Session 1
IFÀ, ÒRÌŞÀ, and YORUBA MEDICINE

Yoruba medicine has its roots in the IFÀ Corpus, a 400,000 year old revealed text. Divination, prayer, dance, symbolic gestures, spiritual baths and herbal medicine are core elements of Yoruba cosmology. Dr. Ifabukunmi O. Adewale will explain verses from the IFÀ Corpus that pertain to ORĺKÌ EWÉ (plants folkloric stories), and the ÒRÌŞÀ and human spiritual connection to plants. He will address how the plants ÀŞĘ (power) is used for healing.

HERBAL PREPARATION and the POWER of SOUND

Traditional herbal medicine is used by 80% of the African population and is recognized by the World Health Organization as a primary form of medicine in Africa. In this workshop, Baba Ifabukunmi will discuss the debilitating effects of stress, strain and overwork in conditions such as diabetes, depression, insomnia and other common diseases, and describe traditional methods for their management. He will show us how to prepare safe, simple herbal remedies for baths, in teas/infusions, tinctures and capsules. We will work in groups and will learn how to apply the power of sound and words in herbal preparation, discover how to determine the variations in strength in different parts of a plant, correct dosages and timing, as well as methods of drying, blending, encapsulating and packaging herbal preparations for our own use.
There is also a $10 class materials fee for this session
to be paid at the workshop.

Session 3
AFRIKAN MARTIAL ARTS HISTORY & PRINCIPLES

Traditional Afrikan martial systems- commonly called" wrestling" - deal with all phases of combat: striking, grappling, ground-fighting and the use of / defense against a wide range of weaponry (VERY different from the Western concept of wrestling). The martial systems of Afrika stress improvisation and efficient, combat-proven techniques. Master Instructor and Author, Baba Balogun Oyabode Abeegunde Ogunyemi Ojetade, will teach the five basic principles found in every Afrikan martial system and how to use those principles to defend yourself and your loved ones.
FREE for those attending Session 1 or Session 2.
$10.00 for all other attendees.
