Aerophone Mini (AE-01) Teardown

Музыка

I disassembled the Aerophone Mini (AE-01) to see what kinds of circuits it has.
There appears to be enough room in there to add a 5-pin MIDI connector and perhaps some way to do pitch bend for the midi output. Also, I'm going to see if there is any way to quiet down the buttons.
Let me know in the comments below if there is anything else you'd like to know the circuitry of the AE-01.

I wish it had more keys and a bite sensor - then this device could become the perfect platform for experiments with Arduino :) Otherwise I'm not sure if it's worth bothering. I really want a small device with at least 16 keys and a few customizable MIDI command buttons, and solid breath + bite sensing. Think NuRAD but a bit smaller and cheaper. Meanwhile, I have AE-05 but it has some annoyances - the keys feel a bit too "sticky" when releasing, which confuses my brain causing some latency when I try to rapidly switch between notes, and there are only 10 customizable fingering slots, which limits the potential of the device to be used for keyswitching approach - to use really low notes for controlling software synths.

I totally understand what you're saying about the ae05. I bought it specifically to make some modifications to it. Then I broke it--oops! I'm not a big fan of the key clack and it definitely needs a bite sensor , plus the fingering extensions for aerophes is a bit lacking. I think it is worth learning the EVI fingering system. Then get a NuEVI, it's the smallest of the bunch and you don't need a strap. :)
