The new Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries DLC "The Dragon's Gambit" has arrived. Let's take a look at all the gameplay aspects, story, new Mechs and weapon systems together. In this playthrough we will start a new career as a Mechwarrior thrown int o a conflict against our will.

The gameplay of Mechwarrior 5 is split in two different parts. On the one hand you will have to manage your resources, hire new crew members, outfit your Mechs and travel through the Inner Sphere star map. But the action starts as soon as you get into the cockpit of your Battlemech yourself to fulfill contracts on the battlefield to earn more C-Bills and progress the story. I will review the weapon systems, battlemechs, show you how to build the loadouts and train your pilots and take a look at all the different mission types and upgrades of the MW5 Heroes of the Inner Sphere DLC.

    Started playing with the same mods as Bara because of his vids, and the chainguns are the BOMB. Just doing the original campaign because I never finished it, loaded a CG-10/R in the starting Centurion's arm, then 2 flamers and 2 srm-4s. Thing melts tanks and turrets, I RP a USNavy CWIS when VTOLs come within 800m, and I've taken out so many bigger mechs by just spraying around their head and killing the pilot. Then I got a Centurion variant with 3 ballistic slots on the arm... 3x tier 3 CG-30/Rs... I call it the sandblaster, though it's a bit more like one of those water pressure saws.

    @derrichtigearzt8932 definitely op. I still take hits from aircraft with ac2s, but as soon as they get to 6-700m from me I wipe out whole flights. Dps is way high for the weight of the weapons, ammo goes fast on longer missions, but I'd rather carry a couple extra tons of ammo than a couple med lasers. I have a mauler with 4 cg20rs, and my Firestarter with 2 rapid chain guns still comes on drops and competes. They don't make everything a cakewalk 100%, I've still run into missions where I lost/had my mechs blown to pieces, but they're definitely better than any autocannon imo. The only other ballistics I've been using are gauss/heavy rifles on a heavy sniper build, for the range and the alpha damage.

    @@HonestAlthalus would recommend the normal Chain-Guns. the Rs are fast firing but have less damage per shot. And the balance is the spread over distance. But they are just so strong i use them through my entire career for my AI pilots and they shred everything with those. its just fun because they are cheap light of weight and you almost need just 1 bin of ammo for every mission. Just a low cost heavy duty working gun :) Also if you slap 3 ChainGun 10s on a centurion its can shredding and atlas in secounds.

    @@Vision1100 I used them for a bit on a mech early on when I was trying both out, and I just like the Rs better... You're probably right that regulars are more efficient than the rapids though.

We saw good judgment in leaving a fight that you didn't need to take on, bad judgment in running out of money buying weapon systems you're not currently using and good judgment again in going for the pilot before taking on the Solaris League. Also, after you proclaimed that you don't really run the Hollander anymore, you required it for the next two missions.

    Medium Claws will fit a medium mech with the 'melee mech' or 'melee specialization' quirk. A yellow hand slot will accept only a 1 slot fist or knuckle weapon. Chainsaw's Vindicator-1P is perfect opportunity.

    Good status update there Finley! If you are using both the YAML and Clan mods you will end up with the same weapons and ammo from different mods. Beware of trying to upgrade them since they are not consistent.

    The medium ASF also fires unguided rockets, they aren't listed in it's weapons loadout but they do AOE damage and are very good against tank swarms. Not quite as good as the AAMs against VTOL swarms but still nice. And any (R) mech that's from clan invasion can have royal heat sinks, they don't all have them but many do. ASF you can only use one per mission, and if you tell it to retreat you can't call in another. It's risky to use them in endgame missions because if one gets shot down it's gone for good, but the upside is you can collect multiples of each type so you have spares. As you've seen the Multirole is good against tanks. Interceptor deletes air targets. 60 VTOL wave? No problem, wait about 10 seconds and they are gone. Combat Leopard? It will tie that up and keep it off your back while avoiding about 90% of return fire. Striker works best against mechs but is good against tanks too, just don't expect it to do much of anything to flying targets.

    One Aerospace fighter per mission only. Also for future aerospace fighter missions, just go over tonnage if you can. Survive to get the fighter, forget the salvage you can get mechs other missions. If anyone can also tell me what signifies what upgrade is activity on the fighters would be grateful. Is it green or grey, showing which one you chose? Also: Baradul "Need to save ammunition", fires barrage at Panther, fires into cliff side, fires into trees.... love it.

    Grey is for available upgrades but not active in the ASF, green is for active upgrade on the ASF (we can only have max 2 active upgrades, it seems)

    For upgrades, if the item shows white then it is an option - you have gathered the upgrade from a salvage mission. If it is red then you have not yet found that upgrade. You can only chose 2 upgrades from either line or the same one. BEST PRACTICE: do not launch your ASF until you know how you are going to use it. I have all three so I wait a bit into the mission to decide which one to deploy. The Striker I use most though. The light fighter is great for decimating aerial hordes but can be easily shot down by Expert assassins. For those guys, I launch the Striker and use it to distract the enemy mechs while I massacre them. It's cool to watch the AI trying to figure out who to attack - the ASF or me. The multi-role I use carefully but not when facing Experts Assaults. I have lost 2 already. Still have 5 left. :D

    Honestly, those Parti-Kill PPCs on the last jump are ridiculous, especially with a fast cooldown. The Panther Katana Kat is amazing with 2 of those.

    I havent been using the mods like weapon emporium and clan invasion because I want my game to be balanced, but it is very interesting to see it in actual gameplay. Thanks for another great episode!

    You can only use one per drop. So if you have all three, once you pick one that is the only one you get that drop. Also, if it retreats due to damage, you cannot call in another one. Also, if you call one while at full speed, it drops your speed to the corresponding number pressed (7, 8, or 9). You have to release W and then press forward again to resume full speed.

    Battle Tech needs to flat out make an aerospace fighter game. Anyway, maybe you need to set the fighter to be more cautious.

    What you want for those gatlings is a mauler ... 3 ballistic hardpoints on each torso, put in a turret mount modification and just rip through anything that shows its head.

    Its also worth pointing out that ASFs draw much of enemy's attention and this can be both good and bad depending on situation. Its good when you face a lot of enemy armor - you can shoot them one by one while they try to kill ASF. It is bad, though, when you defend a position from enemy waves because the enemies start shooting ASF and they dont actually come to you, so you will have to go and hunt them on the edges of the map

    your numpad buttons are defaulted to preset mech speeds. without rebinding them the ASF commands and comms from the mods will set your speed, can make you stuck.

    When it stops moving try to jump up a bit. That usually unfreezes it. Yes, it happens to me too.

    Be careful spamming Chainguns, I found out the hard way they only deal half damage to armor.

    You'd probably get more value with the pirate lrm ammo 1200 rounds per bin for the same weight as double bins as well as same size. Might be late. I've been playing yaml series and most my double LRM bin have been replaced with pirate ammo.

    Grenade Launcher is for buildings, not mechs I reckon. Base destruction would probably be on easy mode with them.

    Fun fact in mwo the highlander heavy metal has 70 jump jet messing it can jump from the ground onto the wall on hpg manifold. Pretty much insane

    You cannot stack fighters, you can send 1 per mission. I tend to prefer the one that concentrates on ground striking vs anti air.

    I love this playthough. You are starting to get further in the timeline lore, so you are starting to see cooler stuff. Clans should come after 3050.

    that depends on the class of the ASF has a target preference. interceptor more against Airunits. Multi-Role priority ground units ect.

    @@MisterNi and Sometimes the ASF is to powerfull. If you Set them one aggressiv they wipe out the entire map before you even arrive in the mission nav point... But they also bombing buildings in destruction mission with ASF missles nice AoE dmg. I set Mine on cover and artillery hunt. Works finebso far. ASF stay around my lance and only Slips away If it gets attacked.

Well that's not actually inaccurate as even in older BattleTech, Aerospace Fighters completely broke game balance if only one or only a few factions had them, which necessitated that every Great House have ASFs or else suffer the consequences of your opponent having unopposed air power. So I'd say the Coyote Mission Mod made the ASFs lore accurate as to their place and danger on the battlefield. 🙂

    @@MisterNi what i can say so far is that set it to cover instead of agressiv make its a bit better balanced ( cover and arty hunting for me - works like a charm ). it didnt roam the entire battle grid anymore and destroy objective you didnt trigger yet. so its nice. also stolen a 2nd multi role by now but i only can use one per mission. so that could mean if you dont retreat it it could be totally destroyed and maybe be lost after total destruction.

    If you stumble across the light naval ppc I’d recommend grabbing it and slapping it in a decent or good 100ton mech as while it’s kinda got a slow rate of fire it will delete mechs in a couple of shots if you’re wearing them down with some side weapons 😂 I slapped one in a Warhawk with side weapons being two clan pulse lasers and I believe and clan srm 6 and it could brawl with the best of them and delete heads even when I wasn’t trying 😂😂😂😅 oh and as a side note as I’m not gonna scroll through the comments to see if anyone else said anything about the ASF but you can only use one per battle period so even if you have more than one of the three fighters you have to pick and choose which one you want to use in the battle and the coyote mod at the bottom will tell you what each roll the fighters have and what they’ll do

    The chargers are cheap to get and the 400 engine is worth quite some cash (if you get it). Also you seem to get the same audio bug I encountered, where you constantly hear a distant whooshing at like the second half of the video. Had that so many times in my game. Iirc it even persisted in the main menu, so you have to restart the game to get rid of it.

    If I am not mistaken so the ASF is not permanent. If U lose it so U have to find another. Unless Coyote changed it.

    I am confused as to what is giving that Orion the "no minimum range for LRM's" Quirk...I have the same mech and think I am using the same mods but my mech does not have those same hero quirks.

    @Baradul I installed your mod list, and been playing for a few days. Did my first infiltration mission, and no matter how far I am in the objectives, as soon as I pick up one of the mission crates, the mission ends, without me having to run to an evac zone... is this a bug you've encountered?

    So a single half ton of CG ammo is enough to kill upwards of an entire mission itself especially running 4x 20r,

    . Hello! It's me again with my problems((( Sorry. I have invulnerable turrets in my missions. They have 0 health and damage does not go through at all. I searched in the settings, but found nothing. Google didn’t help me either. I don’t know where to turn.

    Fighters don't stack. I have 2 multi role ones and can on;y deploy 1. I don't know if you can deploy 1 of each type because I haven't found them yet. but they are expensive to run. and your rep coverage doesn't cover them.

    It blows me away how many Cbills you blow in markets where you are paying huge premiums because the people there hate you. If you need to do shopping it is a much better idea to bounce around areas where you have built up your reputation much better or to save your money till you get back to one again. You would avoid constantly running out of cash that way.

    Wait, wait, wait, WAIT! PLEASE tell me you did NOT equip the Yad al-Jauza with ONLY LRM's! I don't care if its LRM quirk DOES allow you to fire them at point-blank range. They're still LRM's, which means they do less damage the closer the enemy is to you. If you were going to do anything, it should've been LRM's in the "shoulder," either SRM's or ATM's in the "underarm," & either ASRM's or SLRM's in the right "hand." That way, you'd have full coverage at any distance, & the ASRM/SLRM would be useful for anti-air - even directly above you, since it would be in the "hand." (Streak-LRM's being direct-fire weapons incapable of firing over terrain, but still having the ability to go VERY far.)
