Africa Twin - Affordable Suspension Upgrade with Hyperpro Springs

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Full installation of the Hyperpro fork springs and rear shock spring on the 2017 Honda Africa Twin.
By the way, if you've contemplated Touratech Springs, they are just rebranded Hyperpro springs. The installation should be identical.

    Nicely done. I did the same to my 2016 Africa Twin, using some stiff Racetech springs for the forks. It made a huge difference in handling for me.

    It’s the single best mod you can do for the AT if ride sag is unattainable for you as a rider. No more sending energy through the frame and body. Its not just for off-road….so much saver on pavement too.

    Hey, thanks for the comment and inquiry. I am 225lbs and there was zero chance at setting sag correctly and travel length was lost from the get go. The benefits of the Hyperpro springs is immediately noticeable just taking bike off center stand and moving the bike around in the garage. The whole bike feels like it has a core six pack with the ability to hold and transfer forces correctly. There is a lot of preload left too, giving you the ability to load up and go on trip where you come back with a beard. The intended travel length is now available, (on top and on bottom), and the progressive part is at the end of stroke keeping violent forces from getting into frame as it stiffens at the end. Action is improved and controlled unless you go full Evel Knievel of course. The bike even looks better on side stand, as it is not squatting under the added weight of the mods. Slow Speed maneuverability and off-road technical: Absolute improvement! When you twist the throttle, power is delivered to the rear wheel; instead of spending time expanding the forks, compressing rear spring and then getting power to the wheel, then reverse process when braking. The Hyperpro recommended settings seemed dialed in too. Please comment if you have additional questions that were not answered.

    Towards the end of the video, we demonstrated that the Hyperpro springs had the option to raise the suspension by about 20mm. To the eye, that's one of the biggest changes from stock. When it comes to riding and handling, there is a significant change. We are going to put out a full review/feedback video later down the road when we get enough testing and footage.

    Hey, thanks for comment. We plan to do a follow up video this spring/summer on the swap. I am very happy, as the suspension now has the room in pre-load to set sag for me and still leave room for loading up for a long trip. Before I was maxing out preload unloaded.

    Correct me if I'm wrong but you filled the fork leg to 180 from the top, the Honda manual says 95 ml. Watching you stick the Tool into the top of the fork I could tell that the amount of tube down into the collar was twice what it should be

    We really appreciate your comment. You are correct, changing out the front spring is what moves the needle the most. Hyperpro sales springs individually and as kits, making the option to add the rear a no brainer for me. So much more flexibility with preload when loading the bike and/or 2 up. Changing out the rear is harder and where things can be a little dicey. Please have done by shop or a method that is suitable for your safety.

    More videos will be made, but they take time to film and edit. Hyperpro sends settings out based on the springs or kit you chose. Meaning my setting numbers could be different as I picked a kit that raised the bike 20mm. Please reference our video on setting up factory settings and adjust number of turns and clicks based from the Hyperpro recommendations for your kit or front springs.

    Nice video! I wonder if the +20mm HP kit springs should exactly longer on 20mm than oem springs or not? Ive just make the same change to +20mm HP kit, but there is still 870 mm of seat height. It should be 890, I guess. Also my HP springs kit are the same length as oem springs, I am not sure it is right. Could you please check you seat height? Thank you and good luck!

  • @1LiterADV

    @1LiterADV

    To my knowledge, spring lengths are the same. Spring rate is different and the height comes from the spring preload setting. I have many adds that would effect my OEM seat height.

    What year and model do you have?

  • @1LiterADV

    @1LiterADV

    Жыл бұрын

    If you have a 16-19 year model, and the fork is assembled correctly; you should have (15) full turns available from full soft or full hard on the pre-load. 19mm nut and typically blue. Standard position is (5) A/A2 (8.5) D/D2 from the full soft position. Also you should have (3+) turns available on the rebound adjustment from full soft or full hard. Adjustment is dial in center of pre-load. Standard position (2.25) turns from maximum position. If you don’t have the (15) and (3+) turns available, fork is assembled wrong and you need to remove the caps and verify they are set full soft and have locking nut down 10.5mm on damp rod.

    The kit that I installed was the one that increases height 20mm. It’s a much Stiffer spring that allows you to ride fully loaded or empty and have preload range. I don’t have a weight I can give you. I’m 225 lbs and pack for moto-camping. I dial up preload when heavy, ride, unpack, and dial back preload when empty.
