Afro Sheen Ad 7
Ойын-сауық
I think this commercial came out either 1978 or 1979. I ASSUME (I put that word in caps for a reason) when this commercial premiered, hairstyles like the Afro was played out and the Afro Sheen product line was declining in popularity.

Oh wow!!!! 🥳🥰
These 70's commercials bring back soooooooo many memories😌😁💗💝💖😍💞❤
These Johnson products campaigns ended mid 70's....I'm singing on this commercial with Ben Fernandez and Kitty Haywood (formerly of the Rotary Connection which feat. Minnie Riperton). It was regularly viewed on SOUL TRAIN, as George Johnson of Johnson Products was the major sponsor for Don Cornelius' Chicago based show. This was a Hershel Commercial production (Paul Wilson).

@@essvee86 I think this commercial is from 1979. I recall a segment break from Soul Train, they were playing Chic's "Good Times" which was release that year (1979) right before they went into this Afro Sheen commercial.

A legend
Black People need to go back to their Natural Hair and stop wearing all that fake ass horse hair trying to wear White Folks hair styles. I'm talking to all my Sistas. Go back to being Black, Beautiful, and Proud. Yes. Bring back the Afro Sheen. I could use some myself. I love this video. Thanks for sharing.

I wear my hair in a Afro and I love that round early 1970s look. I hope my sistahs leave that stringy loooooong thinning extension fake hair alone. We the Sistahs look so much better wearing our natural hair the FRO,Braids and Locs.

I think the afro is probably the sexiest hair style I've ever seen fr.
This was my favorite Afro Sheen commercial. I used to love watching this commercial during Soul Train.
Thumbs up to the person who uploaded this commercial. I love this commercial, I miss it! Now I know where to find it! I was in the 2nd grade when this was popular. I bet sally's beauty supply sells it MAYBE. They sell anything! THEY STILL sell jheri curl products. I keep playing this commercial over again!
I used to love this! Didn't realize until much later Altovise Davis was one of the dancers.
REMEMBER THIS COMMERCIAL BACK IN THE DAY WATCHING SOUL TRAIN EVERY SATURDAY MORNING.LOVED THE LADIES(R.I.P.ALTOVESE DAVIS),DUDE COULD JUST 'GO ON SOMEWHERE'(SEXY LADY DANCERS ONLY THANK YOU VERY MUCH!)
I have had natural hair my whole life and I straighten it very rarely. And I don't straighten it to "look white" I straighten it because it's easier to manage. I could never "look white" no matter how straight my hair is. I think we should be able to wear all hairstyles.

The only reason black ppl say "straight hair is easier to manage" is because we were never raised to correctly care for our natural hair in it's natural state. U never see non black ppl saying their straight hair is easier to manage then when they curl it, now do u?

.....or it's because it's actually easier when it's in a straight or stretch style. I have been natural for the majority of my life, and have always had long hair. When my hair isn't wet, and it hasn't been stretched, just combing it out is difficult. So much hair, so much length. Its a pain.
When I was a kid around the time this ad came out (79-80), I stayed up late one night after my Dad fell asleep in front of the TV....I watched a little bit of Soul Train and then this commercial came on and it just seemed so bizarre to a little white boy like me :)
I remember this commercial! Thanks for the memories-and the upload!
I remember this commercial when I was 7yrs. old!!
I feel as if this was when the natural look started going out of style.

Sadly yes and the tragedy of the 1980s Relaxer & Jheri Curls Hell Horror began. Thanks to that ERA the majority of the Sistahs have damaged their hair follicles. The man who created the Hell Horror of Jheri Curls, well he was a Caucasian man. Hmmmmm,my conspiracy of him wanting our Melanin people bald.

Memories I remember this commercial it only played when soul train came on my mother used this in our hair
Disco era
I was a kid the afro sheen commercials use come on tv when soul train was on.
LOL...Yes, I remember this!! And I ROCK A afro or curly natural everyday now for almost two years! LOve Afro sheen!
It's more about history and where there weave/braids come from, really. Besides, you can obtain the same styles with straightened natural hair that you get using weaves. There's no reason to put chemicals or someone else's hair on your head..
I like this ad.
Randyman, you're the man, brah! I subscribed!!!
I say this on a Judge Judy Utube clip and had to watch it again lol
Wow! They would have given The Pointer Sisters some tough competition!
I was only eight years then
Incredible!!
I Believe This 1 Was Made In 1979.
Now ima have to go out and get some Afrosheen
Thank you Randimay21! You're AMAZING!!!
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!
I want get my hands on this stuff soo bad
Memories
I think people (not just black people) should be able to wear their hair anyway they want to. Straight, natural, wigs, weave. If someone wants to wear straight hair or wigs/weave because they like the way it looks why shame them?
@byoung4eva1

Everyone should wear their hair the way they like, but this is JUST about black ppl, since other races can/do wear their hair how they like, without being brainwashed for generations to think it's unmanageable. It's a shame to see black women with straight weaves, because weaves were meant to enhance what u already have. How can straight hair enhance a black persons hair when our hair isn't straight? Do u see non black ppl walking around with afros and kinky weaves on a daily basis? Nope
bring back afro sheen.
I had a white lady tell me she used afro sheen during the 70's after her black friend introduced her to it in college. I guess her hair was pretty curly back then, and she needed something to maintain it...I thought that was funny to hear:)

eracism09 You would be surprised -many white ppl have thick, curly hair that requires a straightening method, if they want it straight.
when they changed the play list! notice no more wearing AFRICAN GARB~ everybody wearing white notice the medicated is in a white jar not an accident! ITS NOT JUST ENTERTAINMENT!
Was it the Third Generation Steps that did that particular commercial?
WOW !!
