The municipality has a land area of 52.84 square kilometers or 20.40 square miles which constitutes 3.52% of La Union's total area. Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 66,028. This represented 8.03% of the total population of La Union province, or 1.25% of the overall population of the Ilocos Region. Based on these figures, the population density is computed at 1,250 inhabitants per square kilometer or 3,237 inhabitants per square mile.
