Leaving his home town of Biddenden, Kent with a big send off from family, friends and supportive motorcyclists, Spencer crosses the English Channel to France.
He quickly rides through France to Marseille and catches the ferry to Tunisia where he starts his African Adventure.
Just spending one night in Tunisia he reaches the Libyan border where he met by 2 guides to escort him directly across the country to Egypt. After arriving in Egypt he makes his way to Cairo to arrange visa’s for Sudan. After experiencing some low-budget accommodation in Cairo he skips the pyramid tour and heads off to Luxor.
In Luxor he meets up with Diesel Films crew to film a commercial for a laser eye treatment company. After finding a suitable Nubian village as a location, the commercial is filmed and Spencer continues his journey to Aswan, where he takes the overnight ferry to Wadi Halfa in Sudan.
Once in the Sudan Spencer crosses the sub Sahara region to Ethiopia. As he journeys towards the Kenyan border, there are more and more reports of attacks on tourist in northern Kenya. At the border crossing he is advised to travel through this area in convoy. Spencer sets off in convoy but due to tyre punchers he get detached from the convoy. Travelling alone, he is targeted by three gunmen who shoot three rounds at him - hitting the bike. Spencer rides off until the rear wheel collapses and takes refuge in a small village. In a state of shock and the bike immobile Spencer is rescued by his friend Carl who commandeers a pick-up truck to take him and the bike to Nairobi for bike repairs… and time to contemplate whether he will continue with the journey.
This series follows the remarkable journey of adventure motorcyclist, Spencer Conway, as he circumnavigates Africa unsupported through 34 countries, covering a staggering 55,345 km.
This monumental undertaking tested Spencer’s physical endurance, challenged his determination and commitment and ultimately put his life at risk.
Without a support vehicle or team, Spencer’s low budget, light-weight approach meant he was forced to sleep rough, eat when and what he could when the opportunity arose and navigate by only a rough map and local knowledge.
Besides numerous bureaucratic hassles, extreme conditions and a near fatal shooting, Spencer overcomes the difficulties and experiences the beauty of Africa: from deserts to jungle, and savannahs.
This series records his remarkable journey, capturing the essence of the freewheeling adventurer and intimate moments of euphoria, exhaustion and fear.

Nico's Ride me five should be a guide to anyone who plans a journey like this in Africa.
Simply use the highway from moyale to Nairobi, tarmac and enjoyable
you went from moyale without following the tarmac? which year was this shot in?
He could've stuck on to the main highway to avoid bandits
Sorry for the misadventure but Kenya is way more friendly and beautiful than this series depicted. Interesting how the tarmac disappeared while in Kenya and suddenly reappeared as u left. Kibera is a fraction of Nairobi that has alot to offer. This seems another old school stereotypical production but hey! Great effort
Why didn't he use the highway, it's a beautiful tarmac road from Moyale to Nairobi, he wouldn't have met the tribesmen
What's with the lack of helmet riding? Especially offroad. One mistake and you would've cracked your skull open. Family was worried, rightly so. Glad you rode alone.
you are giving a very bad image of Africa...from Moyale to Nairobi there is a very good tarmac road, why dint you use it?. Africa is developing and it saddens me what you people choose to show a the bad side each time.
Hihii those Brits, it's so Lord Dunsany 😅
We need more outback truckers please
This is not a solo adventure.
Luckily I saw this video, I was planning a road trip from South Africa Johannesburg to Nairobi Kenya, if this is how barbaric is the bandits on the road ,I am better off in my country 😢😢😢

This guy is choosing to use very weird routes which aren't used by the public I don't know what are his intentions...Follow this french man called kino Yves.... travelled from France using the same route with a bicycle.. totally different stories.

He's choosing to go off-road from the main highway..I don't know why.
LOL "I have two [teenage girls], and it's going to be really tough [to spend a year away slagging about on my motorcycle.]. LOL. LOL. LOL. I have one. LOL. Good one. It's more noble than drinking, but still a good one. Hope you enjoyed your "sacrifice." LOL.
And how is this a solo ride when you have a cameraman with you
Must be cool riding around in the deserts in a BLACK! motorcycle dress.........
Make sure you speak softly and carry a big stick

Just wondering which insurance company this biker used to cover all countries of Africa
Was bribes even necessary a mention 🤣🤣🤣
Hy love to read I'm in RSA
Insulting your escort by saying they need a dentist, saying the Sudanese are very black. Mocking the other riders you meet by saying their small tent could fit “20 Germans in there and maybe 60 Ethiopians”. Hopefully they don’t watch this because if it’s not you who will get shafted the next time you go there, you’re giving an extremely bad image to other riders. Disgraceful.
I’m kind of offended and I don’t even live in any of those places lol I guess there’s political correctness and then there’s reality though so, 🤷♀️
Good luck on your adventure. Keep your head on a swivel, those F#{>er’s have no respect for life. Stay safe!
Riding with no helmet and in t shirt - lost credibility after 10 mins in. Good luck 👍 unsubscribing now 👋

I never even lasted that long, it was like watching a BBC documentary.
