AFI Top 25 actors, according to the American Film Institute

Ойын-сауық

The American Film Institute was introduced by President Lyndon B. Johnson in order to preserve the legacy of American cinema and has been curating definitive lists of the greatest films, directors, genres, and actors.
Following my video on the top 10 Male actors in the AFI’s “best of” list. Today I am expanding it out to the top 25. Please take a look at my previous video to see the top 10. This video is on the next 15. I remind you all again this is strictly the AFI’s list, not my opinion. Please by all means let me know what you think and what your list would be in the comments. Like the top 10 list, it is surprising how many of the next 15 have made westerns. I’m sorry to say I don’t know the method or reasons these actors are chosen, this is an AFI process.

It's 5:30 am and I'm sitting here at my computer drinking my coffee, watching these vids one after another. Happy as a clam just watching actors I grew up with,..with a small grin on my face. I'm not bothered who's at the top of the list. They're all wonderful. Thank you for all of these.

Lancaster in The Crimson Pirate, one of his earliest movies, remains one of my favorites, a great swashbuckler. Don't get to see it much now. An underrated actor I've always enjoyed, maybe even if not exactly deserving to be on this list, is Frank Sinatra. He could hold his own with the great actors he frequently starred with.

I think they are all number one! Look, how many times have you seen films with these actors and thought, my goodness what a great performance! It’s so difficult to rank them!

A favorite Kirk Douglas film of mine is, “The List of Adrian Messenger” (1963). Directed by John Huston, and Starring Krik Douglas, Dana Wynter, Clive Brook, and George C. Scott. With (disguised) cameos by Robert Mitchum, Tony Curtis, Burt Lancaster, and Frank Sinatra. (And Kirk Douglas wore many disguises too.) As always, thank you so very much for the videos.

Here's a brief on how AFI chooses these top X actors/actresses: AFI defines an "American screen legend" as "an actor or a team of actors with a significant screen presence in American feature-length films (films of 40 minutes or more) whose screen debut occurred in or before 1950, or whose screen debut occurred after 1950 but whose death has marked a completed body of work." In other words, the list generally honors actors recognized for their contributions to classical Hollywood cinema.[1] Jurors selected the final lists from 250 male and 250 female nominees.

Most are quite valid. I do have problems with someone like James Dean. Yes I know...he played in a few magnificent movies. He had great promise. But his early death does not warrant a place on this list. Just my view though

I think Burt Lancaster’s first film, The Crimson Pirate, where he did all of his own stunts, ranked among his best. This was just after he left the Circus.

Duvall doesn't qualify under AFI's criteria, as he made his first film in 1962. AFI restricted nominees to actors whose film career started prior to 1950.

This could have been a nice video but the narrator has anemia and he was so boring and lifeless that I stopped watching.
