A relationship starting on the wrong foot will never end right. Your feelings for Ben is so strong and most often these kind of feelings are just temporary. Most of all, when the time comes that Ben's wife will learn about this, it's not only the pain you'll inflict her, it's the amount of betrayal and her confidence will suffer that she will have to bear these ill feelings for years before she would be able to stand up again. Your feelings are irrelevant compared to her and your fiance's. Lastly, seek the bible if you're a christian and read the 10 commandments. I'm sure you'll know which ones you and Ben will/have violated. The words of the Lord should be enough to bring you to your senses and make you choose the right thing to do.

Been in that situation where it took me a lot of courage to face it and endure the consiquences, i may be alone now but for God only knows and only my heart knows the peace i got in the end. There are ups and downs that i was sad but looking back that i was more sad and had sleepless nights when im having an affair with a committed man cldnt equate what i have now. I feel more free.. free of not hurting anyone and free of not hurting myself more. Ive learned a lot from it and i tell u there is no easy way, but it will all be worth it. Sometimes good things fall apart so that better better things fall together.

I think the issue is no longer whether her feelings for Ben is wrong, or if she has a future with him... the issue is that she really does not love John enough, and that should be a reason for her to not to go ahead with her engagement. Whether there is a future with Ben or not, the fact that she is balking at marrying John speaks a lot about the depth of her feelings for him. If she continues with the marriage, there could also be another Ben who can sway her emotions and being married will only complicate matters more. A lot of women rush into marriage, because we all see it as a sort of Finish Line to a fairytale, and were driven by a fear that we may not end up with anyone if we dont grasp at the opportunity of being paired. However, coming from a standpoint of one who has been married for many years, I can truly say its always better to wait. Wait until you fully know the person you are marrying..whether you have the same values, goals and whether you sync in many ways. The giddy loving feelings are there when one is young...but it wont last if its not built on a strong foundation. I too, have held fairytale notions of having a ‘future’ with a married man in the past..it luckily did not end up being an affair..because God made me open my eyes to the bigger picture of whats at stake if I pursued that path. I don’t have the rights to judge her, and others like her..were all vulnerable people given a certain circumstance. But, from the standpoint of a mere listener..one thing is true: she should come clean about her feelings for John and distance herself from him. If, in the future, she realizes she loves John after all, maybe the relationship can still be saved..but like you, Joe, I agree that John deserves to know the truth.
