Affinity Designer Tutorial - Using Layer Effects for an Inflated 3D Effect

In this video, I create effects similar to Adobe Illustrator's Inflate. Affinity Designer has no single function but you can create similar looks by combining the layer effects 3D and bevel.
I created 5 different examples - from simple shapes to more complex designs. There are a lot more ways to use these effects. Play around with them and use them on your own designs.
It's a lot of fun!
Keep in mind, that these are Affinity Designer-specific effects and won't export to other vector formats without pixelation. Even though you apply them to vector shapes, they are essential bitmap/ pixel effects.

Very cool ideas, thanks for sharing! I always thought of bevel as one of those left-over 90's effects (not that there's anything wrong with that), but you seem to have gotten some really great results with it.

It is an effect that gets used too much and quite often in the wrong way. It can easily look tacky but it can also give you quick results that look good. It's a fine line but definitely worth playing with.

Same, but it got quite a renaissance with the acidgrafix phenomena that was the hottest trend on IG two years ago. Especially chrometext.

Yes... I have had too many questions about them in the Affinity Designer groups I manage. It was time to make a video. Next step, attempt the same in Inkscape without breaking the tool or my machine in the process :)

Did you know if you click fx logo the square in the layer you can just drag it into the others instead of the menu bar

I do... but it's a v2 exclusive feature and this video was recorded in v1 as the key effects [bevel and 3D] work just the same in v1.

What's not working? Is it the KZread display of the video [which seems fine as it has been viewed over a thousand times] or the content [which seemed to work when I recorded it in Affinity Designer v1]...
