Prof. Louis Gates, I've watched all your series, very interesting. However, the history of Africa can never be complete without mentioning the great Kingdoms of Bunyoro Kitara and Buganda! The Bantu clearly originated from around the great Lake Nnalubaale aka Victoria. You need to delve deeper into the Great Lakes regions where these two mighty Kingdoms are. They're much older than the Zulu, Asante or Swahili States, by far. They're possibly as old as the Abyssinian Kingdoms of old. I invite you to research more on them.

Bantus migrated from west-Central Africa. There’s a long history prior to settling in Eastern Africa

Dr Gates, I have had a hard time watching some of your work. I get pushed away at times when I’m learning those critical things none of us knew until recent years, particularly that EVERY HUMAN ON THIS EARTH WHO HAS EVER LIVED, LIVES NOW AND *WILL LIVE* has come from a SINGLE GROUP OF TENACIOUS SURVIVORS IN AFRICA. Hence, my ancestors are AFRICAN like yours. I love this because of what it means for our future. That ALL of us white folk have the same origin as you is such a tool for bringing EVERY human together. My ancestors had black skin and features. I am white, Italian & Danish. Those early humans are MY ancestors. I have immersed myself in documentaries such as these because it’s a new reality that I NEVER was taught (I’m 60) and there is something about this that makes me stronger somehow less “fragmented”. Now, in this particular series and others, I have felt “apart”. Examples in this series from the Origins episode: you sit with a white archaeologist looking at precious artifacts & grave goods. You focused on the “Afro comb” stating, “so the brothers & sisters....used an Afro comb just like we do today” and spent time on. Also, you say in amazement, “so a *black woman* ruled & conquered......” ! I notice he re-states or summarizes what you are moved by, but it is from the perspective that these were “black folk”. No, Dr Gates, change that narrative to include how “a *woman* was a warrior ruler who conquered ---“. The way you said it made me feel like that warrior queen lady wasn’t MINE to be proud of. There’s a WAY, I’m not sure how but we can as educators be crafty and opportunistic to spread a HEALING & INCLUSIVE narrative which is, by the way, factual. Use this as a strategy to hook us into a COMMON pride and a COMMON ORIGIN. Not to make me “feel better” or take cultural credit for your culture. The better strategy is to bring us white folk, Latino, indigenous and Asian folk in to 1 circle. We can’t afford the overlapping rings right now when there’s so much rife. We can only move forward as ONE. Yes, we all have our own path AFTER Africa and that is already celebrated. Hopefully, my point is made and Dr Gates thinks it’s at least a fair one!

Truth crushed to earth will rise again. For centuries europeans have printed tons of literature (his-tory) about the history of Afrika to either appropriate the achievements of black people (such as in the case of Kemet) or to reduce the role of afrikan in the development of civilization as being insignificant or even to deny that black people had the mental capacity to achieve great things. In correcting this misrepresentation of black people by european his-torians we have had for over a century great afrikan scholars (J.A. Rogers, Dr Anta Diop, Dr Yosef ben Jochanan, Dr Ivan Van Sertima, Dr John Henrik Clarke, Chinweizu, John Jackson among others) who have published a more accurate account of OUR-STORY. Black my story NOT his-story. The problem with you Louis Gate is that your attempt in your six(6) series documentary of Great Afrikan Civilization is a "europeanized version" of Afrikan people history and culture. Only black people who are uninformed about the history of afrika would buy into your "white sponsored" documentaries about afrikan civilizations. Furthermore, you have consistently proven yourself to be an agent and apologist for the white establishment, hence your mis-leading documentary on the so-called "afrikan slave trade" (another white sponsored project) which was nothing more than an attempt on your part to exonerate the europeans of their race war (racial chattelization of the black race) against black people and to shift the burden for the enslavement and the subsequent centuries of racial chattelization, colonialism and apartheid on to the shoulders of victimized afrikans. Even Thomas Jefferson (a slave-driver) who was involved in the racial chattelization of black people in america has been more honest than you Louis 'Skip' Gate in giving a more accurate account and description of the destructive enterprise (european chattel slavery system) imposed on afrikan people in which he made the following accusations against George III of England in the Original draft of the US Declaration of Independence : " he has waged cruel war against human nature itself, violating it's most sacred rights of life & liberty in the persons of a distant people who never offended him, captivating & carrying them into slavery in another hemisphere, or to incur miserable death in their transportation thither. this piratical warfare, the opprobrium of infidel powers; is the warfare of the Christian king of Great Britain. determined to keep open a market where MEN should be bought & sold he has prostituted his negative for suppressing every legislative attempt to prohibit or to restrain this execrable commerce: and that this assemblage of horrors might want no fact of distinguished die, he is now exciting those very people to rise in arms among us, and to purchase that liberty of which he has deprived them, by murdering the people upon whom he also obtruded them: thus paying off former crimes committed against the liberties of one people, with crimes which he urges them to commit against the lives of another. Mr Gates those of you (agents of the white establishment) in the black community in america who are always willing to assist the europeans in distorting Afrikan people history will ALWAYS fail because the TRUTH about the STORY of Afrikan people has already been told by the brave and courageous people among us J.A. Rogers, Dr Anta Diop, Dr Yosef ben Jochanan, Dr Ivan Van Sertima, Dr John Henrik Clarke, Chinweizu, John Jackson among others.

What a joke. Asia? Yes. They had great civilizations. Have some still. South America, sure. The Middle-East can lay claim to Egypt. (Yes, I realize technically the country itself is attached to the NE corner of the continent of Africa), but honestly, you guys are just trying to convince yourselves that a "great" civilization once existed when in actual fact, if it did, there would be more proof and self-evident latent artifacts and writings on it.
