Why is this not talked about more often There's in fact the likelihood that we have our people there, what done to reach out to them How would a sane person support the creation of Biafra on hearing this This should be talked and written about more Indeed stories matter

Thanks for your comments. First of all we recognize that all is fair in war and in love. And this documentary was not done to indict anyone but to tell our story, relate our experience as a people. Most of Bakana supported Nigeria during the Civil War and the community was punished for it. Previously, Bakana and its sister community, Abonnema had voted against the NCNC, the ruling party then in Eastern Nigeria. When the Civil War broke out, these communities supported the federal government overwhelmingly, especially to celebrate the creation of Rivers State and to spite Michael Okpara then premier of the Eastern Region who boasted that over his dead body would Rivers State be created. By the way, Rivers State was created on 27 May, 1967. Three days later, that is, 30 May 1967, Ojukwu declared secession from Nigeria and proclaimed the entire Eastern Region an independent Biafra. Bakana people celebrated the new Rivers State and paid dearly for it because the leaders of Biafra saw them as saboteurs. Bakana was never evacuated to save the people from Nigeria rather it was a reprisal for their disloyalty to the regional government. Finally, your experience is your experience and our experience is our experience. Both the federal forces and Biafran soldiers committed war crimes during that senseless war and both sides need to take responsibility and apologize rather than rationalize their atrocities. Thank you Mr. Gogo Iyalla
