Afghanistan's Billion Dollar Drug War | 101 East

Ойын-сауық

Afghanistan's Billion Dollar Drug War - 101 East
It is the frontline of the war on drugs - and it is a battle authorities are losing.
Afghanistan's poppy fields, which feed the habits of drug addicts worldwide, are thriving, with cultivation of the crop hitting record highs last year.
With NATO troops pulling out and local law enforcement agencies ill-equipped and underfunded, production looks set to increase even further.
The number of Afghan addicts is soaring and with the Taliban funded by the drug trade, security fears are paramount.
101 East travels to fields where poppies grow and meets the local officers responsible for stemming the flow of drugs to the world.

Here is what they aren't explaining. Afghanistan has 4 large cities. Kabul which you see here had 4.4 million people. Herat out west has 638,000, Mazar e Sharif has about 500,000 and Khandahar the population is 614,000 at the most this city population only accounts for 6-7 million of a population of 38 million. So most of the population doesn't live in the cities and this is one reason why. So most of the population probably does not have this problem. Also all of this Opium and Heroine is going to Europe not the US or Kabul. this is just the leftovers. As the British were able to successfully limit Opium getting into Europe and so more of the local population began to be targeted by Traffickers. Now that Brittish are gone the Opium and Heroine traffick leaving has now increased and local Opium is now probably more expensive.

It's still mostly a beautiful country this is in the big city with 4.4 million people. Most of Afghanistans population lives in spread out rural populations that grow but don't used their drugs.

Now there in Afghanistan and it is now the biggest producer heroin. Seems to me where the U.S.military goes the heroin trade comes right behind them to be protected and supported by them. From my prospective, if the farmers get sustainable alternative than they will never cultivate opium. Just cash for work and other short term programs will not work. unemployment is big challenge, less return of other crops as compare with opium is another problem, cheap price of vegetable, fruits, and grain.

The facts are that 12 years ago, Afganistan had reduced opium production to almost nothing. Now it's 150% higher than at any time in the country's history. What has changed in that time period to cause this rise in production? The most glaring change is the presence of United States troops occupying the country. Vietnam was the largest producer of heroin in the world. After the US left it dropped to almost nothing..Maybe if the US leaves Afganistan the same thing will happen there?

Life is about survival and the more of us they kill, the less wealth they have to spread around and share. Kill off you competition and its more for the top %2. The super rich have no desire to share and spread around the available wealth. Greed is in charge of mans minds and soul. The more you feed the more they breed and the competition for what is available becomes fierce. A ton of money is being made in starting wars and killing people. Just like they can make people sick and get super rich curing them. People are just tools and pawns the smart and the rich rulers use for their own amusement and money fountains and can be sent to die once the order is given. We are just a number and only the rich matter. Money talks not people. The sick sadistic rulers of this world have no problem destroying their own planet and all its living things in order to try to win a war. That is how evil the human cancer virus is. God should be ashamed of himself for creating man in the first place. The devil has the upper hand at this time. We have destroyed countless ecosystems and over 900 species. Soon it will be our turn to be extinct.

Afghanistan is a country, not a person. It can neither want the drug trade nor want to stop the drug trade. Those who profit from the drug trade, especially those with little other choice will engage in it. Those that profit from fighting the war on drugs will fight against it. If we want to limit the misery caused by drugs, we need to regulate, tax and medicalize the use of all but the most lethal drugs. The revenue from drug use would easily pay for adequate rehab and research into effective treatment to allow everyone who wants to stop using drugs to do so. Regulation would allow those who use drugs to minimize the harm they do to themselves while they use, and encourage people to use the safest type and form of drug possible. Society would be protected from the fairly small percentage of people who are determined to use drugs indefinitely, as the users would not have to engage in petty crime to support their habits. Drug use would not spread as addicts would not have to recruit new users as customers, to pay for their habit. The massive police resources and powers presently wasted on the war on drugs could be redirected to preventing crimes against children, and funding excellent programs to prevent child poverty and ensure good prenatal care and early childhood education. this would have a far higher impact on rates of drug use than the war on drugs- which actually increases rates of drug use.

Thank you finally another sane person exists our drugs laws are a joke they were adopted by politicians to harm the huge influx of immigrants at the time just look before these laws were enacted you could buy a syringe heroin & cocaine out of a sears catalog & not once did America ever see anything remotely close to the current opoid heroin epidemic started directly by Purdue pharma & the drug OxyContin & it’s weird the taliban stopped poppy production we invade the region tale over & back home we crack down on pharma & all of a sudden we’re in the midst of the deadliest drug epidemic that mankind has ever seen coincidence or is it? Our drugs laws directly creates black market that allows terrorists cartels & homeland streets gangs to thrive on actually they all depend on our drug laws to exist because drugs trafficking either majorly or indirectly funds all these organizations our drugs laws cause major harm & it’s obvious we’re in a epidemic these laws are ineffective drug use has risen FACT drug purity has risen FACT drugs are more available FACT that doesn’t sound like a success Venezuela decriminalize drugs & have seen results better than we could dream of & they didn’t spend anywhere near a billion dollars either END THE WAR ON DRUGs already
