She can just sit without movie her body and just dance with her face, her Expressions r unmatched. The dress she was wearin was one if the heaviest dresses in the movie, which lot of work on it, her jwellery was heavy as well makin dancin a bit hard. Then we hv a heartbroken lover who is drowning in alcohol with his eyes doing all the talkin. Its a classics cult movie thts made around 79 times thru the years based on a book.

The man, Devdas is heartbroken because the love of his life (Paro) has been married off to someone else. His friend Chunnilal, takes him along to a brothel where he meets a renowned courtesan (Chandramukhi) who falls in love with him. This song depicts Chandramukhi's first meeting with Devdas. her song says "I have been murdered by love" and it reminds him of Paro which is why he looks so sad. I would recommend watching the movie but in this scene, Chandramuki made a bet with the guy who had the moustache, that Devdas wouldn't come that night. They made a bet that if he didn't she'd dance and wear those bells he brought her, but if Devdas did show, the moustache guy would have to wear them and and she stated she wouldn't dance until the candle burned out. Devdas comes in right as she was going to give in, so that's why she tossed the bells at the one dude. As for Dev, he's still heartbroken over Paro and her wedding to another man that he's drowning himself in alcohol which is toxic to his body. However, when he sees and hears the parade for Paro, he's so distraught he just wants to numb the pain. Chandra is smitten with Dev, but bc she's a courtesan Dev sees her as beneath him initially, but overtime he realizes he was being harsh and tells her that in his next life, if they meet again, he won't deny her because she took care of him even though he wasn't always kind. The movie is long but it's worth sitting through so have plenty of snacks and give yourself a few bathroom breaks but I think you all would enjoy the full story which puts everything in context.

The sound of the reed flute playing in the distance beginning at 5:13, as a wedding procession passes by, evokes such a profound despair. Which haunts him, takes him into an abject abyss of deepest regret for the choices he has made and can never take back. Such an incredibly heart-wrenching moment.

exactly! almost everyone who has reacted to this song missed the fact that he was in pain, rather than being seduced by her. and well it's not their fault as they're unaware of the context. but the beauty with which this scene has been directed is immaculate!! the beat drop at 5:41 is so symbolic of the chaos in his soul... i can't stop admiring either this song or the movie, what an evergreen masterpiece!!

Exactly brother. Esp Indian classical dances are some of the greatest intellectual achievements of humanity. Its Kathak in this song. Other classical dances are also mind-blowing esp Kuchipudi & Sattriya.

You should watch this movie it's really a masterpiece... It's really famous in India and the music is on another level...❤

And you know what's the most difficult part of the dance?! It's the weight of the outfit i.e., lehanga 😻 It's 30 kg (66 pounds) 😂 along with those heavy jewelleries. It's not easy to even stand in such outfits... but they gotta spin around and be graceful while dancing. *Being graceful* is the main aspect of Indian dancing.
