    One thing that bothers me is why the aim should be to look "expensive"? Why not just "nice", "beautiful", "sophisticated"? I see and hear the word a lot in the interior design community and I could easily imagine it makes people feel bad for not having loads of money. Isn't it something we could be more aware of? Thanks for your work!

  • @miyounova

    @miyounova

    well, sophisticated has for very long only been accessible to people who had a good amount of money, precisely because places like (current) Ikea didn't exist. When it becomes totally normal to be able to get sophisticated-looking items for aa low budget, then the expression "looking expensive" won't be needed.

    @Poppy Seed Sophistication is most often paired with high society, which is made of people who make a lot of money and have expensive furnishings. Sophistication and cheap are not normal companions. Walmart is cheap, and most of the decor looks cheap and doesn't pull together nicely. Crate and Barrel is expensive and helps make a home look magazine worthy. No magazine has Walmart-like decor. Except Walmart.

    One of my favorite clutter hacks is just having a single drawer where you can throw in ANYTHING you don't want to see laying around. A box, or whatever item you like also works great. Just remember to go through it every few months to declutter and possibly get rid of unwated things (preferably through donating)

    Yes! I have a round cloth hamper in every main room. Anything that doesn’t belong in the room gets tossed into it. Do I want a hamper on every room? Not really… but it looks 10 times nicer than clutter everywhere.

    I used to dream about that Langfjall office chair, because of an artist on KZread who has a lovely home office and she has that same chair. I tried it at the store and it felt great at first, but when I got one and started using it at home, I realized it actually hurts my tail bone! The stitching that goes down the middle was also very tight creating a ridge that made it even more uncomfortable. Hit or miss... Works for some people, but here's my experience in case anyone loves the look of this chair too. I sold mine. :( Saving this video for when I can afford a home makeover. I love IKEA and don't mind if my house looks like a showroom, in fact, I wish I could get that moody lighting, and cozy, tidy but not "sterile" looking. I live for rugs and pillows and can't wait to get these for our bedrooms and sofa.

    3:35 as someone with ADHD and general issues with keeping my house clean let alone tidy trays or just marked areas really help! Just be sure to have the tray be large enough for the intended use and be mindful of the sides Another is friction - for me cupboard doors are enough so, for example, I have open trashcan and drying rack that is for most my plates and glassware. I get that open shelving can be messy looking but if you limit it to the items you use weekly it isn't that bad and way better than the alternative for me

    It's insane how much cheaper Ikea is in Canada vs Australia. I was finding these prices a bit low, because there are some items I've looked at before. So I checked. That lighting strip you put under your sideboard, which costs 20 CAD (which I'm guessing should be under 23 CAD with tax) costs 47.85 CAD, equivalent of course, in Australia. It's aboslutely insane. It's close to 25 CAD difference for the exact same, mass-produced item! And GST in Aus is not that high, just 10%. Mental. (Other than that, loved the video as always!)

    You're right about that. We pay more for everything here which sucks. But that's only because we are so far away from the rest of world. Of course that can have its advantages (hello Covid border closures) but it does nothing for those of us who want to buy goods in the variety that the rest of the world has.

  • @miyounova

    @miyounova

    @@audrablue515 no, that's a often a myth. When things are manufactured in China, like in the case of ikea, they need to be shipped to Europe, Canada or Aistralia. If anything it's probably a bit closer to Aus. We pay more because there's not enough competition and because people here often forget how we pay a premium "just because".

    Love the video 👏👏👏👏👏. I have some of the items that you mentioned ☺️. Just a little tip that I like to use, when buying the pillow inserts buy one size up, it fills the cover better and makes it look even more plush and luxurious. I need to pick up a few table lamps, we have a large open plan kitchen/living/dining and thankfully multiple times of lighting but I think that we could still benefit from extra lights. I also love to light candles, especially in winter, it gives a soft organic light that I find cozy and relaxing.

    There are great pillows with synthetic filling that are plumpable and not stiff at all! Just go for higher quality and chose pillows with down-like synthetic fillings, found in the bedroom-department rather than cheap cushion pads. Feather cushions almost always involve animal cruelty so they are not recommendable. As for the size, if you have a 50x50cm cover you can use the 50x60cm standard Ikea sized pillows with soft filling no problem.

    I think the chop look makes the cushions look messy and like you've just thrown them on the couch without any care. When it comes to cushions, I much prefer them to look square and neat

    Sometimes there are cheaper options of designer furniture with very decent quality. I have a fake Eames chair and it's not far off from the original at all. Only cost 1/3

    Going to the description to find links to the products talked about in the video but instead finding affiliate links to premium furniture not talked about was pretty disappointing.

    Always so funny to hear English speakers pronounce the IKEA product names. IKEA names a lot of products after places in Sweden, but sometimes they make up things that we as Swedes don't even understand 😂

    The map at the start explains on a geographical level why IKEA's HQ is in Delft, the Netherlands. Just look at where the centrepoint +- is.
