AFR's 'super porter' low buck LS 3 head

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this, PowerTec 10, episode 145, DV showes how the low buck AFR LS3 Enforcer heads can be home ported by the average 'do-it-yourself' guy with even regular dexterity skills. This video covers just about all aspects of head modifications including such things as port velocity, energy, port efficiency and swirl. There is also a special offer on the flow bench program DV used for this. It's a 20 day free trial offer so you can see the benefits for improving your porting skills pro or otherwise. Just call co-author of the program, Stan Weiss on 215-852-7300.

Nice! I'm still patiently waiting on the cam recommendations. You mentioned new constants for the LS heads a few episodes ago. I'll patiently wait for those. My best guess, using your information, for a heavy 3/4T 4x4 truck, using these heads as they have been modified, is a 270/274(seat duration), 110 LCA, 106 ICL, 600ish lift. I'm thinking of keeping the exhaust as easy up and down as possible. Should end with a 52* overlap. A little hotter for a truck than may be necessary, but would still be tons of fun. Proper engine and trans tuning, she should be a beast on the street, and get me and my dirt car to the track in no time. I do have a feeling you'd recommend something a touch smaller, say 260/264 (seat duration) at 108+4 though. We shall see. My truck has the LS3 head on it now (L96 engine), but will receive the AFR transplant soon.

Wow, I did this little swirl once and sold the head to someone, he then ground it mentioning there was something od in my porting... I hope it's what I think, it means I had good intuition.

Computational Fluid Dynamics is pretty sophisticated. Can near-state of the art CFD help show where to modify ports such that things like cfm, velocity profiles, port energy, port energy can be reliably calculated? Surely F1 and the OEMs do this.

I don’t know it’s real easy to have cfd not match reality. I bought a turbine housing that was supposedly cfd designed for peak performance. It was absolute trash. I don’t know what conditions they modeled it with but they clearly were wrong as the stock design beat their optimized one by 10%. I have since done a bunch of grinding and welding on it and look forward to testing it again to see if my experience can’t get it 10% better the other way.

Exelent video again! It is so informative when you give real tips where to port and how. Thank you again! I have seen lot of your videos and as Marine chief engineer I know litlle bit of engines, I many times understand that what you are talking about is correct. There is so much BS out there in internet. Friend of mine is coming to holidays from Boston bringing me bounch of our books to Finnland. I looked at your video about porting Turbo charger, I couldn´t find part 2 of this video from KZread? Was it ever done or I just cannot find it? With best regards: Hannu Hakkarainen

David for over 10yrs i wanted to see a shoot out between youself and smokey yunick what i mean is ports done the way he describes in his book vs the way you do it ,why your way is better and why his approach was defficent. He said the last 1/2 inch before the seat should be perfectly straight up to first seat angle so the air hit the back ofthe valve straight on ,this question has been nagging me since the last husband i had. So if u could take up.this challenge i and others would be very grateful thanks tell stan hi for me i am betty goad

I would think a big problem to that Smokey approach would be very few heads are cast that could accommodate an inch of straight before the seat. Those would be far taller heads than one typically sees.

With boost do you need to worry about velocity or just size of port since air is pressurized.I would think same port job just bigger so more air can come in
