kings' plans one step further and destroying Equestria rather than conquering it. He took a different approach and killed a stallion named Corneighlious Vanderbuilt to possess his body. As the head of the Everfree & Northwestern Railway, Vanderbuilt had a strong position of power and even held a seat in the Equestrian Senate. He used this identity to convince the general public to support a rebuilding of the railway's infrastructure while simultaneously using the princesses and the Mane Six as a scapegoat for all of Equestria's recent problems. Then when everyone was lured into a false sense of security, he struck and dominated all corners of the realm. He even pulled a Holocaust by sending innocent creatures to a hostile gloomy confinement where they would become nothing more than a number, on a daily basis have their spirits crushed and suffer humiliation and loss of self identity until they died. Scary huh? But he was doomed from the start, because even after plunging Equestria into 36 long mortifying days of armageddon, Twilight and crew *still* came out on top. Thus rendering Clinch's idea of destroying Equesria *ABSOLUTELY POINTLESS* and now he regrets having ever tried to destroy a land of pastel colored horses and other mythical creatures.

We need Darth Vader and Darth sidious type villain or Deathwing and The Lich King types. Or maybe Alduin type villain who wants destroy the world so he can make new one in is own image. idk so many possibilities to make a really good villain for MLP. If only this show wasn't meant for little girls and it was hardcore like Transformer Prime Or Star Wars Clone Wars, just imagine the many possibilities they would have went for really great villain? That just my opinion what they could've done with the show.

WILL not lose against those ponies.

I would love to see a villian come from either the Canterlot court or some ancient sealed away evil. The latter slowly making it's way by working in the background, literally. It could work by doing something to some of the background ponies, slowly working it's way up to either the Mane 6 or even to the castle. It could be from a time when there were other alicorns.

Dangit, you guys made me want to binge-read fan fiction, but I can't because it's time for me to go to work. Also, this is my first time watching a Silver Quill video. Woo!

I will admit, the inspiration for my last comment came from a reading done back Black Iris Balloon of "The Order" by Babs_Seed_72 from fimfiction. the character of Capt. Iron Hoof was where I got this. maybe something like "the order" as the title suggests, could be part of it. in the story, the "order" is this ancient law that dictates who can date/marry who. (which would destroy almost every ship this show and possible future ships) Maybe some ancient spirit, who was sealed away during a time before Celestia and Luna. It could have lived during a time where there were other alicorns, even alicorn princes. whether the law is gone or not. its still trying to enforce the "order" and maybe trying to force the Mane 6 and other ponies into relationships to distract them or break them apart due to it not liking Twilight being friends with "lesser ponies" because she's a princess. it could be unleashed by accident by somepony reading an old book and summoning it at the start of the season. as the episodes progress, it could push a new couple together in the background if it doesn't agree with one of the pony's choice of partner. for example, if it saw an earth pony in a relationship is a pegasus, it could brain wash them into breaking up and force them into "proper" relationships. working its way up to the princesses, not knowing there are no alicorn princes left. I can even see it trying to break up Cadance and Shining Armor, just because he's not an alicorn. I can even imagine what it could say to Twilight and other ponies to push them into relationships. "Princess Twilight," a voice hauntingly called from the shadows, "aren't you tried of being around those not of your stature? What could pegasi, unicorns, and earth ponies offer a Princess? Not much. You're strong, intelligent, beautiful, and powerful. They're just holding you back. It's best you no longer associate with them. Outside of holding court, of course." the voice seemed to swirl around her, almost putting Twilight into a trance. "No. What you need is somepony who can stand as your equal. A pony who can defend you if there ever was the slightest chance you couldn't protect yourself. Somepony noble. Somepony strong. Somepony like yourself. What you need," the voice then whispered into her ear, "a prince and husband." It could even show how part of society expects everyone to be in a relationship with someone of their own race, to the point where some actually force others to be together. it could also show that no matter what they say, we don't need a boyfriend/girlfriend to be happy and if we want one, they don't have to be the same as you on the outside. Ok my excitement for a new video just went to horror O_O Me and a few friends have dabbled with how ya make something threatening in a group of dbz like characters (or just generally powerful individuals), and jeezus cripes on a pogo stick you two have hit a goldmine O_O im legit spooked by the idea, ITS BRILLIANT!

Add a former shadow for the good side and a filly for the bad. Not looking good for either side until season 9. Fingers, I mean hooves, crossed.

I can appreciate that the older Bronies and Pegasisters want a darker antagonist, to challenge the Mayne Six, both physically and ideologically. But Fans need to remember that this is still a Cartoon, whose main targeted demographic is little kids; there are just certain lines that can never be crossed. We are never going to see a villain capable of serious, lasting, physical/psychological harm (Tirek is likely the closest we will get to that, when he sucked out all the magic from everypony in Equstria), nor will we see one as leader of a "hate Group" against any of the other Races of Equestria (the Changlings, under Queen Chrysalis is the closest we will see to that). I would like to see a darker antagonist, with some depth as well, but the writer's hands are tied with they are allowed to write.

It's true the writers might be limited by what DHX and Hasbro are willing to explore, but I like to at least call attention to the ideas. I have confidence that kids are able to handle more than we give them credit. Using Majesty as an example, she needn't kill anyone but she can do some dark things to take them out of the equation for a time. I also think the writers can find ways to test the line without breaking it. It's all nebulous but it's something to watch for in future episodes.

ziggy78eog You mean we won't get to see Celestia die!? But seriously, all lines can hypothetically be crossed; that's why they're drawn. Doesn't mean they're likely to be, but lines are essential a warning not a barrier, and warnings can always be ignored, even if it is unwise to do so.

That was a gret video! It was because of the villains that I became a fan of the show. But it is no longer because of this. I still like them but this fact of reform most of them all the time kind of knocked out my first sight of them. And I would love to see a villain like the one you said!

Even though I really don't watch the show anymore, I can always rely on Silver Quill to give me a good discussion video.

While I don't disagree with anything directly, and some very great points about villains in general.... it's kind of missing acknowledgement of the context of this show in particular. This isn't a show about beating up bad guys, about clear cut good versus evil, about fighting foes. Yes there is some of that, and it is awesome, but at it's core.. it's not the foundation of the show. Friendship, Harmony, those are what drive everything. Winning over villains, showing that.. for the most part... nobody sees themselves as villains, that almsot everyone is the hero of their own story, understanding differences, working out WHY someone is like they are and working to help them, teach them, while still making clear that... there really are some people that simply cannot and will not be helped, that really are just horrible beings who never want to change, but they are in the minority. It's why the more complex villains like Starlight, Discord, even Flim and Flam work, and why so many end up reformed. Because that is what this show is about and it is glorious.

7Seraphem7 I think you're missing an acknowledgement of the even bigger picture which is MERCHANDISING. You may want to take note of the fact that the more archetypal villains like Chrysalis, Sombra and Tirek were part of arcs with heavy marketing elements(Canterlot Wedding, Crytsal Empire and Twilight's Castle toys and sets). These villains are useful because they're generally easy to write, easy to be understood by the primary demographic and make a convenient plot focus for the mane 6(mostly Twilight usually) to oppose and provide ample room for subtle and not so subtle advertising in between. That's the bottom line really. The premieres and finales are effectively branding catapults Hasbro uses every year for a different gimmick(think Rainbow Power and Cutie Mark Magic). Season 5 was definitely less ostentatious about it for the most part, more character driven, but it still formed the season's theme.

RE: Merchandising. Does not matter, that is external to the story and not part of the narrative, I only care really, and this is about, the Watsonian aspects of the story regarding it's villains. All that matters is what is IN the story.

You earned yourself a perfect 100% just for using that Darkstorm quote. Aww those were the days. A villainous reimagining of Majesty would certainly be fun and unexpected. Plus you can get the old "Nice job breaking it hero" effect when her defeat means everyone gets released including her more dangerous victims. Honesty I wouldn't mind a new version of Squirt from G1. A villain so old no one remembers how much a threat it is is always an interesting factor.

I had made a fanfiction one time where a secondary antagonist was the head of the royal guard 100 years after the main six had saved the world. He challanged Celestia's and Luna's viewpoint on prophecies, believing that a complete trust in theme was bad and lead a rebellion against there rule, meanwhile, an even darker more powerful threat looms, and the main protagonist has to decide to follow the prophecy that only he can kill it, or join the rebellion against to royal sisters and try a new means of conquering a world ending threat.

i feel like an older brother to celestia and luna could be an interesting villian, an alicorn that terrifies princess celestia. the same mare who locked her sister away in the moon. Maybe something like super nova?

I would like to see a war break out in equestria that would span a season

mason Gregory You mean a recurring villain that pops in and out of the series or one who's part of a much longer arc throughout the season? Either one is an interesting prospect but it would also mean changing at least some of the shows formula in certain episodes from episodic to more serial.

Chrysalis will definitely return a third time. First in A Canterlot Wedding, Second in To Where and Back Again and sometime later.

I totally agree! in fact the entire reason I got into this show is because of the villans.

I think a fantastic ending for a season would be the Transformers Prime approach. Season 2 concluded with the autobots nearly winning, but losing everything so the next season kicked off with a truly satisfying return and taking back their world from the decepticons
