Rijo Miyamoto is an Ikebana Artist (Kado-ka) and the vice-head of the Koryu Toyokai Suibokuka Temae. He was born in 1976 in Tokyo. He started learning Ikebana from his grandmother (the founder of Koryu Toyokai), mother (second generation head of the family) and Riho Miyamoto at the age of 2. He started demonstrating Ikebana at displays when he was in university. He has displayed his works at the International Ikebana World Championships and the Japan Ikebana Exhibition. He became vice-head of the family in 2009.
He has been invited to exhibitions in Tunisia, the “Janadriya” in Saudi Arabia and an international festival called “the Heart of Japan” hosted by the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. He has also held demonstrations in Moscow, Russia and other countries worldwide. He has been rewarded the All Japan Ikebana Competition Special Rewards and more. He is a member of the Japan Ikebana Art Association and Ikebana International.

This is such a delightful you tube site. While I don’t speak Japanese I do read the subtitles, but I do need to watch a second time to watch the design technique. I receive so much pleasure from the exquisite designs created. Since I live in Hawaii, it is necessary to mentally substitute flowers which would work with the design using it as a guideline. Many thanks for sharing your exceptional talents and narratives.

I retired at 70 after working in the health care field for 50 years and am now in my second year of being in the Ikebana International Society and also taking Sogetsu classes. I love it and I’m so hooked on it! People are learning about Ikebana from my facebook posts too! Thank you for your videos and you have a great sense of humor too! 🙏🌸

Akane Teshigahara Sogetsu Ikebana Flower Arrangement Textbooks 1-5 Japan. The best books. You’ll have to import them from Japan. The texts are in both Japanese and English.

You can use textbooks but it’s not difficult. It’s based on a rule of 3rds. And you can literally make an arrangement with 3 stems and 2 flowers. There’s enough videos and samples and training on KZread for you to master the art.

I love your videos. I am 33 in ohio usa learning from you and others ikebana. My local chapter has all old people in their 70s. I would feel out of place among all the old women as 33 year old man. I wonder if I should go anyway?

I"m sure they will welcome you; older people generally really enjoy having younger people in their lives. And you won't be "out of place." You're all there to learn Ikebana and you'll be inspired by the others.
