In Africa, the competitive gap is closer and that's one reason, added to many other reasons (good and bad) why the Afcon is the most exciting continental tournament in the world bar none

I'm from Italy, and we have seen what "small" teams like Switzerland or Sweden can do to us, or just look how scary Austria or Scotland could be to face. I mean, you are right about the fact that CAF is extremely difficult to predict, but european football is still one of the most complete one. I can name 20 countries that could have an important run in a WC, more or less like 10 african countries that could do very well in a WC. Btw, I'm cheering for Mali this year ❤

As a Moroccan it seems to me we always struggle at the AFCON so I'll say we are not the favorites.

It's kind of our MO, the Egyptian national team never performs well in the qualifiers and friendlies and they don't inspire confidence before the tournament actually starts. So for neutral (non africans) observers, it's understandable to disregard our odds.

The fact that a team in the last 9 AFCONs, won three and reached the final in two more times and isn't considered a contender is laughable. I had the same conversation with a Nigerian two years ago, he laughed when I told him Egypt will finish the tournament in a better spot than Nigeria even after Nigeria already beat Egypt in the first group game and I was correct, Egypt went to the final, Nigeria got knocked out in the round of 16. Just because a bunch of teams has some names, doesn't make them a functioning unit and that's always the problem for a lot of African teams.

How's Egypt not in the Top 5 blows my mind. I'm Algerian, but when it comes to AFCON, Egypt is a must watch beast that can always make it to the finals

Ghana have the players, especially offensively with partey(whos out), jordan ayew, semenyo, and i think our 2 best players inaki williams and kudus. Even defensively we have decent players like lamptey and salisu. Our issue is that Hughes' tactics are terrible, and i think many of our players haven't built up enough synergy yet, especially with newer additions like Williams. If the team can gel together, we definietly have an Afcon winning squad, but we've seen from the loss to Comoros and lucky win against Madagascar, that that is yet to happen.

Every AFCON pundits keep underestimating Egypt, and then act surprised when we reach the final. Always disrespecting us despite being the record time Champions and reaching the finals in two of the last three editions. In 2023, Egypt eliminated Cote d'Ivoire, Morocco & Cameroon and barely lost to Senegal on pens. Somehow that is not enough and we are not even in the top ten teams to win it? Shows how clueless some of these pundits and bookies are, nevermind that we have the best player in the PL playing in our side along with some good players in the side like Mostafa Mohamed of Nantes, Omar Marmoush of Eintracht and Trezeguet of Trabazonspor.

Hosting AFCON in JAN-FEB is compatible with the seasons/weather in some of the African regions. In the Summer it's our rainy season and the rains can be very heavy and interrupt a lot of things.

As long as any former Portuguese colony wins, I'm happy. As a Portuguese national born in Angola, Angola is my favourite. But I hope that one of the crew composed by Angola, Mozambique, Cabo Verde or Guinea Bissau wins.

Hate to spoil your show but ignoring Egypt from this list is beyond absurd the team that reached final twice out of the past 3 AFCON who happen to now have a much improved team is quiet an insult .. Also you need to amend the black horse label you put on Egypt for Egypt are the most successful African country in the history of the tournament and labeling them black horse is equivalent to labeling the likes of France and Argentina black horses...

As Moroccan I don't understand why they didn't put Egypt in the odds to win the AFCON . Their legacy in this tournement is so huge that you can't put them away from the favorite teams to win it .

Ghana have the players, especially offensively with partey(whos out), jordan ayew, semenyo, and i think our 2 best players inaki williams and kudus. Even defensively we have decent players like lamptey and salisu. Our issue is that Hughes' tactics are terrible, and i think many of our players haven't built up enough synergy yet, especially with newer additions like Williams. If the team can gel together, we definitely have an Afcon winning squad, but we've seen from the loss to Comoros and lucky win against Madagascar, that that is yet to happen.

I think you are delusional to not include Egypt, Cameroon or Zambia in that list. The Pharoahs and the indomitable Lions are the most successful in the continent. Chipolopolos are the strongest in the SADC zone. You must play the African way to win the AFCON not the European way like what the Moroccans are doing.

If I were a betting man (which I'm not ) I'd say Nigeria and Algeria have good chances.
