After a World Dies

Ойын-сауық

Probably my favorite video I've done so far, one that's very personal to me, all about death, Minecraft, and Outer Wilds. Hope you enjoy because I certainly enjoyed making it. I was in an emotional rollercoaster playing Outer Wilds and 2b2t was a really fun topic to discuss because I'd been wanting to talk about it for a while now.

I said this once on another video about abandoned worlds. Dead Minecraft worlds have this unique quality most abandoned places don't have, they never degrade over time, stuff you left in a chest is in it's same place in the same condition, pets are still sitting in the same spot for years. The entire world is frozen in the same state you left it however many years ago you left it, like when a time traveler in a movie travels into the future, lives their life, and teleports back to the same place right after they left.

"Pets are sitting in the same spot for years." One time, I tried to calculate how many years passed in Minecraft over the course of a single year in the real world. I did it for fun/for a very complicated Minecraft character I have; I'm not really gonna talk about that character very much cuz it's a LOT of Discord shenanigans and wither/witherstorm headcanons, but I will give just brief, small details, for context. Eventually I realized that you multiply the real-world year by 72 to get the number of Minecraft years, and... as it can probably easily be imagined... the numbers get big pretty quickly. 17×72 becomes 1,224, 46×72 equals 3,312, and 301×72 = 21,672. So imagine if you're part of the ancient race that once walked the earth of Minecraft. Had a dog, beloved dog, but forced to leave it behind with your home in the Overworld to serve your local militia in the Nether. Dying late enough to witness the news and feel the impact that the first creation of the Wither had on the world, with travel back to the Overworld suddenly forbidden, though dying without being given a chance to visit home ever again. On a battlefield of Soul Sand. ....Soul sand. Soul sand. And the dog.... waiting. Waiting for you, days becoming nights and nights becoming weeks and known intervals of time becoming blurred eternity. Since Minecraft is a video game, the dog never dies on its own. Something would have to kill it. Nothing ever does. So imagine how long it's had to wait by now. For an owner who's fate is unknown to it, for an owner who's never coming back. .......Uuuuuuuunnless some idiot modern-day Minecraft player obsessed with the Wither Storm from Minecraft: Story Mode (((me))) programs a command block to "adopt" the first Soul that enters it before building one and _said Soul just happens to be that dog's owner---_ And I refuse to elaborate further lmaoooo

In the roblox game "The W" i was part of a battle between two teams that lasted for about 4hrs. Both teams had spent large quantities of time building infrastructure, fighting, sabotaging, and base building. Both teams peaked in player count at about 20 per team. The fighting was intense but eventually me and a team of players where able to build a bridge to the top floor of the enemy base (they based in an abandoned house). We were able to clear the base and defend the enemy team from regaining their lost base. Once the server declared that we won, me and my team went back to celebrate with the others then got off for the day. When I got on and returned later that week i actually found the ruins of my teams base. there was a new player using the garage as a rest spot because that was the largest part that was still mostly remaining after the base was disassembled by passing players. At that moment I understood exactly what this video means. To me it marked a time of energy and life but to all others it was just a hollow shell of concrete walls.

On the days following recent news of Russia threatening South Africa of war if they locked Putin up, I had a dream where the world ended via nuclear war, and I was one of the last few unlucky to survive. That dream filled me with a feeling I cannot describe. A mixture of dread, agony and like my insides were rotting. This topic is one I've been passionate about, quite literally, ever since I was a kid. I remember being a little boy, asking myself "how do I know if anything is real? What's the point of living if one day everything will end?". Unfortunately, those feelings lead me to have deep suicidal thoughts, supported by other traumas, that continued throughout all my life. Back then, it was a mostly innocent "I wish I would get cancer so I could die and see how it feels", though. I just hate that no answer for this problem satiates me. I have written so many pages, composed so many songs, trying to fix my existentialism. It feels helpless.

Another magnificent upload and criminally underrated! There's just something so unique about old Minecraft structures. As you've stated, other games have this exploration scripted, whereas Minecraft is not, instead it is created by the people themselves, similar to what these other games are trying to replicate but aren't quite there yet. The human mind can imagine things that we could never be able to turn into words/visuals. It is possible that we feel such a strong connection to these random structures because our minds fill in the blanks. You see a castle that is half covered in cobblestone and the other half that has been ransacked for items and materials. You think to yourself "what did this place used to look like?" "What was the purpose?" etc. You then start to connect yourself to this structure in some way, despise you never having even seen it before. The personification of buildings always gets me. Take Kane Pixels "The Life Of A Giant" series (especially the final slideshow showcasing the real mall). Seeing photos of this mall being demolished brings me an unfathomable amount of dread, I can't even begin to describe what I felt when I first watched it while on holiday. I had never been to this mall or even America for that matter, but seeing that "giant" standing alone in a dark and falling apart mall just made me tear up. Maybe these structures should be left to interpretation, as the unknown is always more intriguing that the known.

I shed a tear of happiness and tranquillity every time Cresendex preaches, and the notion and ideas portrayed are sublime. It feels like seeing the different aspects of the tapestry of the universe. If the universe is to die, the death would be a permanent cold slumber. We still dont know if the expansion will regress or not. Until then, the fate is uncertain, therefore Live your life and witness the artwork of life while its still alive.❤

you talking about minecraft worlds reminds me of this flatworld i had on a tablet where i was building this enormous palace, all completely by hand. i made it my favorite color, a deeper blue, with white accents. one day i got a new tablet and wanted to move the world onto there. well, i thought it had transferred, but by the time i actually checked, the world wasn't there. it was already deleted on the old tablet by that point. it lives on only as a memory now, i still remember what most of the finished portions looked like and what i wanted to do in the future. i could probably replicate it to a better degree if i really wanted to, but i choose not to.

I had a very similar experience many years ago on PC. When I got my new PC, a family member took my old one and wiped the HDD. At that age, I was too young to understand the importance of backing up your data, I never even thought about it in the first place. I still often think how many worlds are still lodged in the back of my brain, waiting to come to the forefront of my thoughts, brought upon by a single word, smell etc.

The more I've hiked in the woods, the more I've realized how important perspective is. Everything we know, whether it's a star, an animal or a plant, everything dies. Death Is a universal behavior we see through out every aspect of Nature. Why would all things die if it was a meaningless wasteful process? That's not how Nature functions. Maybe death, isn't a meaningless process? Maybe it's a aspect of a natural cycle that we just can't see from our current perspective? A part of me likes to imagine that the cosmos finds unique ways to convert energy. When all things were born, that energy had to come from somewhere..? I think what I'm trying to convey is that there is something freeing once you stop "Needing, demanding, requiring answers" I just happened to stumble upon this sorta peace of mind just from observing Nature and how it functions. The same way an ecosystem takes care of a fallen tree on a forest floor, or a dying star that's feeding the birth of new stars and planets. We are all tied into this unique system. Perceiving my life through the eyes of nature has a way of providing me peace. The fact that death is something all things experience, gives me peace because if you look at the ways natural systems function, something wouldn't be universally required across the board if the whole thing is a meaningless function... That perspective at least gives me some sort of sense of comfort about a otherwise unknown aspect of this circle of Life..

absolutely stellar. tbh, i'm not sure how i didn't figure out how similar 2b2t was to outer wilds myself, i was always interested in the historical/archeological aspect of 2b2t, and outer wilds is by far my favourite game of all time. to touch on what you said about ghosts in the writing and outer wilds in particular, i always found it interesting to think about how almost every single character you know is functionally a ghost in pretty much that same capacity. sure there's the distinction of the things you read being from the long-dead, should-be dead, and inevitably dead, but after you've read everything someone has to say, after they stop being a new and unique experience, they die and become a ghost too. after a while, there's very little reason to distinguish your childhood best friend or an idol you admire from the writings you find on the walls of the ruins you explore, and it really sets in stone just how lonely you are in the time loop. i feel like it's a facet of the loop a lot of people tend to forget about

When I look back on my old server, and all the builds our thousand or more players did, it's really genuinely haunting. Everything is deserted. There are so many stories that played out that even I wasn't aware of as an admin on our server. It's truly wild to look back on it and be like "Damn, we really did all this." I miss it, but there's no going back to those times.

The sign tradition really reminds me of death stranding which was one of the things I really enjoyed about the game

I find it interesting that, even as someone who believes in life after death, it has been a very crucial and strong character building experience to seriously ponder and face the possibility of permanent ending. It has helped in building confidence, remembering and expressing my love towards others, enjoying the days as I experience them. I am able to better appreciate the beauty that every day offers whether gray and overcast or bright and sunny. It is a profound process that I feel everyone should learn to face, regardless of beliefs.

It's very interesting that we reached a point where maps have been around for longer than certain players and that video game archaeology can become a thing.

I remember the first time I played Minecraft, in Firefox, in the very early days in 09 I remember the multiplayer server I first played on I remember the skyscrapers, furnished as best as could be done in those days I remember finding a small section of the original map that had a hole leading into the ground I remember building a small home there, I remember using a block of gold for fire in the fireplace I remember the first player I met, a fellow player who was building some project next to my new home and built a glass and red wool road to his project with my doorway I remember we talked, I remember we said "see you tomorrow". I remember I never saw him again. I remember the pixel art, around the edges of the map I remember the Day of Sand when the skyscrapers fell to ruin and the world was buried beneath dunes. I remember the Pyramid I built above my underground home to mark it I remember the when greifing began I remember my home torn up and flooded day after day with water, I remember learning to embed sponge under doorways to contain the spread I remember the great inverse glass skyscraper somebody built just outside my underground garden I remember the day the sky was covered in glass I remember that then it wasn't I remember when the sands cleared and I remember the water I remember I built a new monument with a small garden and tree to mark above my home I remember when my greifer got fed up and with what must have been great effort flooded my home in lava I remember building an underground to my base in the lava I remember my home being greifed many more time but the section in the lava was never touched I remember that that small section of original map spawn survived throughout it all. I remember the day I tried to log and and the server was gone. I remember sadness.

Asimov's The Last Question reminds me of "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy", they ask a similar question, and the answer is "42". Which is very similar to "Insufficient Data For Meaningful Answer". The question isn't about Entropy being reversed though, it's to do with the ultimate meaning of life the universe and everything.

Playing on the idea of the library of babel, everything that has/will ever exist is possible before it was even created, provided the numbers were to fall into place under astronomically rare and specific circumstances. In other words, the source code for your long-deleted first Minecraft would you ever made over 10 years ago still exists out there (sort of)
