It's people very upset in the comments. For African Americans to come to Africa, understand we are very straight forward and direct people. We do NOT sweep things under the rug. We are NOT going to be silent and just smile when there are issues. If you want us here, then we are going to bring that energy with us. We cannot come to Africa and have love for this great continent and stay silent with things we feel are not condusive to the development of Africa. We have AS MUCH RIGHT as any other person of African descent to be here in our mother continent.

African is a race of black people not a nationality . black/African/negroid . white/European/Caucasoid . yellow/Asian/mongoloid or a mixture like Obama(Black and White) . If it was up to me, I would say you all should be able to treat Africa like the USA where you can move freely between the states and it's nobody's business and nobody can stop you. It's a shame that our peoples egos are so fragile. The reactions of our people are like those of a spoilt child that hasn't got his way. I'm actually embarrassed that the couple even have to explain that they don't mean any Ill to anyone. The video they did when they announced their choice was very clear that they loved both and had a tough decision. Imagine the miss universe runner up fetched the winners weave or threw hands at the judges. Having said that you should always remember that those people are a small, loud social media clan that doesn't represent the general public. The general public doesn't even know they exist And they are like all social media communities, giving either super love or vicious attacks when you upset them. Secondly, and this is terrible to admit, you are stepping into beefs and rivalries that don't involve you. I suspect this aggression from your followers has more to do with the tensions between a rising Kenya and a declining South Africa than it has to do with the couples choice. Like the tensions between a rising China and a declining USA.

@@CharlieDmus there has never been any rivalry between Kenya and any African nation...that couple was disrespectful nobody was bothered by where they go.... actually South Africans and Kenyans have very strong relationships....those two countries have VISA-free travel of their respective citizens. The problem is every black American wants to air their opinions without details or information about African countries. They stay here for two weeks and boooom they have 30 pages of nonsense to air. The damage they are causing is separating Africans for nothing just to have views. That's so desperate and insensitive. Secondly, podcasts like Kenganda only allow foreigners to speak , plus a few locals who are part of their team. Do you know why? To propel certain narratives for their favour. Never have they invited a neutral African to even explain one or two things. I doubt you guys are here on a mission to separate Africa. For example in East Africa we are a huge United family. Actually here all of the 7 countries are allowed to operate without visa. We're very United here with a common language and culture. But these foreigners don't want information coz since they're raised in a toxic environment , they expect the same toxicity here. In Kenya for example even foreigners trend here carefully, our freedom allows us to deport whoever mishandles s citizen. If they don't believe they should Google. Our social media influence is the strongest in Africa....a photo is enough to deport someone. But overall we're respectful to one another

I still think most of these AA moving, or attempting to move to the "mother land" need a deep re-education, or possible re-orientation of their thinking towards the environment you are coming. - You need to learn their culture, and the way their society operates before arriving. Come in, observe, then proceed to work, and show examples, instill the standards within the environment you control, these eventually become infectious. The problem with these people coming, and now moaning/complaining is evident they hadn't done their homework, Africa is not "Wakanda", the concept of comforts and luxury you expect when you come to Africa just shows your lack of knowledge. You are not going to endear yourself to the natives if all you start doing from the get go is moaning and moaning, Africans hate that, move quietly and contribute by setting standards by example, your ethics will definitely start rubbing off on some natives

I agree with you... Truth through personal experience. On the flip side my employees and their friend circles do experience jealousy and hate because they now move differently and have a higher living standard... All because they earn a decent wage and are not exploited by some non black immigrant employer or native African. There are problems within your culture that are not our fault and you fail to address even though you recognize.

He very well might be part of that alphabet organisation, locals have no way of knowing. South Africa’s woes really started during a period when our brothers were in charge, even the envoy was a black guy - turned out to be a trojan horse. That’s the risk African countries take whenever they embrace people from other regions and cultures, and Africans will do well to not let their confidence be undermined further by the denigrating talk. It is quite prevalent in these channels, and got really bad in the months leading up to the BRICS summit, a good sign that something might be underfoot. We will still embrace, love and welcome regardless, but this reality exists.

African Culture being hash hash - From my understanding of being raised in a african household, issues are resolved in the home, in the presence of elders not on the market streets where everyone is watching. If someone offends me and I still maintain my smile, it does not mean am okay with what that person did. I will have to find time to talk to that person in and let them know about my grievences. It's complicated for people from the west to understand because being confrontaional is seen as being strong but how many relationships and friendships are broken because of those confrontational approaches? Just because someone did something wrong to you that does not make them your enemy, just like you, they also make mistakes.

But the reality is far from that. As Africans, we encourage a lot of hypocrisy and because of the power dynamics of elders and younger people and blind respect, things are never really resolved but just swept under the carpet, continuing a negative cycle. No one way is perfect but we also have to acknowledge that some African practices are detrimental to Africans and this is seen even when Africans work abroad where the culture is different. Africa needs to sometimes see criticism as fuel to do better. Proudly African here❤

The trouble with African Americans is don't take the time to understand issues. I saw Freedom Chasers in this panel say Europeans, Indians, and Chinese have more privileges than African Americans coming to Africa. That point was ignorant, you cannot get privilege by coming to Kenya Youtubing for three months and start comparing yourself with Idinas who came to EA before independence when constructing the Railway line. You cannot compare yourself with Whites who invest and create opportunities through manufacturing, and you cannot compete with the Chinese who are helping Africa achieve infrastructural milestones. Kenya has given citizenship to many groups e.g the Shona from South Africa, Bora Community from Asia, and others. However, the key to getting these privileges is in persevering, investing, and creating opportunities not skipping one nation to the next Youtubing for instance, Nairobi Java was a creation of a white guy when I was still in elementary school. Osahy JAckson's approach to coming to Africa is helping create opportunities for Africans but the other majorities are just critiquing for the sake of it.

The British Commonwealth culture is very prominent in most of Africa.

As an African, a Sierra Leonean and a Pan-Africanist, i am elated that this subject is being brought up, from Africans of the diaspora's perspective. It is incumbent on Africans of the continent, not to be so thin skinned, and listen to these criticisms that our brothers and sisters of the diaspora are giving us. They are our relatives, with the same dna, that we have, and they are looking at the festering problems that plagued the continent of Africa, through an impartial prism and without jaundiced eyes, they are doing this, not to demean us, but for the betterment of our people and the continent as a whole. I am sure that with the help of the Africans of the diaspora, and the burgeoning population of young people, coming up in the continent, the future of the continent is bright. We need our brothers and sisters in the diaspora, in order to our mindset.

Any issues I observed relating to how African Americans conducted themselves or interacted with me or us, in their own home country were for private conversations with friends and family. Admittedly, I haven’t watched much of the content on this channel and I can understand if there was frustration/distaste over how areas of the country were (perhaps unfairly) portrayed.

Many also depend on food stamps while others decide to make more babies in order to get grant money. When I used to study in USA, some young girls choose to make more babies than working for the minimum wage. In USA one had to work 2/3 even more jobs to make ends meet. Inflation there is exceedingly increasing with many Africans Americans being unable to afford medical care. Please stop lying…we know what is happening in usa as some of us studied there and briefly worked there. Africans and African life is much and much more better than African American life. Perception is almost solely on the receiver. No can’t make you look at things a certain way unless the receiver was WILLING. Black people from the states been taking all forms of criticism for centuries so we understand the harsh response to it. Plenty of us would love to go and help build and regain real authority over your land.

It’s essential sometimes we as humans need to see things from another perspective. To end, the way a person looks and does with criticism is solely on the person it’s directed too. This is stuff that’s imperative to learn as a child and also you learn this in an ultimate sense in the military. If how you package criticism is the most important then boot camp would be extremely ineffective but we know it’s the opposite.

Don’t say anything until you have spent at least two years in a new country and can confidently say that you understand the thinking behind the culture and manners. I lived in a European country and only got to understand and appreciate their culture.they emphasised assimilation a lot, and I did not understand their preoccupation with it, but by the time I left several years later I loved them the way they are, and understood a lot about them and why so many felt a certain way about them. In a world that erases culture, they staunchly hold on to theirs and it irks you when you expect the whole world to be cloned after America, until you start seeing the benefits of the things you rejected because they were too foreign.

@@pamelalynch2580 I live in Uganda. I actually love it. There are some frustrations but the love and opportunities are limitless. I'm not going to get too deep into investing with buying land or scaling out any business unless I get married or Uganda offers Right to Abode or citizenship, but providing a few local people with a life changing opportunity is rewarding and fulfilling. You would love Uganda, they will claim you and can get a little sensitive when you push back protecting your own identity and culture but it's only out of not experiencing many Black Americans. Bring a backup phone if you're a Pixel or Motorola person, a good Chromebook if that's your thing a few big hard drives, and good walking shoes.

Hall of Fame👍🏿 I have to disagree with Freedom Chasers about Black Americans being divided, and AGREE with Oshay about how we are united and support eachother. You may not see division in those other groups mentioned because they police and regulate their own. There a drunkards and bad actors amongst the Asians, Arabs, and locals. Oshay has extended an invite to me every time I travel to Kampala and he is welcome anytime in the town I live in. Mark said it himself on the Kenganda show, that it is perfectly ok for us to have a standard for our people on the continent.

Uganda has 55 distinctive tribes it has been and still a hell of work to get these tribes to live and work in harmony towards the common goal of the nation. I noticed the Ugandan Americans (either born or grew up in USA) feel the same as the African Americans on today's Repat Podcast episode because Oshay, Mark, and Freedom Chasers echoed the Ugandan Americans' sentiments: that's why we get along so well: we can relate to each others' experiences in East Africa.

The problem seems to be that most African Americans seems to be coming to Africa to criticize, point fingers and make comparisons. If it was like 1 or 5 people doing this we wouldn't be having this kind of discussion but it seems to be a general tendency among the AA coming here plus direct and confrontational style often found in African American communities can starkly contrast with the more reserved and indirect communication styles prevalent in East African cultures. While the direct approach is by no means negative, it can create misunderstandings when interacting with cultures that place a premium on non-confrontational dialogue. In East Africa, for example, impulsive speeches or outright criticism are not just frowned upon; they can be perceived as outright offensive. This isn't about avoiding the truth but rather about preserving the social fabric of the community. Similarly, in East Asia, the concept of "saving face" is deeply ingrained. The practice of subtly declining by saying, "I'll consider it," is not evasion but a form of respect. The point is not to label one method as better than the other but to argue that each approach has its own cultural rationale and value. Understanding this is critical for effective cross-cultural communication and social harmony. Ignoring these nuances can lead to unnecessary conflict and perpetuate cultural misunderstandings.

Mark just understands everything you really need to understand as an African American to survive in east Africa. He's just so perceptive and gets it. When he spoke about the cultural effect of British rule on Kenyan people he was spot on. The British cultural norms are more embedded in Kenya than other former British colonies in Africa. I'm black British and know he's right. One issue for African Americans is that they do not understand those types of dynamics. If you do not have the financial resources of other races doing business in east Africa makes it a problem for the host nation. Simple. Government officials are not going to accept a lower standard of behaviour, especially when people have this 'entitled' attitude. You're in their country. My guess is people in east Africa can find Americans, generally speaking, too brash and aggressive when it comes to handling conflict.

This is spot on, I lived in Cape Town and was told what culture do you have and I thought to myself wow so just because I am from a mixed heritage, does not mean I do not have a culture. Many Africans believe that if you are not Zulu or Xhosa or Setswana that you dont have a culture..Look how they treat people in South Africa who are called quote-on-quote Coloured. As a kenyan, I know kenyans are very welcoming and accomodating not just to AAs but other Africans as well! We already have many AAs flocking to kenya and living here and as long as they keep saying positive things about kenya, then kenyans keep reminding them of how they’re much welcomed and loved here!🙄 The issue starts when AAs try to make comparisons between kenya and other African countries! That’s when all kenyan flock to the comments section and constantly give their opinion as to why they not only think, but actually know that kenya is better and superior than the rest! 😅 You can even compare Singapore to kenya but as long as you conclude kenya is better than Singapore, then kenyans will be happy with you, otherwise they won’t accept anything is better than their country, lol 🙄 Kenyans please, we need to chill out and even if we are doing great, there’s others doing better than us!

You ain't lying Oshay. Blacks coming to Africa are far more united than they are in the west. I've seen Africans build businesses here and they are far more united than they would be if they were back home. As much as I hate to say it, there needs to be an environmental absence of where we are used to in order for us to see some form of unity. If African folks worked with only white folks, they may connect with the first African American just off of the obvious. When what you don't know is not in reach, you may go for the closest thing to it. There's A LOT we should be learning from each other.

This avoidance of direct confrontation isn't just an African thing. Asians, particularly Chinese and Japanese, do the same thing among themselves and with others.

I think Oshay is being hypocritical on the part where he claims that the Africans who went abroad could not make it here while the same could be used in his case, he could not make it in the US. Most of them went there for opportunities and I think the same is true for Black Americans coming back to the continent.

This is a very good discussion. I have some questions though: (a) Why do you think Africans in Africa are very close to and welcoming to black people from the Carribean (Jamaica, Haiti, Guyana etc) but are cautious about African Americans? I suspect it has something to do with the arrogance of Americans of which African Americans are part of. You cannot go to a whole fcking continent and try to change their way of life by pretending that your way of life, the American life, is superior to theirs. Jamaicans are loved in Africa, Afro Brazilians are loved in Africa, Haitians are loved in Africa etc-- humility / being humble can take you very far brothers and sisters from the United States (b) How can you pretend that we are ONE PEOPLE in Africa when in the United States, African Americans are NOT one people??? An African American from Alabama is not the same as an African American from Brooklyn, and even within the same city like LA, you have the bloods vs the crips gangs murdering each other even though they are all African Americans. Please be real. (c) Black unity is reciprocal. Most Africans who go to the US for studies etc are never welcomed by the African Americans in the US. America is your (African Americans) country therefore you should be the ones doing the welcoming/hosting of these African immigrants (visitors) but to my knowledge and from my own experience, Africans do not get love & or welcoming from the African Americans in the US. There is a huge division between Africans in the US vs African Americans.. In fact, there is a huge division between black Carribean people in the US vs African Americans.. there is no black unity in the US so please do not try to blame Africans in Africa for not uniting with African Americans in Africa. Keep it real. (d) This channel likes to fake and exaggerate the success of African Americans by making it look like African Americans are in Africa to save Africans. Aliko Dangote is the richest black person in the world and he made his money in Africa, there are also several African $ billionaires on Forbes billionaire list so please show some respect. Do not confuse Africans humility with being materially poor-- some people do not like to show off their wealth. There are neighborhoods in Nairobi, Lagos, Joburg, etc that would rival Beverly Hills and those are black neighborhoods unlike Beverly Hills which is predominantly white. Keep it real.

However, i don't see West Africans take things personally like East Africans when Charlemagne went on the breakfast club and talk about his bad experience with customer service in Ghana alot of media personality admit how bad it is and they were demanding things to be changed in the country they even bring on different hospitality managers to discuss the problem and how to solve.

That’s because it is really bad. Also, it justifies their massive presence in your country, gets them a lot of sympathy. East and southern African countries are not dysfunctional like the west parts of the continent, though they have their own issues too, and they love their countries and try to improve. Beating them while they are down trying to rise up is cruel.

Indians came to South Africa, Durban in particular, as indentured laborers to work on the sugarcane plantations in KZN. This mostly took place between 1865-1905. They had either five or ten year contracts and then once they were fulfilled, they had to pay a tax to the British government and then they had the choice to either get a one-way ticket on a ship to go back to India or they could take that same money and buy land in a prescribed area (due to apartheid) and start a new life. This is why there are now 4th and 5th generations in South Africa. Also, as you may already know, Indians hold education very high, and so many became well-educated and prospered. Hence, you see them doing well all over the continent now. We're mostly in South Africa and the East African countries.

Thanks for sharing this honest and educative comment . You Indians are only africans when you are physically on the African continent . The moment you are out of the continent, you don't associate with Africa in any way , whether it's a rally against racism towards blacks or any other black related issue . Anyways you are not black so I'm NOT excepting you to support us but what I'm trying to say is that you should be thankful you are still on the our continent peacefully because your masters who brought you here didn't consult us indigenous pure black africans that you should be settled here in Africa ❤

Very honest conversation. Another detriment is the issue of respect for elders no matter what, even when these elders have traded the future of African Children for a pot of porridge. Thankfully the youths are awoke now, asking questions and demanding accountability. I believe that things are changing slowly and a whole lot have to be changed to move forward

Exactly the elders are what held us back for so long as they were raised in colonialism so they have the mindset of the oppressors. To break free we must leave whatever they are saying and do what we know is right. All of the current true leaders fighting for our economic independence on the continent are young men and women

This was a really good and informative episode. How can we who are still in the states support the development of the diaspora living in Africa? I agree with you. There will be no progress until we learn to love ourselves and each other.

I've been to kenya 🇰🇪 and i met the people and many of them said that you can't get anything done there without paying money, even if someone attacks you, the police won't do anything without paying them smdh!!

In African American culture , you pull out a gun when criticized, and you want to teach others about constructive criticism. how long have you all lived in. I agree, when Africans, criticise " black culture" they get upset and say we are looking down upon them which is not the case. What they are complaining about is very valid and we should learn from each other.

Oshey Jackson, again, these subject matters on Africa underdelvepoment & un transformational are way way deeper than what you guys up there can even scratch the surface on. Millions of Africans have lost their lives fighting and dealing with those subject matters you guys up there are analyzing simplistically. You need scholars/think tanks, anthropologists, historians on Africa to get a proper understanding.
