Bai jue loves made dillema, his loves and sacrife was really great, but who want that kind of love, too hurt for the person he loves after knew the truth. And he has to acted like a villain,the whose hurt so much was actually him. He loves her for sooo long, and the novel shang gu was aloof, indiferent, and didn't know his love for so long. And bai jue was the type who showed his love behind her knowkedge. I love this story, but this one was so angsty. I love the drama version more. In the novel, my heart really brake for bai jue, but for he was a fool.

@@Raj1Anshu he did that to save her. he spent his entire life alone, no love no feelings. then met her, found out what love and feelings are, but also had a responsibility to the god realm, so trained her to do her job. no one knew that she would die in the tribulation until tianqi found out the day before. there was no way that bai jue would have let her die, but he didn't know it would kill her and tianqi didn't ask for his help. so tianqi tries to stop it, bai jue almost kills him, then finds out she will die. and there's nothing he can do about it. he needs time, so much time they don't have. he even tries to trick her into letting the tribulation kill everyone else so she lives, but she won't let that happen. so he pauses the tribulation, figures out why shanggu is the only one who can stop it, splits his original being so that he can now stop the tribulation himself, and waits 10s of thousands of years. All the while staying close to Houchi, protecting her while remaining invisible to her. Because she had told him that if she were to come back, she didn't want to be a god, she wanted a quiet life. And that's literally what he tries to give her. He binds her powers so she lives a quiet life. What he didn't and couldn't account for was qingmu coming to life, wuhuan being a raging power lunatic, and houchi going out into the world falling in love and marrying qingmu and getting pregnant. then bai jue pops back to life, replacing qingmu (but still has every single heartbreaking memory), still loving houchi/shanggu and trying to protect her. But now there's a raging power hungry woman trying her best to kill shanggu, so he has to find a way to protect shanggu without her knowing and to push her away from him emotionally so when he dies from stopping the tribulation she won't be hurt. Not everything goes to plan, but he does his absolute best, even giving her back her memories so she won't be lost without them. He loved her so deeply, so dearly, that not only did he die to protect her, he tried to give her everything she ever wanted while also making himself into the obvious villian so when he died she wouldn't care. At most, he's the anti-villian. At best, he's the hero. Do I like him when he's playing obvious villian the 2nd half, no. Do I love tianqi the most, yes. but because of his love and sacrifice, this is my fav cdrama.
