    The comparison table on your website is just awesome. Thanks. It saves me time. 😻 I would love to also see two more rows for comparing features like: 1. Auto-linking concepts (or suggesting links at least), 2. AI integration

    Thanks. Great review. I would love to see a comparison between Affine and Heptabase. They are very similar tools, but they seem to outperform each other in various areas. I wish I could just combine the two and have one app that really does it all. Particularly, Affine’s workflow efficiency, visuals, and inline databases with Heptabase’s block referencing ability, meta-tagging, and whiteboard workflows.

    Somedays I might do one. Heptabase is an app I really like. I like it so much that I pay for the subscription even if I don’t use it that much so to support them.

    The editing is great bro. Thought you got an editor haha. I've been looking for a Collections feature for Obsidian, so it's nice to see Affine prioritise that. And the white board functionality looks much nicer to use than Obsidian's. Thanks for the vid!

    Don't really care about all these other features in note taking apps. What i only care about is: Data searchability. When i want to get back to an idea i had a few months ago, and all i have are keywords on my mind to find it? e.g. tags How fast can we find it? How many click do i have to do to get to it? The most ideal is of course 1-click only.

    Update. Just tried Affine because of you vid. AFFiNE can't do jack shit! forget searching in this app. AFFiNE is TOTALLY USELESS right now as a note taking app. This was addressed in Github of May 2023 and it wasn't looked into ever since! Fuck this shit. Another dead end project. Can't do a simple searching of tags. Future my ass.

    Yes, you are right. When looking at the Affine from level of sophistication. It is definitely not there yet. That's the most reliable app to me now is still Obsidian. In term of tag search, unfortunately they didn't implement this and that's just a overlook in UIUX. But I am pretty sure they can do it because the functionality exist in the collection where you can filter all notes with some rules. I believe they just need to put it into the command K. In term of searchability, this issue is related to maintainability issue. If your vault scale, it is inevitable that things will be more difficult to search. I have the same problem in Obsidian. The best solution that I can think of is creating an information funnel to categorize importance of different information. If that is still not enough, maybe AI can help. if you haven't see my video about knowledge management, see my video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/rKCTqtZtZq6pnqw.html&ab_channel=YomaruHananoshika

    @@yomaru_1999 I'm a current obsidian user, as it is reliable and so on. However, I can really see Affine shines just from the video introduction. Would you change your workflow as Affine comes by? And another confusing part in Affine is the database, I don't quite understand the only record and no reference thought, is it still developing or the developer decides it to be so and not change it. It brings a huge difference in the future of this function of Affine, and how to use it. As now, for me that needs only very limited collaborative functionality, Affine seems to be enough, but the database makes its functionality less. Curious to see how would you use these functions in your workflow, I mean integrating them into a full 'thing'.

    @@yomaru_1999 Thanks for the collections idea! Yeah, this sucks. So for anyone reading this, the workaround in version 0.11.3 is: The setup: - Create a new `Collections`, i called it "everything" - `Edit Collection` - Under `Rules`, click `+`, choose `Tags` - click `is not empty`, a dropdown should appear, choose `contains one of` - click `Save` How to search via tags - Click your `Collection`, mine is "everything" - Scroll through the window and Click a page with the tag you're looking for - Click the tags section of the page - Click the actual specific tag you were looking for. - Now, finally, all pages with that specific tag will show up - Also, now, your filter changes into `contains all` - If you wanna re-search via tags, just keep refining that filter at the upper left corner of the window. OMFG. Searching via tags sucks SO MUCH in AFFiNE. What are they even thinking?!??? The implementation of tags is so clunky, too. The best implementation of tag creation and searching of all these note taking apps so far is Mem.ai Sucks balls that it is as well because Mem.ai seems to be a dead project. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuk. AFFiNE would have been perfect if not for this one deal-breaking feature.

    As nice as it seems, and while local is good for speed and portability, a database is still too obscure and fragile of a format, I'll stick with Obsidian, or any tool, because I WANT to. Not because I am locked into a proprietary data format that only lets me export or manipulate it through API calls. Any tool that lets me just open a copy of my obsidian vault as plain text markdown and does so non-destructively, I'd be willing to give it a try, but anything else is a non-starter for me, now.

    There is such a thing known as an open database format just fyi. Sqlite being one of them. Just the way that you access your data is different, but it is way more suited for the purpose than files ever will be.

  • @kribbage

    @kribbage

    6 ай бұрын

    @@xeno._yt It is more suited, but unnecessary, modeling the data schema on top of plain text is more than adequate for a single user on a local machine. And you have immediate total access to those files without needing to have an exposed api or some kind of pre-exported file.

  • @xeno._yt

    @xeno._yt

    @@kribbage There is no added value in having direct access to your notes as files. In day-to-day operations you will access your notes through your note-taking-software, and for programmatic access it is better to use an API so that you don't have to write logic for manipulating notes twice. I think you are asserting value to the file based storage because that is what you're used to and not because it is the best option for the use-case. Do you actually do that thing where you open your notes in anything else than just Obsidian itself?

    I love the concept of Affine. I understand it's relatively new, but what irritates me, they call this the best "knowledge management " app, but you can't upload pdfs?? And open them to annotate etc Posting a link, will just be a card, can't embed. etc. They seem to be "busy" implementing features that aren't as important as getting the basic KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT features right first. Frustrating AF
