It's not that bad, it's a sci-fi channel movie. it's based on a book series, that I haven't read. They did two movies, I like the first one more than the second but they're both good if you watch them for what they are which is a low-budget movie so don't expect Hollywood quality.

I’m not saying a white women or a black women can’t play the role but considering very few roles Japanese Americans get, it would have been nice to see someone of that ethics background have a chance. Genetic heritage aside, as a Japanese citizen, she IS Japanese. Because Japan, after all, is a COUNTRY and NOT a race. That said, if one is a good enough actor, with the right make up, you will never know their origins. Just like YOU assumes she had nothing to do with Japan because she doesn't look the traditional and stereotypical part of a Japan resident. How very racist of you to assume she can't be a resident of some country because she doesn't look like the stereotypical resident.

The book is so much better than this. "To your scattered bodies go" by Philip José Farmer is one of the most original sci-fi stories written. And one of my favourites. The other 2 novels are not so good. I think they are making another movie about it but again have butchered the story and characters. It's a bit like Dune where they made some not so good version before they finally made a proper version. We are still waiting on someone to come a make a decent movie for this novel.

I remember watching this on Scifi channel back in the day. I remember having a hard time following it and finding it interesting beyond the premise. I always wondered if I just gave up on it and wrote it off too quickly. NOPE! Even a recap cant make this live up to the potential of the concept or make it easy to follow/care about. As I recall, its based of a mildly popular book or movie before it. But where I think it failed is... it feels like its trying too hard to be unique. It throws the concept at you, but does not explore it in any interesting way or provide answers. Thats fine to a limited extent with a mystery, but this was not. It's a drama. It's treated more as "Lets have a bunch of random people spawn in a new world, and make the story about some cliche drama no one cares about, that is barely if at all science fiction". I bet Scifi was hoping this to be their own Lost. But COMPLETELY failed at it. If it continued as a series, maybe it would be interesting as to why the aliens brought them there, why out of all people them, and randomly some people they know, etc. But it failed to be remotely interesting before that in order for viewers to get to that point. This was just before the SciFi channel became SyFy. When it was starting to go down hill, thanks to producing BS that just did not feel like Science Fiction. The fact that the Scifi in this takes such a backseat... makes this a prime example of why the channel went to sh!t.
